Alexandre Lacazette was a strong contender for Arsenal’s Man of the Match award against Crystal Palace on Monday night despite only being on the pitch for less than half an hour. When Mikel Arteta was asked if the club can now afford to lose Lacazette following his superb cameo in the second half against Palace,
Mikel Arteta said: “Well, we have him. He’s our player and he shows real commitment so I’m not thinking about that. I’m thinking about how to get the best out of him and tonight he showed a real good moment and how much he cares about the team.”
Unfortunately, Lacazette has been less vocal on his current predicament, but he’s always insisted that he’s focused on doing well for the Gunners. Ahead of Arsenal’s successful FA Cup victory in 2020, Lacazette was asked whether he or Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had spoken about agreeing fresh terms with the club.
Alexandre Lacazette said: “No, we didn’t talk about this. Me, I’m just playing my games and finishing the season to see how it’s going to be but we didn’t talk about anything.”
He then continued by answering whether he’d even entered talks over a new contract at the time.
Alexandre Lacazette said: “No, because we know that Auba [Aubameyang] has a lot of discussions with the club and I can’t put my future on someone else.”
Arsenal’s captain of course went on to extend his deal at the Emirates Stadium, but the future looks different for his teammate and well-known friend, Lacazette. Nevertheless, his performance on Monday showed that Arsenal might as well try to get the best out of him until he does decide to leave.
