Nottingham Forest will be closely monitoring the condition of defender Murillo after he was forced off the pitch during their 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. Murillo, who played a crucial role by scoring the equalizer shortly after Crystal Palace took the lead through an Eberechi Eze penalty, appeared to suffer a hamstring injury with less than ten minutes remaining in the match. The injury adds to Forest’s concerns as they were already missing winger Callum Hudson-Odoi, who is also sidelined with a hamstring problem. Despite these setbacks, Forest secured a vital point in their pursuit of Champions League qualification.
Nuno Espirito Santo said: “Let’s assess him. I don’t know exactly what he has done. Hopefully it is nothing. He is a big, big important player for us. Let’s be honest, I think he wanted to touch the ball not put it in (for his goal). But it went in. So many times goals go in like bouncing balls and deflections. He scored with a header before.”
Nuno continued: “It was positive in terms of improvement of performance from last week. Defensively we were much better. It is not easy to control Palace because they have such talented players and they create problems. First half, we were in control and were dominant and had good possession. Second half was different. The positive of the second half is that we reacted very soon after the goal. That is very, very good because it shows character and belief. After that, it was very intense. A lot of second-ball fights, yellow cards and chances. I’m proud that we have been able to improve. We are going to need a lot of character and a lot of belief. We are pushing the players, not only physically but mentally in this big fight we are involved in – and we are proud to be in it. Character, confidence, controlling the nerves, all these aspects are very important.”
Forest’s draw against Crystal Palace leaves them sixth in the Premier League table, just two points behind Chelsea. With three games remaining, including a crucial final day clash against Chelsea at the City Ground, Forest remains in contention for a top-four finish. The performance against Palace was marked by a strong defensive display, particularly in the first half, which saw Forest dominate possession. The second half was more challenging, but the team’s quick response to Palace’s goal demonstrated resilience and determination.
The potential loss of Murillo could be significant for Forest as they enter the final stretch of the season. His contributions, both defensively and offensively, have been vital. As they prepare for the remaining fixtures, Forest will need to rely on their depth and mental fortitude to maintain their push for European football.
