Steve Bruce has been facing reporters ahead of this Friday’s home match against fellow strugglers Leeds. With Newcastle still to record a win so far this Premier League season, Bruce is under pressure and admitted that he wished he had “a better squad”, but said it was “not possible”.
Steve Bruce said: “There is the frustration for everybody concerned and I’m the same. Do you not think I want better players? Do you not think I want a better squad to choose from and to have the ability to go out and compete at the top end of the transfer market? It’s not possible so I have to accept it. I’ve said now since I walked through the door two years ago, I’m not going to be everyone’s cup of tea but I will, with my experience, hope to keep the club just ticking along and make sure that the club stays where it is and we maintain our Premier League status.”
