Nuno Espirito Santo will have already discovered in his first two weeks at Tottenham that he has a potential superstar on his hands. Getting to know his new players on the training pitch at their Enfield base over the past two weeks, the 47-year-old has called upon a number of Spurs’ talented academy stars to also be part of his sessions. With a host of the aforementioned players training with the first team at times during Jose Mourinho’s tenure, the former boss waxed lyrical about one of the youngsters earlier this week when discussing the incredible talent Gareth Southgate has at his hands following England’s run to the Euro 2020 final.
Jose Mourinho said: “I know he’s still very young, just 17, and it is probably too early for the next World Cup, but Tottenham Hotspur have a striker in Dane Scarlett, who, if everything goes well, is going to be phenomenal. For England, there is lots of promise.”
High praise indeed for the 17-year-old, and it’s not the first time Mourinho has hailed the young hotshot after he labelled him a “diamond” after his appearance for Tottenham in the Europa League against Wolfsberger AC back in February. Only going to get even better as he has the ideal man in Kane to help perfect his craft day in, day out on the training pitch, Scarlett is already making Espirito Santo and Tottenham’s experienced players stand up and take notice. Speaking to football.london in an exclusive interview, Japhet Tanganga opened up on what it’s like to come up against the youngster, as well as backing up Mourinho’s big claim that the player is “phenomenal” and will go all the way to the top.
Japhet Tanganga said: “He’s a great prospect, honestly. I think he’s not the only one but for his age, everyone’s a bit surprised at how talented he is. Honestly, he is phenomenal and everything that the old gaffer said is true. If everything goes well and he keeps working hard and remains focused and grounded then he will go to the top, because he’s a phenomenal player and I think all the players around him know that and are going to try to help him. The new boss, I think he knows that as well, you can see it from the glimpses of training that he’s a talent and he just needs the help to get him in the right direction. He’s a great prospect.”
Espirito Santo and Tottenham have a star on their hands and it could be in 2021/22 when the rest of the Premier League realises just how good Scarlett is going to be.
