Nuno Espirito Santo believes Wolves’ attitude in their victory over Leeds United warranted the slice of luck that eventually gave them a 1-0 win on Friday evening.
Nuno Espirito Santo said: “Very pleased, especially with the attitude. It’s very difficult to play and compete against Leeds. Sometimes, you have to go in the same way – chasing duels and pressing. The boys did really well in that aspect of the game. They were very aggressive and trying to recover the ball high, so I’m pleased with the overall performance. It’s something we’ve been chasing, realising we’re not in our best, highest standards – what we want and expect from the players. But we’re trying to improve them day by day, and they gave us a good answer. Of course, the game was not perfect. From set-pieces, we allowed too many first contacts, but Leeds are very difficult. Both goalkeepers were active and we watched a very good game of football. There’s luck, but the strike of Adama is fantastic. Where the ball went, in the upper corner, it was almost unstoppable. So, I think we have to deserve that luck. The action from Adama was fantastic. The momentum of his movement is amazing.”
Nuno, a former goalkeeper himself, also paid tribute to Meslier and Patricio’s performances in the match.
Nuno Espirito Santo said: “When you watch a game and see too many good actions of the goalkeeper, it tells you the game was open and there were chances for both teams. Leeds created enormous problems and clear chances. Our keeper did well, but Meslier also did fantastic saves. I’m pleased, but there are details we want to correct as well.”
