Aaron Cresswell has six assist this season (nine if you play Fantasy Premier League), and no defender has more than the West Ham left-back / centre-back. David Moyes made an interesting point after the game about Cresswell’s numbers:
David Moyes said: “In a strange way when Aaron Cresswell plays as a left-sided centre-back in a three his assist numbers go up much more. We gave him a lot of stick last season so to see his improvement and quality [is pleasing], his deliveries have been very good from set-pieces so that is good to see.”
Whether it is the change in position or the stick Cresswell got from Moyes and the coaching staff, whatever it is they need to keep doing it. Issa Diop also had a hard task replacing Angelo Ogbonna in the West Ham team, a man Moyes described as ‘magnificent’ in the build-up to the Sheffield United game. The defender’s performance brought praise from his manager after the match:
David Moyes said: “I think it was a big night for Issa, I think he started a little bit ropey but as it went on he got better and grew into the game.”
