Bruno Fernandes has revealed he made a promise to Manchester United fans that he would celebrate every single goal as if he were playing in a stadium full of supporters. The Portuguese midfielder has transformed United in his first year at the club but has only played in front of a packed Old Trafford four times in that period. Fernandes has netted 30 goals and notched 20 assists in his 56 appearances for the club so far, however, most of them have been registered in empty stadiums as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. The 26-year-old can’t wait to hear the roar of a crowd behind him once again, but in the meantime, he is aiming to repay fans by passionately celebrating every goal he scores for the club.
Bruno Fernandez said: “When you score you want to celebrate. Some players when they score they don’t have that feeling to celebrate because there is nobody there and we have to make our own way to celebrate and make the atmosphere happy when we score as if the fans were there. One of the things the fans told me when we started to play behind closed doors is that when we score you need to celebrate like we are there with you. I’m trying to do that, sometimes it’s difficult because you are not in the mood and maybe you don’t feel it, but I’m trying to do it like they are there or if they are at home then they are feeling that I’m happy and I am with them.”
