Man City manager Pep Guardiola admits his side have ‘one eye’ on the FA Cup quarter-final against Newcastle United – which the Catalan declared is a ‘final for us’. City’s game against Chelsea is one of three fixtures Guardiola’s side have to prepare for in the next week and following Sunday’s visit to St James’ Park, the Citizens host Liverpool four days later. Guardiola has had to plan for that period without top scorer Sergio Aguero, who underwent surgery on his knee in Barcelona on Wednesday after limping off in the 5-0 win against Burnley earlier this week.
Pep Guardiola said “We cannot deny that we have one eye on the Newcastle game, Chelsea and Liverpool are prestigious and important games, but our game against Newcastle is a final for us. We have one eye on this situation so the team selection depends on the physical condition and the minutes they played the day before and the minutes they are going to play. We’ll take a look a little bit at what’s going to happen – not just the game against Chelsea.”
