Steve Harper has paid tribute to the Newcastle United squad after they returned to training two weeks ago in fantastic shape – despite two months of no group training. The first team coach may have had concerns over how United players would return to Benton after unprecedented scenes caused by the coronavirus pandemic. However, with players unable to jet out to any illustrious tourist spots and forced to stay at home, the squad trained at their homes and went for runs in nearby areas.
Steve Harper said: “The players have not been able to go off and let off a bit of steam like Vegas. They have been on lockdown like the rest of us. Credit to the medical staff we have here they have come back chomping at the bit. It was interesting on Thursday morning when full contact came back, there was a real buzz around the place. The excitement for getting back was fantastic. The lads have been great since we got back to be fair to them. Credit to the lads they are all in good shape.”
