Bruno Lage will take inspiration from legendary Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson to oversee Wolverhampton Wanderers’ transfer rebuild this summer.
Bruno Lage said: “I remember maybe 10 years ago, when I read Sir Alex Ferguson’s book, he said something like that. ‘I love my players as sons, but when they drop their performance I am the first guy to go there, shake their hands, it’s time to move, and we need to replace him to continue.’ I want that pressure. When the players are there you give him respect and pay the salary, so when they don’t give the same things you need to find solutions. That’s why he was in that position for 20 years and he won titles every time. He did that with a lot of players. It’s so clear that we need to understand that. That’s one thing, and the other thing is to replace top players. Maybe Man United don’t lose players because it’s hard for other teams to come and buy players from Man United, but for us it can be easy. Before we lost Jota and maybe it can happen with one player or two and we need to replace them in the best way. Sometimes it’s not just player for player. Sometimes we can lose one and buy two and we are more balanced as a team.”
