Pep Guardiola has outlined that his Manchester City side will not feel ‘nervous’, despite Steven Gerrard warning the City boss that his side were under ‘pressure’. Aston Villa will travel to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday (4pm kick-off) for the last game of the 2021/22 Premier League season which could play a major role in the title race, as Liverpool sit in second place and just one point behind City. Speaking ahead of the fixture
Steven Gerrard said: “There’s a lot of pressure on the opposition and we need to try and use that if we can. But it’s about us and as you say when there’s three points to fight for, I want to prepare the team in the best way I can and I want to go and make the supporters proud with a 90 minute performance.”
Guardiola addressed talk of pressure ahead of the fixture in his press conference, where he said: “If you think about it being one more title, it’s a football game.
Steven Gerrard said: “Ings and Watkins, how we face this process, Luiz as a holding midfielder, Digne moving inside or outside, this is what we think about. I’m sure our people will be as one. I have a feeling our supporters will be incredible. As a club we haven’t been here many times. Anxious, nervous? No way. If we concede or struggle, come on, try again, continue and do it. It’s the best way to approach this kind of situation. Not ‘what happens if we lose?’ What is the movement and set pieces of Villa? This is the only way, all that matters.”
