Coffee shop and drive-through “The Coffee Can” opened opposite the new Leicester City Football Club training ground only weeks before businesses were forced to close under the lockdown rules. Owner Rupert Carroll, from Thrussington, has since set up a new subscription service called 5000-1 for his “unique” coffees with a Leicester City theme.
Owner Rupert Carroll said “I wanted to be able to do something to help people and thought this was a great fund to start with.I had always had the idea to include a charity element to the business and now more than ever is a critical time to do something like this. As a coffee lover and Leicester City fan, the name 5000-1 is a nod to the football team beating the bookies to lift the Premier League in 2016. That ‘one’ means something and in terms of what we are trying to do with the charity element of our business, it shows something small can go a long way to change someone’s life. It can be hard to find good quality coffee but this subscription service will now allow people to have great coffee delivered to their homes. Good coffee is about feeling good and spending quality time with people which is so important right now. And I also wanted this to be something meaningful to local people”
Still in its early stages, 5000-1 coffee is currently offering two, themed coffees – The Matchday blend and End of Season, with a further 12 flavours in the pipeline. As well as being a dedicated Leicester City Football Club fan, Rupert shares a passion for coffee. Going forward, Rupert aims to continue working with Leicestershire charities and spreading positivity to the local community.
