Hayao Kawabe hopes to become the dynamic, box-to-box midfielder Wolverhampton Wanderers have been missing. Japan international Kawabe, 25, joined Wolves for £500,000 from Grasshoppers on Wednesday to become the club’s first January addition. When asked to describe his playing style,

Hayao Kawabe said: “I play box-to-box, I shoot and assist, I create assists and goals.”

Kawabe must now convince Lage that he can translate those statistics to Premier League football. If he can, there’s a vacancy for a player of his type in Wolves’ midfield.

Hayao Kawabe added: “I’ll do my best in every training and every game. I’m so excited and I want to play here soon.”
