#PremierLeagueStories – #TrentAlexanderArnold talks about feeling powerless when playing against Wolves winger #AdamaTraore #WWFC #LFC

Trent Alexander-Arnold has admitted he felt 'powerless' up against Wolverhampton Wanderers' Adama Traore last season. Traore, 24, enjoyed a wonderful 2019/20 campaign and finished it as one of the Premier League's top assist makers, with only a handful of players - including Alexander-Arnold - contributing more than the Spaniard's nine. His superb form has sparked plenty of transfer interest with virtually every top team in Europe reportedly keeping tabs on Traore, who has been offered a new contract by Wolves. Liverpool, whose manager Jurgen Klopp dubbed Traore 'unplayable', are said to be among his admirers. Traore starred in both matches, especially at Molineux in January where he set up Raul Jimenez to score with a trademark dash down the wing followed by a pinpoint delivery. And Alexander-Arnold has echoed the thoughts of his manager when it comes to Wolves' electric winger. The England right-back was piecing together his perfect footballer for Goal and, perhaps unsurprisingly, Traore is the player he's chosen to fill the speed category. "I’ve never felt so powerless against someone. “People are faster than you, that’s inevitable, but you can get yourself in good positions, give yourself a head start and get yourself in the race. But with him, and with his power as well, there’s nothing you can really do. “I remember last season when he came on at Anfield. He’s just turned and knocked it, and he was gone. I’ve never felt like that before! It has to be him, has to be.” Alexander-Arnold was speaking exclusively to Goal after being named in the 2020 Goal 50 list and the full article can be viewed HERE.
Raul Jimenez Wolves

#PremierLeagueStories – #RaulJimenez confirms Manchester United to sign him last summer #WWFC

Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Raul Jimenez has confirmed he was the subject of 'approaches' from other clubs during the summer transfer window. But the Mexico striker reaffirmed his commitment to Wolves having recently signed a new four-year contract at Molineux. Jimenez has been a revelation since joining Nuno Espirito Santo's side from Benfica two years ago and topped the magical 20-goal mark in all competitions last season. That form inevitably led to speculation over the 29-year-old's future in the summer, when he was linked with the likes of Manchester United and Juventus. Asked whether he has any regrets over staying at Wolves, he said: “Well, not really, I’m very happy at Wolverhampton, it’s never forced because I’m in a place where I’m fine, they know I’m not satisfied, I’m always looking for more. Max Kilman Wolves

#PremierLeagueStories – #MaxKilman reveals how he won #NunoEspiritoSanto’s trust to become first team player #WWFC

Max Kilman has revealed how Nuno Espirito Santo has transformed him into a Premier League defender. Kilman has started Wolves’ last four matches and helped the team pick up 10 points and three clean sheets in the process. He’s shown such class this term that it’s strange to think that just a couple of years ago Kilman was plying his trade in non-league with Maidenhead United. “I’m delighted to come in and play my part but credit to all the boys for how well they’ve been playing,” says Kilman. “With the shape we’ve had we’ve made it very difficult for teams and it’s paid off.” Video Loading Video Unavailable Click to play Tap to play The video will auto-play soon8Cancel Learning to operate in the shape Nuno prefers, which has at times this season been a hybrid of 3-4-3 and 3-5-2, has been key to Kilman’s emergence. After spending the majority of his first two seasons at Wolves watching and learning from the sidelines, the 23-year-old has fought his way into the starting XI and looks undroppable on current form. But what else has changed? What has Kilman improved in order to earn Nuno’s trust? “My game understanding and my physicality,” explains the 6ft 4in defender. “When I came in I’d never played five at the back so coming in I’ve had to adapt and understand my role as a defender. Read More Related Articles Read More Related Articles “I’ve had to become stronger and sharper and that’s what I lacked when I first came into Wolves. “I had to know when to press, when to get tight to my man, when to cover, and understanding how to cover round my wing-back and work as a five.” It’s an incredibly complex system to learn, hence why Nuno often allows new signings a lengthy period to adapt to his methods. Kilman’s task has been made easier by the support of those alongside him, especially captain Conor Coady who barks out the orders to his teammates from his position as Wolves’ deepest outfield player. He’s helped me so much along with some other players.” The likes of Coady, who has incredibly been ever-present for Wolves in their last 118 league matches, will be key to ensuring Kilman maintains the high standards he’s set at the start of this season. Kilman added: “Nuno and the whole staff don't just say ‘It’s good enough’, there’s always room for improvement and they’re always trying to find ways to make us that little bit better.”
jacob Murphy

#PremierLeagueStories – #JacobMurphy reveals that his goal against Wolves was down to research about #RuiPatricio #NUFC

Jacob Murphy has claimed his late equaliser against Wolverhampton Wanderers was all down to his research on Rui Patricio. Murphy netted an 89th minute free-kick at Molineux to earn Newcastle United a point after Raul Jimenez had opened the scoring in spectacular fashion. Wolves weren't particularly pleased with the award of the free-kick but Nuno Espirito Santo was furious with the way his players set up the defensive wall. “If it goes over the wall then we have to deal with that, but it cannot go that side of the goal,” said Nuno. “We made a mistake with the set-up of the wall and we conceded.” Video Loading Video Unavailable Click to play Tap to play The video will auto-play soon8Cancel Replays showed Patricio and Leander Dendoncker, who the ball crept past on the left side of the wall, were still in discussions over its positioning moments before Murphy struck. But Murphy paid little attention to Wolves' wall in his post-match interview and suggested that his particular choice of free-kick exposed a weak point of Patricio. The winger said: “I saw the way their wall was set up and the way their goalie was positioned and last night I did bit of research on their goalie and I knew anything low and hard in the corners would have half a chance. With that gap I just though 'I'll hit that' and luckily it went in." Wolves are currently eighth in the Premier League with 10 points from their opening six games.
