Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has opened up about his admiration for Scotland stopper Craig Gordon ahead of tonight’s World Cup qualifier. Schmeichel says Gordon’s career journey has been a true inspiration.
Kasper Schmeichel said: “I’ve followed him all the way through his career. He was the most expensive keeper ever in the Premier League at one time. He had a couple of horrific injuries, but he came back at Celtic [where he played between 2014 and 2020] and did amazing and now he’s come back into the Scotland squad. It just shows a mentality that is quite unique. The setbacks he’s had with injuries, to keep coming back and have that kind of drive, is absolutely amazing. It’s an inspiration for any goalkeeper to see that whatever injuries you have, you can come back and make it to the top again.”
On the challenge facing the Danes at Hampden,
Kasper Schmeichel added: “We’ve obviously done our homework on them and know that they’ve been on a good run of form since that game. They’re very strong, so with them being at home, I’d say the pressure’s on them to come and beat us. We’re very confident in our own ability.”
