Newcastle United is gearing up for a significant summer transfer window, with plans to invest heavily in new talent. However, the club remains optimistic about the potential of its Academy to produce players who can save the club substantial sums in the future. Despite a decade of limited output, recent years have seen a steady flow of Academy graduates into the first team, with players like Sean Longstaff, Lewis Miley, and Elliot Anderson becoming key figures in Newcastle’s midfield. Following the takeover by PIF from Mike Ashley, there has been a concerted effort to strengthen the squad beneath the first team, with the addition of promising talents such as Kyle Fitzgerald, Alex Murphy, Garang Kuol, and Antonio Cordero.
Michael Ndiweni said: “I think he’s one of the best young talents in the Premier League, and he’s a future England player. I’ve played with his brother [Jamie], he [Lewis] is two years younger, he’s so athletic for someone who’s 18. He can move the ball quick, he can carry the ball, his passing, everything, just makes the right decisions. You know that type of player? You give him the ball, he makes the right decision, keeps things ticking.”
Ndiweni continued: “When I first joined at Under-18, Elliot Anderson, he’s now one of the midfielders of the season. Joe White is on loan in League Two, Trevan Sanusi, he’s he got bought from Birmingham, he’s there now, he’s killing it. Garang Kuol, the Australian, he played in the World Cup, he’s killing it at the moment. Sean Neave, the youngster who was on the bench in the Carabao Cup, there’s a few youngsters who are killing it at the moment.”
Michael Ndiweni, who was once part of Newcastle’s setup and now plays for Newcastle Blue Star, has witnessed the Academy’s quality firsthand. He highlighted several players who he believes have the potential to succeed, starting with Lewis Miley. Ndiweni’s insights come from his extensive experience at the Benton training ground, where he spent eight years before being released last summer. He also praised Elliot Anderson, Joe White, and three current Under-21 players—Garang Kuol, Sean Neave, and Trevan Sanusi—for their impressive performances.
As the season concludes with a home fixture against Everton, Sean Neave is expected to be on the bench again. The 17-year-old forward already boasts a Carabao Cup winners medal, having been part of the squad at Wembley against Liverpool. Although Neave has yet to make his first-team debut, Trevan Sanusi has already had a taste of first-team action, coming off the bench against Bromley in the FA Cup third round. Sanusi, currently recovering from injury, recently played for the Under-21s against Celtic.
