Aston Villa are reportedly leading the race to sign teenage sensation Zé Pequeno Redmond, with several top clubs including Tottenham, Bournemouth, and AC Milan also showing interest. The young forward, who has been making waves in the Eredivisie with Feyenoord, is attracting significant attention due to his impressive performances and potential.
Ricardo Veerman said: “What stood out was that he was younger than the other boys around him. You can tell pretty quickly if a kid has something, but he had something truly special. He could dribble past defenders with ease and scored a lot — often three times per match, sometimes even more. He was one of the key players, although that’s a funny thing to say about someone that age. Coaches around us were always asking who he was and how old he was. He wasn’t afraid of anything, and he didn’t need much instruction. What I’ll never forget is his passionate mother — she was already his biggest fan back then, always cheering from the sidelines with his younger siblings.”
John Meeder said: “With him, they immediately won their first trophy. You could see the talent shining through. He was both left- and right-footed. And he didn’t just score — he had great game sense. He started playing relatively late, actually. I heard he scored 80 in one season, including cup matches. That’s a ridiculous number.”
Brian Priske said: “He is a footballer and still young. A young boy with big dreams and expectations. He now gets the chance in the first team. He is a nice and positive boy who works hard. He can also score goals like he did in the youth. Of course we have to wait and see how he will do and how he fits into the team. He has trained with us for a few weeks now and the boys like him and have a good bond with him.”
Zé Pequeno Redmond said: “I wasn’t thinking about it at all. It’s a great opportunity for me, but it’s a shame that the team is missing so many good strikers. I think it went okay. Of course, you always want to show more, but it’s a start and I have to be satisfied with that, I think. The coach told me that this is just the beginning and that I can only make more steps. I always hope for more, but it is in my own hands.”
Redmond’s journey began in Rotterdam, where he played for Alexandria’66, CVV Zwervers, and ADO Den Haag before joining Feyenoord’s youth setup in 2019. His talent quickly caught the attention of Feyenoord, leading to his senior debut last November under former manager Brian Priske. Since then, he has made nine senior appearances and scored his first two goals in the KNVB Cup.
The young forward’s unique name, inspired by a popular South American movie character, has also gained him viral attention in Brazil. Currently under the guidance of Premier League legend Robin van Persie, Redmond has continued to develop, although he has only made one league appearance under Van Persie’s management.
Aston Villa’s interest in Redmond is a testament to their commitment to nurturing young talent, and the club is hopeful of securing the forward’s signature. With his potential and skill set, Redmond could become a valuable asset to Villa’s future endeavors.
