Burnley have appointed Paul Jenkins as Academy Director for their Category One youth set-up. Jenkins takes up the role following the departure of Jon Pepper, who spent five years at Turf Moor. The 46-year-old has worked in the club as Technical Advisor since ALK Capital’s takeover on New Year’s Eve, and has been heavily involved in the global AiSCOUT talent search. Jenkins spent 23 years working across several roles in the Middlesbrough Academy, including Head Coach of the Under-21 team. He led the Boro youngsters to a double in 2015 – winning the Premier League second division title and North Riding Senior Cup – before being promoted to first-team coach. Jenkins also spent time as assistant manager at Hartlepool United. He will now be tasked with shaping the Clarets’ Academy as part of the club’s long-term strategy, which will include working with international markets. “It is an honour to be taking on the role of Academy Director at Burnley Football Club and I look forward to working with a talented group of young players at a truly world class Academy,” Jenkins told the club’s website. “What I hope to achieve is to create a legacy of good practice for both players and staff, have a positive reputation for giving players an opportunity to maximise their potential which may take them into our first team playing in the Premier League,” he added.
