Jan Vertonghen has claimed that he has received some “serious” offers to leave Spurs this summer as he considers his options. The Belgian defender’s current deal at Tottenham is set to expire on June 30 and while he didn’t rule out staying in north London, he did seem to imply he will be pursuing his options abroad.
Jan Vertonghen said “I want to sign with the right club. It could be Spurs, or another club. I really want to continue at top level for a few more years and I would like to play European football next season. Since January, a number of clubs have come forward with serious proposals. The Spanish and Italian leagues are the most obvious for the time being, but I will keep all options open.”
The club are said to be eager to avoid a repeat of the Christian Eriksen or Jan Vertonghen situations. The former forced through a move to Inter Milan after running down his deal to just one year remaining while the latter looks likely to leave on a free transfer once his contract expires in the summer.
