Teddy Sheringham Urges Tottenham to Consider Mauricio Pochettino Return Amid Postecoglou Speculation

Teddy Sheringham, a revered figure in Tottenham Hotspur’s history, has openly suggested that the club should consider bringing back former manager Mauricio Pochettino if current boss Ange Postecoglou faces the sack. Sheringham’s comments come amid growing speculation about Postecoglou’s future at the club, especially with the team under pressure to perform in the Europa League.

In a candid discussion with CasinoHawks, Sheringham expressed his lingering confusion over Pochettino’s dismissal in 2019. He reflected on the Argentine’s tenure, particularly highlighting the period when Tottenham reached the Champions League final against Liverpool. Sheringham noted the lack of subsequent investment in the squad, which he believes was a crucial misstep.

Teddy Sheringham said, “I still don’t know why they got rid of Mauricio Pochettino in the first place. I think he was the right fit for Tottenham. I think back to the time when they played in the Champions League final against Liverpool and then after that there was no movement in the transfer market to really enhance the club. Sir Alex Ferguson always said if you stand still with the players you’ve got – you’re falling behind. So you always need to keep striving to be better. That wasn’t the case with Tottenham at that particular moment. They just didn’t look to go further. Whether that was Pochettino’s idea of not wanting to buy anyone or Daniel Levy’s that he didn’t want to spend any money on new players, who knows? But it’s definitely a time when you need to enhance the squad, when you’re doing well.”

Sheringham’s remarks underscore his belief that Pochettino could still be the ideal candidate to lead Tottenham forward. Pochettino himself has expressed a desire to return to the club, citing “unfinished business.”

However, Sheringham also conveyed his admiration for Postecoglou, acknowledging his potential to succeed if he can secure a Europa League victory this season.

Sheringham continued, “I love him. I love what he stands for. But he needs to win it. He needs to win it. He won’t deserve a statue, but it would make amends for a really tough season.”

The pressure is mounting on Postecoglou to deliver results, with the Europa League seen as a critical opportunity to stabilize his position. Meanwhile, Tottenham fans and stakeholders are keenly watching the developments, with transfer priorities and potential managerial changes looming large on the horizon.
