Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna provided crucial injury updates on key players following their recent match against Wolves. The team is dealing with multiple injuries that could impact their upcoming fixtures.
Liam, who suffered a rib injury in the last game, has been in significant pain and hasn’t trained all week. Despite the discomfort, he made an appearance on the pitch, showing his commitment to the team. Meanwhile, Philogene sustained a knee injury during a tackle with Enzo Fernandes, raising concerns about potential MCL damage. Additionally, Manchester City loanee Kalvin Phillips is facing another setback with an injury near his Achilles.
Kieran McKenna explained: “Liam had a rib injury in the last game (against Wolves), has not trained all week and been in quite a lot of pain. It would have been a crazy one to start with, and I don’t think many players would have put themselves on the pitch, but that’s Liam. I thought he was a big handful when he came on.”
McKenna continued: “On Philogene, who hurt himself when making a standing 50/50 tackle with Enzo Fernandes, it looks like a blow, no doubt. He’s opened up the inside of his knee. It’ll be scanned. It’s usually an MCL that gets some damage in that sort of tackle. I think he had one on his left side last season (and this one is on the right). We’ll be hoping that the damage isn’t too bad.”
On Man City loanee Phillips, McKenna said: “He’s got an injury somewhere near his Achilles. It’s been an unfortunate run for him after he had the cut (on his foot) that he sustained in the Nottingham Forest game. We’ll see how it goes.”
These injuries pose a challenge for Ipswich Town as they navigate the 2024-2025 season. The team will be hoping for swift recoveries to maintain their competitive edge in the league.
