Robbie Savage, a former Leicester City midfielder, has started his coaching career with notable success at Macclesfield FC, a phoenix club in the Northern Premier League. The team leads the table, significantly ahead of their competitors. In light of his promising beginning, Savage expresses his aspirations in management and his willingness to learn and grow at his current level.
Robbie Savage said “I’m not arrogant enough to think that just because I played in the Premier League, I should be managing in league football right now. I’m managing at level three because I’ve done nothing yet. We’re in a good place at Macclesfield and it’s great that we’re getting acknowledgment for what we’re doing so far. The aim is to get promoted this season. The speculation is nice for my team. Until I’ve got any more news, I’m Macclesfield manager and thoroughly, thoroughly enjoying it and embracing it. I love it.”
Following his retirement in 2011, Robbie Savage has remained heavily involved in football, contributing as a pundit, director of football, and now as a manager. His extensive experience, combined with insights gained from watching his son Charlie play in League One, informs his ambition to reach the highest levels in coaching, mirroring the ambitions he held as a player.
Robbie Savage said “I’ve got 32 years of experience. I’ve watched so much football in the last four years, especially with my son Charlie playing in League One with Reading. I’ve watched every one of his games, so I know every team, I know how teams play, I know every player and that’s not just from League One, that’s from the Premier League down. My ambitions as a player were to play at the highest level I could and that was in the Premier League. I played in Europe. I played for my country, captained four Premier League clubs. The aim was to play as consistently high as I could, and I achieved that.”
Despite the strong position Macclesfield holds in their league, Savage emphasizes the need to continue their efforts throughout the season. His focus remains on thriving as a manager and building upon the team’s success.
Robbie Savage said “Nothing is won in December. All I can say is that I’m really enjoying being a manager at Macclesfield. We’re thriving and I’m learning all the time. As a staff, we’re doing well, and the players are embracing what we’re asking them to do. We’ve got a good lead at the top and we’ve got to keep doing what we’re doing.”
