BURNLEY midfielder Josh Benson has completed a move to Championship side Barnsley. The former Arsenal youngster departs having made 12 senior appearances for the Clarets including two Premier League starts. The 21-year-old has moved to Oakwell for an undisclosed fee, which it is reported could reach £1million, and signed a four-year deal. Benson told his new club’s website: "I'm buzzing to be here and I can't wait to play in front of the fans. “I was impressed last season by how close they got to promotion and getting in the play-offs, so I'm excited to join the team. "I've had a taste of the Premier League and that's definitely my main goal, to play in the Premier League." Barnsley FC Co-chairman, Paul Conway, added: “We are very excited to have acquired Josh, who immediately strengthens our midfield. “As we continue to progress, we aim to bring in unique talent to assist us in our next step and Josh’s experience at Premier League level is an important evolution of the squad. “Also, the length of this deal is significant, as it demonstrates both the club’s long-term commitment to Josh and his commitment to the club.” Benson had spent three seasons with the Clarets after signing in the summer of 2018 following a successful spell on trial in the Under-23s. He then progressed through the Academy ranks to make it into the Clarets’ senior squad. And following a loan spell with Grimsby Town in the 2019/20 season he made his senior Burnley debut in September 2020. The Clarets said in a statement: “The midfielder now gets the chance to further his career with Barnsley and everyone at Turf Moor wishes him well in the future.” The Tykes are looking to build on an impressive run to the play-offs after a fifth-placed finish in the Championship under Valerien Ismael. He has now moved on to West Bromwich Albion and been replaced by Austrian Markus Schopp. The 47-year-old was capped 56 times and played at the 1998 World Cup and has moved to Oakwell following a successful spell at TSV Hartberg.

Burnley have announced Spreadex as their principal shirt sponsor for the 2021/22 campaign in a “multi-million-pound deal”. The UK-based betting firm will also work with the club on a range of community and charity-based initiatives over the course of the season. “We are delighted to join the Burnley FC family as main sponsor at an exciting time in both the club’s and our own futures,” said Spreadex CEO Dave MacKenzie. “Burnley’s values and ambitions echo our own, and we’re looking forward to supporting the club throughout the 2021/22 season both on and off the pitch,” he added. The Clarets have also pledged to donate £5 from every third-choice shirt sold to Alzheimer’s Society, which Spreadex will match. Ella Cummings, Burnley’s Head of Commercial Partnerships, said: “We’re very proud of the pledge to donate £5 each for every third-choice shirt sold which will provide support for those affected by dementia following the devastating effects Covid has had on people up and down the country. “We know this is a cause close to Burnley fans’ hearts and we’ll be working closely with Alzheimer’s Society this season on projects to continue this important conversation.” The Clarets’ new home kit will be released later this week, and will be worn for the first time against Oldham Athletic on Saturday afternoon.

Brighton defender Matt Clarke has joined recently relegated Championship side, West Bromwich Albion on a season-long loan. The 24-year-old joined the Seagulls in the summer of 2019 on a four-year deal from League One side Portsmouth as one of Graham Potter’s first signings at the club but has yet to make an appearance. It will be the third consecutive season that the centre-back has spent on loan in the Championship having spent the previous two campaigns at Derby. In his two seasons at Pride Park, he made 81 appearances and scored one goal. Albion’s pathway development manager David Weir said: “Matt has done very well in his time with Derby, and shown he is very adept at Championship level and there was no shortage of clubs interested in taking him on loan. “Having just come down from the Premier League, West Bromwich Albion will be pushing for an instant return to the top level, and Matt will no doubt go there with that aim. "We will be monitoring his progress and wish him well for the new season ahead.” Clarke will be looking to help the Baggies win promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking under new manager Valerien Ismael. The French-German head coach guided Barnsley to a fifth-place finish in the Championship last season, before losing to Swansea in the play-off semi-finals. Clarke becomes the West Brom head coach’s third summer signing, after he secured the services of his captain at Barnsley, Alex Mowatt on a free transfer and highly rated midfielder Quevin Moises Castro on a free transfer, after he previously been on trial with Chelsea and Arsenal.

Albion striker Viktor Gyokeres has left the club to join Championship side Coventry for an undisclosed fee. The 23-year-old joined Albion in January 2018 but only made eight appearances for them during that time, with four coming in the Carabao Cup and the other four in the FA Cup. His only goal for the Seagulls came in September in their 4-0 win over Portsmouth at the Amex in the Carabao Cup second round. He then joined Championship side Swansea on a season-long loan in October. But after scoring just two goals in 13 appearances and only making nine starts, Gyokeres saw his loan cut short in January and he then joined fellow Championship side Coventry. In his 19 appearances for the Sky Blues, he scored three goals and has now made the switch to Mark Robins’ side permanent. Albion techncial dorector Dan Ahworth said: "This represents a good move for Viktor, as well as both clubs. He’s spent the last two years out on loan, but this gives him the chance to really settle in one place and play regularly at a really high standard, which at 23 is paramount for his own development. “Coventry were impressed with the impact he made in his relatively short time there last season and that can be an added confidence boost for Viktor. We wish him all the best for the future.”

Albion will have a new head coach in charge of their under-18s in the new season. Mark Beard has completed his switch to Stockport County, where he will be assistant to Simon Rusk. Albion technical director Dan Ashworth said: "We are disappointed to see him leave but fully appreciate the opportunity this is for him on a personal level. "On behalf of everyone at the club, I would like to thank him for what he has done for the club and wish Mark the best of luck in his new role." The 33-year-old departs by mutual consent having played almost 100 games over three seasons at the club. Sports boss Danny Bloor said: “Dean has been a fantastic servant to Eastbourne Borough Football Club. “After lengthy discussions, we mutually agreed a parting of ways and I certainly wish him and his family all the best for the future. #PLStories- Brighton striker #RyanLongman is likely to go out on loan again after signing new deal #BHAFC

The 20-year-old striker, who has been with Albion since the age of 12, impressed on his first loan away from the club at League One side AFC Wimbledon. In his first season of regular senior football, Longman made 52 appearances in all competitions for the Dons, scoring nine goals and getting five assists in all comeptitions. That helped Wimbledon to avoid relegation from League One. He also played a key role in helping them to reach the Quarter-Finals of the Papa John's Trophy before being knocked out by fellow League One side Oxford United. After signing his new deal, Albion's technical director Dan Ashworth admits Longman is likely to head out on loan again to continue his development. He said: "Ryan really proved himself in men's football last season with Wimbledon, impressing David Weir and his team and has earned this new contract. "Ryan is keen to continue to learn and wants to build on what that experience has given him. "We are currently reviewing his situation, and that is likely to involve another season on loan, but we are confident he has another good year ahead of him."

The Slovenian striker has joined Hajduk Split on a permanent deal on undisclosed terms. Mlakar signed for the Seagulls from Maribor in January 2019, and he also spent time out on loan in the Championship with QPR and Wigan Athletic. He spent last term back on loan back at Maribor and was joint top scorer in the Slovenian top tier with 15 goals in 35 games. But his impact while in or Championship was minimal. BRIGHTON'S ROBERT SANCHEZ SIGNS IN TRAINING WITH SPAIN Albion technical director Dan Ashworth said: “After a good season with Maribor, and having made his national team debut, Jan now has the option of a permanent move to Hajduk Split. “It's a move which suits all parties, and we wish Jan all the best of luck for the future at both club and international level.” Mlakar never made a senior appearance for Albion.
