Takehiro Tomiyasu’s move to Arsenal has been completed. The 22-year-old Japan international becomes the Gunners’ sixth and final signing of what has been a busy summer transfer window, taking their spending over the £150million mark with his £19.75m deal. Speaking about the deal, Gunners technical director Edu has revealed that the club have been scouting the defender for some time now, hence his happiness at securing his signature.
Edu said: “We’re delighted to have signed Takehiro. We’ve been watching him for a while now and we’re pleased that we have reached an agreement with Bologna. He is an important addition to our squad.”
Meanwhile, manager Mikel Arteta outlined exactly why he targeted Tomiyasu to complete Arsenal’s summer business.
Mikel Arteta said: “Takehiro is a strong defender with good experience in Serie A and at international level,” the Spaniard added. “He’s a versatile defender with great defensive qualities, high technical ability and composure on the ball. He will be an important member of our squad. We look forward to Takehiro joining up with us when he returns from international duty.”
