Neto, who recently turned 21, has enjoyed an outstanding season for Wolves and is well in contention to win the PFA Player of the Year award. The Portugal international has contributed five goals and five assists this term, with three of his strikes giving Wolves Premier League victories. He’s also among the league’s most prolific chance creators. For most Wolves fans Neto is a certainty to win the club’s annual Player of the Year award, and midfielder Ruben Neves recently put his weight behind his compatriot too. I think this season he has been the best player we have in the squad. He can give us a lot of things. It's not easy to find a player like him." In response, Neto said: “It means a lot. One of the best things in football is to be recognised, especially by your teammates, because that is the best feeling. “That’s because they play too, they know what we are doing and they know what I do all day, so to hear Ruben say that was an unbelievable feeling. I hope to continue to help my team, so they continue to recognise my game. “I don’t think about being the best, all I want to do is help my teammates, to come here every day to enjoy the day with them, enjoy playing with them, and then I will let other people talk about me. “If they say I’ve been the best, then it’s good to be recognised, but I will focus on my game.” Neto has played a large portion of this season on the left of Wolves’ attack, a position previously occupied by Diogo Jota. #PLStories – #PedroNeto admits Liverpool side without #VirgilVanDijk #JoelMatip is easy for him to play #WolvesFC #LFC

Pedro Neto will lead Wolverhampton Wanderers’ fight against reigning champions Liverpool on Monday night. Jurgen Klopp’s side have lost six of their last seven Premier League games and Wolves will fancy their chances of adding to the Reds’ woes. It has been far from vintage Wolves this season, but Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have improved of late and should have taken three points at Aston Villa last time out. Neto was Villa’s tormentor-in-chief and the rapid winger has been Wolves’ stand-out player in an otherwise disappointing campaign. Video Loading Video Unavailable Click to play Tap to play The video will auto-play soon8Cancel The 21-year-old has five goals and five assists from 28 games in the Premier League to put him in contention for the prestigious PFA Young Player of the Year award. Such is Neto’s confidence at present, the winger insists he would rather face Liverpool’s imperious defenders Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip instead of the makeshift back-line Klopp will be forced to field at Molineux. “I have to be honest, I would rather play against van Dijk or Matip because I like to test myself against the best so I can improve my game,” Neto told wolves.co.uk. “The best thing we can do in football to learn, is to play with the best. “I came to this league to play with the best and to play against the best, and to show that I can do my job and play my game whoever is on the pitch.” Read More Related Articles Read More Related Articles One of the many problems Nuno is trying to fix is the lack of first half goals Wolves have scored. The Molineux men have been slow starters since their promotion to the Premier League, but they’ve scored just once in the first half of their last eight games. And Neto believes supporters can expect to see a more rampant Wolves from the off against Liverpool. “We are trying to change our mentality to go a little bit better in the first half, and we are looking forward to the game because it will be a good game, a hard game,” he added. “It’s always a difficult game against Liverpool because they have a very good team, but we have to take the opportunities in these difficult games to show that we have personality to play and to show our game.” Read More Related Articles Read More Related Articles

#PLStories- #PepGuardiola singles out ‘incredible’ #PedroNeto & #AdamaTraore #MCFC #WOLVESFC

Pep Guardiola has praised his Manchester City team for preventing Wolverhampton Wanderers from running riot at The Etihad last night. Conor Coady scored Wolves’ only shot on target to tie the game at 1-1 just past the hour mark and Nuno Espirito Santo’s side briefly threatened another upset in the five minutes that followed. Pedro Neto and Adama Traore came to life, with the latter having two further shots at Ederson’s goal without success. City eventually regained control of the clash and netted three goals in the final 10 minutes through Gabriel Jesus (2) and Riyad Mahrez to seal a 4-1 victory. In the first half they played 5-4-1 with two players on the sides - (Nelson) Semedo and Neto - who didn’t jump. In the second half they jumped more so we found the players in the positions and created clear chances. “After 1-1 we were a little bit shocked but if you analyse five minutes Wolves were good, OK. But if you analyse 95 minutes, except seven or eight minutes, we were better. “We were better and I know how tough it is against Wolves. Wolves are one of the toughest opponents we’ve faced in three or four years because they are so good at doing what they do. “That’s why we were patient. They look for you to lose patience and punish you. You cannot afford to lose patience against that team.” Read More Related Articles Read More Related Articles Guardiola’s team were punished twice last season as Wolves completed the double with 2-0 and 3-2 successes. But City have got to grips with Wolves this campaign and extended their remarkable winning streak to 21 matches across all competitions last night. The City boss added: “Don’t let them run, especially this team. They are masters, they are genius and well organised to run. They have players to make 40 or 50 metres with the ball. They are so different. Neto is an incredible player and Adama as well. #PremierLeagueStories – #PedroNeto compares teammate #DanielPodence to #EdenHazard #WWFC

Pedro Neto and Daniel Podence have been the two stars of Wolverhampton Wanderers’ faltering season. Neto, 20, has stepped out of Diogo Jota’s shadow and become one of Nuno Espirito Santo’s most reliable players. The former Braga and Lazio winger has started 16 of Wolves’ 17 Premier League games this term and has four goals and three assists to his name - already a marginal improvement on his output last season. Podence was made to wait patiently for his chances after joining Wolves from Olympiakos last January but, like his compatriot Neto, he’s become a mainstay in the team. Video Loading Video Unavailable Click to play Tap to play The video will auto-play soon8Cancel Wolves have started four games without Podence in 2020/21 and they’ve failed to win any of them, highlighting his importance nowadays. Both have received their first senior call-ups to the Portuguese national team too and made their debuts towards the end of 2020. While Neto and Podence are equally important to Wolves, they are vastly different characters. Neto is calm and composed, whereas Podence wears his heart on his sleeve. The diminutive attacker has shown his frustration with opponents and referees on numerous occasions this season, both on and off the field. "I call Podence a mini-Hazard, because he has characteristics similar to his,” he told Portuguese newspaper O Jogo. “He always seems to be upset, but it's just his way of being." The high point of both Neto and Podence’s season came against Chelsea at Molineux just before Christmas. Wolves fell behind to Olivier Giroud’s goal before their two Portuguese aces turned the game around. Podence, via a jinking run and a devastating finish, levelled the match midway through the second half before Neto went on a lung-busting run and won it in the fifth minute of stoppage time. It was something natural, the result of the longing for the fans. I didn't even think twice, it was just a moment of pure happiness.”
