Julen Lopetegui has revealed Pedro Neto is ‘improving a lot’ and should make his Wolverhampton Wanderers comeback sooner rather than later. Neto isn’t quite in full team training yet, as per a club update earlier this week, but the Portuguese wide man is stepping up his recovery after four months on the sidelines. Neto has missed Wolves’ last 17 matches after suffering a serious ankle injury in the 2-0 defeat to West Ham on October 1.
Julien Lopetegui said: “This is one of the positive things. He is improving a lot. He’s not ready for tomorrow but in the last week he has made a big improvement. It’s a good thing for us. He was out for four months and he will be ready to improve in the next weeks. The last part of the recovery is sometimes not about the recovery. It depends on the player’s physical condition. We will see.”
Neto – who won Wolves’ 2020/21 player of the year award – will bolster a squad which now appears considerably stronger on paper than it did at the start of the year. Wolves added six players in the January transfer window to give Lopetegui the tools to fight relegation.
Julien Lopetegui said: “The club did good work balancing the team. The most important thing is not the transfer window, it’s to improve the squad and believe in ourselves. The new signings are here to help us but it’s not just about them, it’s about the rest of the players who are here working very hard.”
