#PLStories- #PepGuardiola singles out ‘incredible’ #PedroNeto & #AdamaTraore #MCFC #WOLVESFC

Pep Guardiola has praised his Manchester City team for preventing Wolverhampton Wanderers from running riot at The Etihad last night. Conor Coady scored Wolves’ only shot on target to tie the game at 1-1 just past the hour mark and Nuno Espirito Santo’s side briefly threatened another upset in the five minutes that followed. Pedro Neto and Adama Traore came to life, with the latter having two further shots at Ederson’s goal without success. City eventually regained control of the clash and netted three goals in the final 10 minutes through Gabriel Jesus (2) and Riyad Mahrez to seal a 4-1 victory. In the first half they played 5-4-1 with two players on the sides - (Nelson) Semedo and Neto - who didn’t jump. In the second half they jumped more so we found the players in the positions and created clear chances. “After 1-1 we were a little bit shocked but if you analyse five minutes Wolves were good, OK. But if you analyse 95 minutes, except seven or eight minutes, we were better. “We were better and I know how tough it is against Wolves. Wolves are one of the toughest opponents we’ve faced in three or four years because they are so good at doing what they do. “That’s why we were patient. They look for you to lose patience and punish you. You cannot afford to lose patience against that team.” Read More Related Articles Read More Related Articles Guardiola’s team were punished twice last season as Wolves completed the double with 2-0 and 3-2 successes. They are so different. Neto is an incredible player and Adama as well. #PLStories- Wolves boss #NunoEspiritoSanto explains big #AdamaTraore mystery #WOLVESFC

Adama Traore is one of the most exciting players in the Premier League when he is in full flight but mystery has surrounded his use of baby oil on his arms. But now Wolves boss Nuno has finally explained why the winger is proving to be a slippery customer when defenders try to catch him. He has been pictured several times applying baby oil either before a game or when he comes on from the substitutes' bench. But Nuno says the idea came from the club's medical department following a shoulder injury he once sustained when a defender grabbed his arm. Ahead of Wolves' clash against Manchester City, the Wolves boss said: "It was not my idea but it’s a good idea. Wolves daily newsletter. Free. It’s hard to stop Adama – and he becomes more slippery. “I thought honestly it was a fantastic idea by the medical department who suggested that. “It came from an injury he had on his shoulder which came from an opponent holding his arm. It became an option to avoid it and he kept on doing it.” Nuno will hope Traore can produce a stellar performance in midweek when Wolves face Manchester City who won their 20th game in a row at the weekend. City boss Pep Guardiola says his players can expect to suffer against Wolves despite their amazing run. “It is so difficult,” he said. “To have 20 wins in this period, I think this could be the greatest achievement we have done. “It doesn’t mean we have won the title of course, but in winter time in England, every three days a game, COVID-19 situation, injuries... winning, winning, winning shows strength, mentally. We play Tuesday and then we will have two days off before United to have a rest from each other. “We must rest mentally and physically. If not, you cannot sustain it, but the big teams have to do it. From tomorrow, we look to Wolves and in past years we suffered against them."

#PLStories- #NunoEspiritoSanto praises #AdamaTraore strike against Leeds #WOLVESFC

Nuno Espirito Santo believes Adama Traore’s ‘almost unstoppable’ strike deserved to end up in the back of Leeds United’s net. Illan Meslier’s own goal sealed the 1-0 victory for Wolves at Molineux - but the winner came from a huge slice of luck. Traore fired in a shot from 30 yards which struck the woodwork and bounced off Meslier’s backside before trickling over the line. The win extends Wolves’ improved run of form, with Nuno’s side now unbeaten in their last four Premier League games. We have to deserve that luck. It’s a fantastic action. “Today was not perfect. On set pieces there weren't many first contacts, but Leeds is a very difficult opponent. Both goalkeepers were active in the game and we watched a very good game of football.” Another player who impressed for Wolves was right wing-back Nelson Semedo, who went close with three shots during the opening 45 minutes. #PremierLeagueStories – #NunoEspiritoSanto talks about #AdamaTraore contract situation amidst exit talks #WWFC

Nuno Espirito Santo has once again gone on the charm offensive with star winger Adama Traore. Wolverhampton Wanderers want to tie Traore down to a new contract at Molineux but negotiations between the club and his representatives have stalled. Traore still has three years remaining on his current contract so there’s little reason for Wolves to panic, but his suitors are likely to be encouraged by the stand-off. Wolves’ case is no doubt not being helped by Traore’s lack of game-time with Daniel Podence and Pedro Neto preferred in attack since the 4-0 defeat to West Ham in September. Video Loading Video Unavailable Click to play Tap to play The video will auto-play soon8Cancel Traore has played almost twice as many minutes for Spain (196) than he has for Wolves (99) since that night at the London Stadium. But Nuno remains adamant that Traore is still central to his plans at Wolves and gave the following response when asked whether he still hopes an agreement can be reached over a new deal. “Of course,” said Nuno, who has himself recently committed to Wolves. “Adama is a huge player for us. The impact that he has on the games, what he gives to the team, what he’s done over these two seasons. We want all the players to be happy here.” Traore will undoubtedly come into Nuno’s thinking for a starting place on Monday when Southampton visit Molineux, with Wolves looking to improve on a poor showing at Leicester prior to the international break. We are in contact and he has his individual training sessions but we still don’t know how he’s going to be. He is trying to maintain his level of fitness but he hasn’t been involved in training since the first day of England training." Coady has played every single minute in Wolves' last 119 league matches and no player has featured more for the club during Nuno's reign as head coach.

#PremierLeagueStories – #TrentAlexanderArnold talks about feeling powerless when playing against Wolves winger #AdamaTraore #WWFC #LFC

Trent Alexander-Arnold has admitted he felt 'powerless' up against Wolverhampton Wanderers' Adama Traore last season. Traore, 24, enjoyed a wonderful 2019/20 campaign and finished it as one of the Premier League's top assist makers, with only a handful of players - including Alexander-Arnold - contributing more than the Spaniard's nine. His superb form has sparked plenty of transfer interest with virtually every top team in Europe reportedly keeping tabs on Traore, who has been offered a new contract by Wolves. Liverpool, whose manager Jurgen Klopp dubbed Traore 'unplayable', are said to be among his admirers. Video Loading Video Unavailable Click to play Tap to play The video will auto-play soon8Cancel Wolves were narrowly beaten in both of their games against Liverpool last season, with the Reds winning 1-0 at Anfield and 2-1 at Molineux. Traore starred in both matches, especially at Molineux in January where he set up Raul Jimenez to score with a trademark dash down the wing followed by a pinpoint delivery. And Alexander-Arnold has echoed the thoughts of his manager when it comes to Wolves' electric winger. The England right-back was piecing together his perfect footballer for Goal and, perhaps unsurprisingly, Traore is the player he's chosen to fill the speed category. "I’ve never felt so powerless against someone. “People are faster than you, that’s inevitable, but you can get yourself in good positions, give yourself a head start and get yourself in the race. But with him, and with his power as well, there’s nothing you can really do. “I remember last season when he came on at Anfield. He’s just turned and knocked it, and he was gone. I’ve never felt like that before! It has to be him, has to be.” Alexander-Arnold was speaking exclusively to Goal after being named in the 2020 Goal 50 list and the full article can be viewed HERE.

#PLStories – #ConorCoady reveals #MaxKilman is the only player who dares to challenge #AdamaTraore in training #WolvesFC

Wolves captain Conor Coady has heaped praise on last night's star performer Max Kilman - despite joking about his man-of-the-match award. The 23-year-old made his second-successive start alongside Coady and Willy Boly as Nuno's men recorded their back-to-back clean sheets. The 1-0 victory over Leeds was Kilman's sixth Premier League appearance for the club and, afterwards, Coady was asked about his teammate's classy display. "Did he?! No he never!?" was Coady's initial response when told of Kilman's man-of-the-match gong, adding: "He's been brilliant, honestly. "He's been with us for years. He's a great lad. Tonight he was brilliant. He's learnt that role inside out for three or four years. He gives us a little bit of balance on that left-hand side as does Saiss as well. He's been brilliant the last few games and he'll keep on getting better. He's a pleasure to play with." He loves having battles with Adama. Most people don't go near Adama in training and he full on fights with him and he loves that side of it. "He's improved loads in the last few years and he was brilliant again tonight. He deserved man of the match, by the way!" Match-winner Raul Jimenez scored his third Premier League goal of the season for Wolves at Elland Road and, afterwards, Coady commented on the result: "It was a massive result for us. We knew coming here how tough it was going to be but we worked the game plan out over the last few days. They were fantastic last year and deservedly so got to the Premier League. "It's always about managing a game and looking at how they play. We've never played against Leeds before with their manager. It's hard to get after them. They were very attacking. They play at 100mph and you've got to play with your brains. It's tough. They're very attacking with two wing-backs who are wingers. We needed to look at that. "Second half we knew we'd get more control and we knew they'd tire a bit. I thought we played fantastic second-half. A clean sheet is massive for us, we want one every single game and that's what we base our foundations off. We can't have it every single game. We want to manage the game as much as possible. We never ever put targets on what we want to do, we never done it in the Championship and we won't start to do that now. There's plenty to improve on. The manager's spoken a lot about evolving year on year and we'll keep on doing that. We've got a wonderful manager who we all listen to every day and, like I said, we're a team who lives for the present and we'll see how the next one goes." Wolves now have back-to-back home fixtures at Molineux against Newcastle United on Sunday (kick-off 4.30pm) and Crystal Palace the following Friday (October 30, kick-off 8pm).
