Manchester City striker Niall Quinn reckoned that Manchester City was going to get a great player if they could manage to price Middlesbrough’s Irish International defender, Alan Kernaghan. Middlesbrough had already rejected a £1.5 million bid from City for the player who had just signed a three-year deal at Ayresome Park that summer. City boss Brian Horton was mulling over increasing the bid for the player but cited lack of funds.
Nial Quinn said, “If City buys Alan Kernaghan, they would be buying an emerging international player, we saw on Wednesday for Ireland that Alan is coming of age as a quality player.”
Brian Horton said “I’ve offered a lot of money already. Kernaghan is a good player but our squad is lacking in depth and I may not be able to go any further for just one player.”
