Nuno Espirito Santo

#PLStories- #NunoEspiritoSanto issues update on Wolves keeper #RuiPatricio after head injury #WOLVESFC

Rui Patricio has regained consciousness and ‘remembers’ the incident which led to his head injury against Liverpool. The Wolves goalkeeper was left in a heap in the final minutes of the 1-0 defeat to Liverpool after being caught by Conor Coady as the defender tried to prevent Mohamed Salah from scoring. Salah chipped the ball over Patricio and wheeled away in celebration only for the offside flag to be raised on the far side. Patricio remained motionless though and replays showed the goalkeeper was hit by Coady as the defender raced back to challenge Salah. He left the field on a stretcher and received oxygen during several minutes of treatment. Wolves daily newsletter. Free. "He's OK and remembers what happened,” said Nuno. “We have to take the right precautions, but he's OK. For now, he's fine." Patricio wasn’t immediately taken to hospital after being treated by Wolves’ medical team and they will monitor his situation. Nuno added: “He’s being assessed by the doctors but they tell me he’s OK. It’s just a case of being aware in the following hours.” Patricio was replaced by veteran goalkeeper John Ruddy for the final minutes against Liverpool. Wolves had used all three of their substitutes but were allowed to introduce Ruddy due to the new concussion substitute rule. Read More Related Articles Read More Related Articles

#PLStories- #PedroNeto responds to #RubenNeves over ‘best player’ claim #WOLVESFC

The remarkable talents of Wolverhampton Wanderers wonderkid Pedro Neto are no longer a secret. Neto, who recently turned 21, has enjoyed an outstanding season for Wolves and is well in contention to win the PFA Player of the Year award. The Portugal international has contributed five goals and five assists this term, with three of his strikes giving Wolves Premier League victories. He’s also among the league’s most prolific chance creators. For most Wolves fans Neto is a certainty to win the club’s annual Player of the Year award, and midfielder Ruben Neves recently put his weight behind his compatriot too. I think this season he has been the best player we have in the squad. He can give us a lot of things. It's not easy to find a player like him." In response, Neto said: “It means a lot. One of the best things in football is to be recognised, especially by your teammates, because that is the best feeling. “That’s because they play too, they know what we are doing and they know what I do all day, so to hear Ruben say that was an unbelievable feeling. I feel good in myself, so when I go to the game, I always try to give a goal or an assist to help the team. This is the most important.” Read More Related Articles Read More Related Articles
Gabriel Martinelli Arsenal

#PLStories – #GabrielMartinelli shows his frustration with #MikelArteta on social media #ArsenalFC

Gabriel Martinelli was not in the Arsenal squad to face Tottenham Hotspur. This means it is now seven successive Premier League games in which the Brazilian wonderkid has not played a single minute in, although he did make the substitutes bench in the previous six. In fact, Martinelli's last outing for Arsenal came in the Europa League round of 32 first-leg draw against Benfica last month as he got 13 minutes under his belt at the Stadio Olimpico. And his lack of game time in the Premier League has recently prompted concern amongst some Gunners supporters who are keen for manager Mikel Arteta to give the 19-year-old a chance. Read More Related Articles Read More Related Articles But fans were denied their wish as in a rather surprising decision, Arteta left the teenager at home. It would appear that Martinelli was simply not selected as the north London outfit revealed on their official website that Arteta had a fully fit squad available for selection against Spurs. "There are no health or injury issues to report following Thursday’s match in Athens against Olympiacos," an update reads. "All players in the men’s first-team squad are currently available for selection." Taking Martinelli's place on the bench was captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who was dropped for a disciplinary issue - reportedly for a late arrival ahead of the game, Whether Arteta is keeping the teenager fresh for Thursday's Europa League second leg against Olympiacos remains to be seen Gabriel Martinelli was active on social media before Arsenal took on Tottenham in the North London derby. (Image: Gabriel Martinelli/ Instagram) With that said, Martinelli was active on social media, presumably upon learning of Arteta's decision. Taking to Instagram just over an hour before the Arsenal lineup was announced, the Brazilian uploaded an image of himself at the club's London Colney training base. The post was captioned with one word: Domingo, which in translation means 'Sunday' whilst the temperature at the training ground was also noted. Since the turn of the year the teenager has played just 53 minutes across two appearances in the Premier League for Arsenal and the reason for his lack of game time has been explained by Arteta. "Everybody has raised the level in recent weeks," Arteta said. "Since Christmas the front players have given us something different. "Laca has given us some really good spells, Nicolas Pepe is the same. I was really pleased with Willian yesterday because of the way he trains and he is starting to produce in games. "Everybody has to step up in games and create big moments because the front players at the end have to be the ones who decide it for us."
Pierre Emerick Aubameyang

#PLStories- #PierreEmerickAubameyang says little to express #NorthLondonDerby joy after being dropped for Arsenal win #ARSENALFC

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has made his first comments after being dropped for Arsenal's north London derby win over Tottenham Hotspur. The Gunners captain was a surprise omission from the starting XI on Sunday afternoon, with manager Mikel Arteta admitting that the 31-year-old was in line to start. However, according to the Athletic, the reason Aubameyang was dropped is because he was late for meeting up with the Arsenal first-team ahead of the north London derby. And speaking to Sky Sports when explaining his team selection against Spurs, Arteta confirmed the decision was disciplinary-related but refused to go into more detail regarding Aubameyang's absence. Read More Related Articles Read More Related Articles "He was going to start the game. We had a disciplinary issue, we have drawn the line and we move on, he’s on the bench," Arteta told Sky Sports. "No, we obviously keep that internal. We have a process we have to respect for every game and that’s it. "It’s a decision made after evaluating everything about what Auba has done and that’s it. "We have other players and we’ve had to change the team recently quite a lot and we have players that are willing to play and deserve the chance, so I am confident with that." In the end, Arteta's decision to take such a stance paid off and without his leading scorer, his side came from behind to seal a 2-1 win thanks to goals from Martin Odegaard and Alexandre Lacazette. With that said, all appears well with the Gunners captain as he has shown his support for his teammates in the aftermath of the north London derby victory. Taking to social media after the game, Aubameyang broke his silence with a seven-word message that Arsenal fans will agree with. "North London is Red and that’s it!!!," he wrote on Instagram. Speaking in his post-match press conference, Arteta did suggest that he is ready to move on from the minor indiscretion. "I made what I thought was the right decision," he said. "We draw a line there. Let's move on again. We know how important Auba is for the club. It's been dealt with and let's move on."
Pedro Neto

#PLStories – #PedroNeto admits Liverpool side without #VirgilVanDijk #JoelMatip is easy for him to play #WolvesFC #LFC

Pedro Neto will lead Wolverhampton Wanderers’ fight against reigning champions Liverpool on Monday night. Jurgen Klopp’s side have lost six of their last seven Premier League games and Wolves will fancy their chances of adding to the Reds’ woes. It has been far from vintage Wolves this season, but Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have improved of late and should have taken three points at Aston Villa last time out. Neto was Villa’s tormentor-in-chief and the rapid winger has been Wolves’ stand-out player in an otherwise disappointing campaign. Video Loading Video Unavailable Click to play Tap to play The video will auto-play soon8Cancel The 21-year-old has five goals and five assists from 28 games in the Premier League to put him in contention for the prestigious PFA Young Player of the Year award. Such is Neto’s confidence at present, the winger insists he would rather face Liverpool’s imperious defenders Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip instead of the makeshift back-line Klopp will be forced to field at Molineux. “I have to be honest, I would rather play against van Dijk or Matip because I like to test myself against the best so I can improve my game,” Neto told wolves.co.uk. “The best thing we can do in football to learn, is to play with the best. “I came to this league to play with the best and to play against the best, and to show that I can do my job and play my game whoever is on the pitch.” Read More Related Articles Read More Related Articles One of the many problems Nuno is trying to fix is the lack of first half goals Wolves have scored. The Molineux men have been slow starters since their promotion to the Premier League, but they’ve scored just once in the first half of their last eight games. And Neto believes supporters can expect to see a more rampant Wolves from the off against Liverpool. “We are trying to change our mentality to go a little bit better in the first half, and we are looking forward to the game because it will be a good game, a hard game,” he added. “It’s always a difficult game against Liverpool because they have a very good team, but we have to take the opportunities in these difficult games to show that we have personality to play and to show our game.” Read More Related Articles Read More Related Articles
Jota Klopp

#PLStories – #JurgenKlopp does not want to disturb partnership of #NatPhillips and #OzanKabak #LFC

Jurgen Klopp has hinted that Liverpool will persist with a rookie defensive pairing against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday. Liverpool have lost six of their last seven games in the Premier League and arrive at Molineux desperately in need of three points to boost their top four hopes. Klopp's team have struggled to deal with injuries to key defenders, with Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip all currently sidelined. While the trio are making progress, Klopp doesn't expect any of his three first choice centre-backs to play before next season. Video Loading Video Unavailable Click to play Tap to play The video will auto-play soon8Cancel "We all hope they will be ready to start pre-season with us, that's what we all hope," Klopp said at his pre-Wolves press conference. "With Joel it is pretty much the same. "These are really serious injuries and it is now not about talking about which competition they play. "As far as I know – and I am always open for positive surprises and they all of a sudden turn up in team training but no-one told me that. "The two of them (Van Dijk and Gomez) look better than Joel as he is still in what looks like ski boots. Joe is not running. Virgil is already running but this is a real tough one. "We will be completely over the moon when they are ready to train with us for the start of pre-season but the Euros I didn't think about it."
