Adam Webster Brighton

#PLStories- #GrahamPotter reveals #AdamWebster is set for a spell on the sidelines #BHAFC

Brighton head coach Graham Potter has given an injury update on Adam Webster, Pascal Gross, Enock Mwepu and the rest of his squad ahead of their clash with Leicester on Sunday afternoon at the Amex (2pm). Webster had to gingerly walk off the pitch 37 minutes into their 1-0 win over Brentford due to a hamstring injury he picked up when clearing the ball. Gross and Mwepu both missed on the matchday squad at the Brentford Community Stadium due to Covid-related issues. But ahead of their clash with the Foxes, Potter has given an update on the trio and the rest of his squad. He said: “Enock is available, Pascal isn't. Adam Webster will miss the game. Dan Burn is back in contention for the squad. "Adam we are probably looking the other side of the international break." Potter also revealed Tariq Lamptey is still on course to return for Albion in their Carabao Cup tie on Wednesday against Swansea. He said: "Tariq has made really good for progress for a while and is looking better and better so that is still the plan for him (Swansea cup game)." Potter also confirmed Aaron Connolly is available having trained all week after missing out on the squad at Brentford last weekend.
Yves Bissouma

#PLStories- Brighton’s #YvesBissouma believes he is the best midfielder in the Premier League #BHAFC

Brighton's Yves Bissouma believes he is one of the best midfielders in the Premier League. The 25-year-old is one of the first names on the teamsheet for Albion and an intergral part of their midfield. That has seen him miss just two of their last 42 Prem games with one of those being due to suspension. Bissouma made his 100th appearances for the Seagulls and his 90th appearance in the top flight on Saturday in their 1-0 win over Brentford. But in an interview with BBC Football Focus, which was conducted by his former Albion teammate and club legend Glenn Murray, Bissouma believes he is the best midfielder in the Prem. He said: "I don't want to be arrogant, but it's me because in my head I am working to be the best. "So I cannot say another name, I know in the Premier League there are so many good midfielder, but for me, it's me because that gives me the confidence and the energy to work hard to show people I am here and I am Bissouma. "I just want to be focus on football to play in every game, every week to be good, to help my team win and the rest we will see."
Mohamed Elyounoussi

#PLStories- #MohamedElyounoussi reflects on fond memories at Manchester City #MCFC #SAINSTFC

MOHAMED Elyounoussi insisted Saints needed to be “strong” when they visit Manchester City tomorrow (3pm) – having previously made an impact himself at Etihad Stadium. The Norwegian forward registered a goal and an assist during a Champions League last-16 tie against Pep Guardiola’s side, for FC Basel back in March 2018. City won the tie 5-2 on aggregate, but it did not stop Elyounoussi’s former club sealing a 2-1 success in England. "Yeah, I have had good experience there before in the Champions League with Basel,” said the Saints winger, who arrived on the south coast just four months after scoring at City. “I didn't touch the ball a lot, but the few times when I did, it was good.” Saints are still yet to win in the Premier League this season, with three points from their opening four league outings. The 27-year-old added: "It will be about being defensively strong and disciplined, because of course they are one of the best teams in the world and they are used to playing against teams who make it difficult for them, so they are used to breaking teams down. "But we need to be strong, have a good game plan and hopefully we can have a good result there."
Tino Livramento

#PLStories- #RalphHasenhuttl says #TinoLivramento could play as a winger #SAINTSFC

RALPH Hasenhuttl speculated on the idea that teenage sensation Tino Livramento could play further up the pitch in a wide midfield role, answering: “Good question. I am sure he could play this position.” The ex-Chelsea youngster joined Saints this summer with a keen sense of intrigue and an already enhanced reputation after winning the Blues’ academy player of the year award – but no-one could predict what’d happen next. Not only did he impress Hasenhuttl enough that he usurped Kyle Walker-Peters and turned his right-back position into his own, he also escaped the Hasenhuttl long-term project zone which every other signing seems to go through. As was seen with Mohammed Salisu last season, and again with Brazilian defender Lyanco – players don’t just walk into Hasenhuttl's sides, not least into a position of which was already occupied by a top performer. But that’s the reality of the talent Livramento possesses. He showed fans why he was not to be left out with storming runs and unheralded confidence, for an 18-year-old – it seems a matter of time before he begins to add goal contributions from the back four, let alone mention his already impressive defending. His ability going forward and bravery to try the difficult ball has led to reports emerging that suggest he could be set for some time further up the pitch. Hasenhuttl admits he could play there, but squashed such an idea for the time being at least, telling the Daily Echo: “Good question. I am sure that he could play in this position also. “I think the question is always where you can bring his qualities most to shine. “I have to do that every week.He has his qualities up front but he also is defensively very strong. “You know that his positions in the Premier League are very often strong one against one players, and there he was for me in some moments the better option now than Kyle (Walker-Peters) who did last season a very good job, I think I have a very good combination. “I also have Yan Valery there who is defensively strong and has very good physique. On the other side, Romain and Kyle on the other side also good alternatives, Thierry Small is coming in the young lad, we have now five players in the full-back positions if you want. “This is the future for the club and these players will definitely all have chances to play. "They will get their chances to play. "In the 10 position we have the same issue where I put Tino up and we also have five players. “There are players there I want to play like Stuart Armstrong, Theo Walcott, Nathan Redmond, Moussa Djenepo and Moi Elyounoussi.” But then the Austrian added: “That does not mean there doesn’t come a game where he has to play up there.” Livramento announced himself to Saints fans with a second-half cameo against Athletic Bilbao during pre-season, dinking a delightful ball into Theo Walcott’s path to finish literally seconds after coming on. His next St Mary’s appearance brought about a Sky Sports man of the match performance against Manchester United, before his following home match saw him contribute towards his first ever Premier League clean sheet. The youngster will want to continue on his upward trajectory and has a clear aim set out by Hasenhuttl, who added: “If you know me you would know I’m not a big fan of big shouting on the pitch. “Taking, I don’t know, leaderships on the pitch or whatever. “Run, play football and do what we ask you to do and do a good job for a player we have for running and not shouting.”
Ralph Hasenhuttl

#PLStories- #RalphHasenhuttl on Southampton team shape ahead of Man City #SAINTSFC

RALPH Hasenhuttl has given a cryptic response after starting with a new formation for the first time against West Ham and picking up a first clean sheet since March, giving nothing away with: “It doesn’t mean we have to play with this shape all the time.” The Austrian boss has added a refreshing feel of uncertainty to his team and opened the door to the possibility of anything, showing that he is now prepared to be versatile and flexible in shape selection – something that had previously been absent. A first change came midway through the Manchester United contest, opting to go with a five-at-the-back in an attempt to dig in and protect a slender 1-0 lead – resulting eventually in a good point picked up. Following that up after the international break with a 4-1-4-1 from the off, it now feels like the opposition can’t 100% accurately predict how Saints will line up on the whistle. The solid half-back-esque role that Oriol Romeu played helped ensure that the four defenders were always protected, while Moi Elyounoussi and James Ward-Prowse roamed just ahead – although they struggled to put passes together for much of the contest. Oriol Romeu's starting position against West Ham was very deep (Pic: Stuart Martin) Saints hadn’t looked like keeping a Premier League shutout in recent memory, so you might suggest that Hasenhuttl sticks with that shape in the hope of a repeat – but the boss admits it isn’t quite that simple. Speaking ahead of the game, he said: “If it would be so easy that would be nice. “But every team has different strengths and that doesn’t mean that you now play with this shape all the time. “It can be that it’s a tactically variable game from both sides.” Saints have had a full week to work on preparation for the contest, while City have had the added distraction of a Champions League tie against German Bundesliga outfit and Hasenhuttl’s former side, Red Bull Leipzig. They came through that with a 6-3 win at the Etihad, but will now only have two days of training to turn attentions to what Pep Guardiola has described as a ‘dangerous’ Saints side. Ralph Hasenhuttl is still searching for a first win of the 2021-22 Premier League campaign Hasenhuttl added: “Yeah, in general, I must say that we have this season a very work-oriented mentality in the team and it’s enjoyable for me as a manager, for all the staff, to work with the guys. “It’s a good atmosphere. Yes, nobody expects that we now take the first win against Man City but this is also the chance. “Nobody expects something from you and you can go there without – if you want to say it, a big pressure – to win, to must-win there. “The next two away games are definitely maybe the most difficult in this season, against Man City and then against Chelsea. We must be ready for it. “We had a good week to prepare, this is all we can do and then then we must show the best possible performance.”
Sean Dyche Burnley

#PLStories- Burnley boss #SeanDyche on new deal and relationship with #AlanPace #BURNLEYFC

Sean Dyche admitted it was never really in doubt he would stay at Burnley after he extended his contract for a further four years. The 50-year-old is the longest-serving boss in the Premier League, having been at Turf Moor for nearly nine years, and he has now committed his future to the Clarets until the summer of 2025. Dyche’s success with Burnley - who are playing in the top-flight for a sixth consecutive season - has seen him linked with moves to a number of other clubs. New owners ALK Capital made securing Dyche’s services for the long term one of their main stated priorities and that has now been achieved, with assistant Ian Woan also signing for the same period. “The new ownership made it clear when they first came in that they wanted me to be part of it,” said Dyche. “It was a very challenging season last season and I explained that I felt the team was first, and to clear the situation up I felt it was best we secured our Premier League status, which we did. “And then really talks have been ongoing, very open, mainly with Alan (Pace) about the situation, and then tidying up at the end through lawyers, like you generally have to do with these contracts. “It was never particularly in doubt to be honest. It was very probable from the offset.” The new owners backed Dyche with the funds to bring in Maxwel Cornet from Lyon along with Nathan Collins from Stoke and Connor Roberts from Swansea in the summer transfer window. “We’re trying to reshape the squad over the next few windows,” he added. “It’s something I tried to put in process in the middle of the last board, it wasn’t easy, so we’re kind of playing catch-up a little bit. “We’ve certainly made what I think is a good start. Altering the age band that the group’s working in while also believing in the group, because I think we’ve got a strong group.” The Clarets take on Arsenal - who picked up their first points of the campaign with a 1-0 victory over Norwich last weekend – on Saturday. Burnley fans will have to wait to see whether Cornet will be involved for the first time after being an unused substitute at Goodison Park. “The Premier League is different, physically,” said Dyche. “We’ve had our testing protocols, which we do with every player, and he fared reasonably well but there’s still a little bit more to go in getting used to the group. “He’s certainly available but pitching him in at the right time is important. We’re here to make these players, not break them.” The Clarets’ physical approach came under scrutiny in Monday night's defeat at Everton, with one tackle from James Tarkowski on Richarlison criticised by Gary Neville among others. It is water off a duck’s back to Dyche, who said: “I think generally fans are enjoying that there’s a bit more physicality. “We just want the team to play really hard and really fair against anyone we play against. I think that was our 97th (consecutive) game without a red card. Tragically ugly we must be.”
Ralph Hasenhuttl

#PLStories- #RalphHasenhuttl says #ArmandoBroja is ready for Premier League start #SAINTSFC

ARMANDO Broja is among the players Ralph Hasenhuttl has admitted is ready for a Premier League start, but the boss insists: “It is not about who deserves to play, it is about what we need.” The 20-year-old Albanian frontman changed the game from the substitutes bench after his St Mary’s introduction against West Ham, where within minutes he had rattled the post, had a header cleared off the line and made general mincemeat of Hammers’ defenders. The impressive cameo has led to many suggesting that he could be in from the off, a suggestion which Hasenhuttl admits isn’t unfounded. But the Austrian has moved to confirm that what he believes the team needs to get the best result reigns supreme, and with a rebuttal that could suggest Broja might have to wait for a second-half chance once again. On whether Broja is ready, Hasenhuttl said: “Yes. I think we have a few players who are ready to start in the Premier League. The good thing is that I have the choice now. “Last season, if you were fit you would have played. This season we have a lot of quality and things that we can try. It is not about who deserves to play, it is about what we need in these games.” Che Adams, who started each of the first three Premier League matches, didn’t make it onto the pitch last weekend after he had returned from international duty with Scotland, and will also be waiting in the wings hopeful that he can offer the team something. Given the immediate impact that fellow Chelsea academy star Tino Livramento has made, it’s no surprise that many are already excited about the potential for Broja to perform at the highest level this campaign – particularly after a prolific spell in the Dutch Eredivisie as a warm-up last year. Hasenhuttl added: “I told the players today that it will sometimes seem unfair when they have a good game and then are not playing but when you need something different, you change. “I don’t want to speak too much about what we have planned but surprising Pep (Guardiola), it doesn’t take long for him to work it out and counter it. “We are ready for this battle and the goal is to keep the game open for as long as possible.”
Sean Dyche Burnley

#PLStories- Burnley boss #SeanDyche signs new long-term deal at Turf Moor #BURNLEYFC

Burnley boss Sean Dyche has signed a new deal at Turf Moor which runs until the end of the 2024-25 season. Dyche, the longest-serving manager in the Premier League, joined the Clarets in 2012 and has achieved two promotions from the Championship. He also led the club to European qualification for the first time in 51 years after finishing seventh in the 2017/18 campaign. Assistant manager Ian Woan has also extended his stay with the Clarets. “It is nice to be able to get this deal completed and now look towards the future of this football club, and its constant evolution,” said the Burnley boss. “I have a strong affinity with the area and our supporters after so many years here and I look forward to putting in the hard work needed to keep the club moving in the right direction. “It was an important summer for us to add talent and depth to the team, but the work doesn’t stop there. As a club we’re about developing and improving players and the environment we foster here is so important to that. “I am looking forward to continuing to develop that environment, work with a great group of players and coaches and to build on the positive relationship with our new ownership headed up by Alan.” Chairman Alan Pace is delighted to have secured Dyche's long-term future. “As I’ve said many times before, we are huge fans of what Sean has achieved at this club,” he added. “We were delighted to be able to offer Sean backing in the transfer market this summer and continue the evolution of this team, as part of our wider growth strategy for the club. “It was important for everyone to get this deal over the line and look towards the club’s future starting with this current Premier League season. "I look forward to working closely with Sean and his team over the coming seasons as we seek to raise the bar and build on the solid foundations that have been laid over the past nine years.”
Andrew Omobamidele

#PLStories- Advantage #AndrewOmobamidele in the battle for centre-back starting berths #NCFC

Please shareAfter a frantic contest had drawn to a close and various officials from both Arsenal and Norwich City gathered around to complete their post-match duties, one man still stood out as the calmest in the Emirates Stadium.Surprisingly that man was a 19-year-old, who months ago was known to very few but suddenly has been catapulted into global recognition on the international stage and in the Premier League. “It’s been a great week,” said Andrew Omobamidele, the composed teenager in question. “A week that I dreamt of since I started playing football, obviously with the international stage and then here (at the Emirates). Hopefully, I’ll get more moments like this. “This is the level that I want to play at. These are the type of opposition that I want to be playing week in, week out, throughout my whole career hopefully. To be playing them at a young age is a valuable experience.” Saturday may have been dreamy for the Irishman in one way, but he was speaking following a 1-0 loss, his pointless side’s fourth defeat of the season. Individual milestones may be satisfying but success is the priority, as Omobamidele highlighted: “It was a disappointing end. Some parts of the game we dominated and the boys at the back defended well on crosses, there’s a lot of positives. I know it’s early on and it’s a fresh defeat but I think there’s a lot of positives that we can take.” While disappointed, the centre-back was clearly keen to view the loss with optimism and in doing so will surely take note of his own performance, an excellent display and arguably the best of any Norwich centre-back this campaign. Club captain Grant Hanley, previously consistently solid, has endured a difficult start to the season as he adapts his aggressive ball-winning game to smarter Premier League forwards, and while the Scotland international looks crude and reactive, Omobamidele’s composure has been a breath of fresh air for the Canaries. Never did City’s number 44 look flustered or rushed and dealt with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s direct style very well. No performance is entirely unblemished in football, but Omobamidele did well to learn from his mistakes. In the early stages, Aubameyang did come close to catching Tim Krul out after his marker was caught far too high up the pitch, but more cautious positioning from the Norwich defender ensured that such a situation was not repeated. Omobamidele held firm as Arsenal pressure increased, and looked more comfortable in a set shape than on the run; after a hectic start the game had calmed down and he was part of a deep backline in a 10-strong block rather than a two-on-one battle with the Gambian. Also impressive was Omobamidele’s ability on the ball. With the Irishman in the side, City looked far more capable and assured when bringing the ball out from the back than they had in the prior three league games, and the Gunners’ clear ploy to direct all traffic towards Hanley highlighted their knowledge of his defensive partner’s strengths. However, football is a results business and because the ball bounced fortuitously off a stricken Nicolas Pepe and into Aubameyang’s path, Omobamidele’s excellent performance will largely be forgotten. Thankfully for the youngster, his head coach’s eye for detail won’t allow the same attitude to creep into team selection, and just as well given the competition. Potential record signing and Ozan Kabak is yet to appear in a yellow shirt while Omobamidele has already eased out half of the greatest City defensive duo in a number of years. It’s a testament to both the Irishman’s quality and Stuart Webber’s transfer dealings that two weeks ago Hanley and Ben Gibson appeared the clear top two in the starting stakes. Rotation may also work in Omobamidele’s favour as he looks to gain top-level experience. It’s a tool Daniel Farke is aware he’ll have to use, despite not being entirely keen on heavy tinkering. “It won’t be that we have 11 changes between each and every game because that wouldn’t be healthy for the group if we changed too much, especially in central positions,” Farke said following the Arsenal defeat, “but we have to be a bit more pragmatic and a bit more flexible perhaps than last season when we were dominating game after game.” Omobamidele will hope that his performances earn him exemption from that rotation – in the same way that Teemu Pukki and Emi Buendia’s performances have earned them automatic starting places – when previously it had looked like his best chance at some Premier League minutes. There’s still a long way to go and the Irish international will have to step his performances up another level to achieve that status, but after a slow start from his in-house competitors, City’s latest teenage superstar has more than taken the initiative. Sean Dyche Burnley

#PLStories- Burnley boss #SeanDyche verdict on Everton Premier League defeat #BURNLEYFC

Burnley boss Sean Dyche was left ruing “a mad six minutes” as his side were beaten 3-1 by Everton at Goodison Park. Ben Mee – who made his 200th top-flight appearance - put the Clarets in front with an emphatic header from Johann Berg Gudmundsson’s cross early in the second half. But the hosts hit back through ex-Burnley defender Michael Keane before Andros Townsend scored a stunner from distance and Demarai Gray added a third on the break. It is the third time Dyche’s men have dropped points from a winning position this season and leaves the Clarets still searching for a first league win of the campaign. “I was very pleased up to the goal as we controlled a lot of the game away from home,” said the Burnley chief. “We conceded an awkward first and then after that (it was) the madness of football. We have a mad six minutes and the game has got away from you. “That is something we have to get a grip of as it has happened twice this season with the Brighton game.” The Clarets are back in action on Saturday afternoon when they welcome Arsenal to Turf Moor (KO 3pm).
