#PLStories- Bjorn Hamberg reveals how absent Graham Potter helped Brighton during the match #BHAFC

This is how the technical area looked for Albion yesterday as they picked up an away draw. Bjorn Hamberg took charge of the team at Leicester City. Head coach Graham Potter was ruled out after testing positive for Covid. His assistant Billy Reid, who was due to step in, himself tested positive on Saturday. Hamberg was assisted by Bruno while Potter supervised from home. Under-23s coach Andrew Crofts joined the analysis team at the King Power. Hamberg told The Argus: “Graham had a direct feed from the game to his house. “He felt well enough to be a part of it and obviously it was really good for us. “He was always in touch with a couple of the coaches here, not myself. “Anything Graham wanted changed, anything Graham thought, I had that information in ten seconds. “He wasn’t here but be played his part and you know what he’s like, he’s a top manager. I thought it worked well. “We had a great support staff around so it worked smoothly, no problem.”

And his strong partnership with head coach Graham Potter is a good reason for that confidence. The 58-year-old Glaswegian will take charge against Leicester at the King Power with Potter isolating at home. The two men will be in close contact ahead of and during the game. They were due to talk tactics and selection last night. But they will have a good idea anyway of what each other are thinking after working together down the years in Sweden and the Championship before arriving at Albion getting on for three years ago. Reid said: “Graham was Ostersunds manager for a couple of years when he called me. “Graeme Jones, who is on the coaching staff at Newcastle, put the two of us together. “I wasn’t sure about going to Sweden at my age, if I’m honest, but I was really impressed when I met Graham. “I knew from my first impression that he was a real thinker about football and a guy who was a cut above the level he was working at then, which was second tier in Sweden. “His man management is fantastic and it has been a privilege to work with him and a real learning curve for me personally. “I feel comfortable with Graham. He involves me in everything. “I was manager at Hamilton for eight years, so I know what to expect but obviously the Premier League is a step up. “We’ll try and keep things as normal as possible and prepare for a tough game at Leicester on Sunday. “I think we are all different characters, that is for sure. Bjorn (Hamberg) has been part of the team since I have been here and I think he has worked with Graham for going on nine years. “He is one of the coaches, one of the analysts, and he feeds us in everything we do. “Bjorn does the defensive stuff. He concentrates on that, by in large. But he also gets involved in team intentions, like myself and Graham.” Potter and Reid saw their side draw with Chelsea on Tuesday and were in the East Midlands 24 hours later. It appeared they were witnessing a 2-1 win for Leicester, albeit against the run of play, until Tottenham scored twice deep in added time. That cave-in was not necessarily good news for Albion. Reid said: “We were at the Spurs game on Wednesday when it looked as if they were going to win, then they lost it in the last 30 seconds. “But that will make them more ready for us. “I’m sure Leicester will be hurting. “They have a lot of injuries and players on international duty but they will be dangerous. “Brendan Rodgers’ teams are always organised and they are a top-eight team. We will have to be at our best. “I know Brendan and his assistant Chris Davies from their time at Celtic when he won everything. “Since he went into Leicester he’s made a big impression. “We’re going up against some top coaches, make no mistake about that. “They are capable of scoring goals. “They are probably leaking more goals at the moment but whoever plays, they will still have a strong squad available.” Tottenham’s comeback left them unbeaten in their last six Prem games, one more than Albion. But the Seagulls are happy enough with their recent run. Still, three draws out of five – and 11 now for the season - mean there is always room for improvement. BRIGHTON BOSS PLEASED TO SEE YVES BISSOUMA BACK ON BIG STAGE Reid said: “We make ourselves hard to beat first and foremost but we believe our performance levels in the last six or seven games have stepped up. “If we continue doing that, some of these draws will turn into wins. “On Tuesday there was a real belief we could win. “But going behind and equalising made it a good point – the lads are in a good place at the moment.”

The Albion midfielder is absent from Premier League action this weekend as he plays for his country. He has made a big impact after rejoining the squad. Albion assistant boss Billy Reid is a huge admirer of Bissouma, who is understood to be attracting interest around the Premier League. Reid said: “First of all I am delighted after three years he is now playing for his nation. “To play in the Africa Nations Cup is a big, big thing for all the African players. “He is a super player, he should be there. “It’s great to watch on the TV and his country qualifying for the next round. “He’s a great lad, Yves, I’ve got a lot of time for him. “Hopefully Mali can go on and do well in the tournament.” Mali face Equatorial Guinea on Wednesday in the round of 16. Gabon take on Burkina Faso tomorrow. Albion under-23s striker Ulrick Eneme Ella is with the Gabon squad but missed their final group game due to a positive Covid test.

#PLStories- Liverpool issues statement after former chief executive Peter Robinson passes away #BHAFC #LFC

Peter Robinson worked with Liverpool from 1965 to 2000 and oversaw the team win 29 trophies. Prior to his time at Anfield, he had previously worked at Brighton and Hove Albion, Stockport County and Scunthorpe United. The 86-year-old, who worked with managers including Bill Shankly and Kenny Dalglish, died on Wednesday, January 19. A statement from Liverpool on their website said: "Liverpool FC is deeply saddened by the passing of former club secretary and chief executive Peter Robinson. "Robinson was a pivotal behind-the-scenes figure at Anfield throughout a 35-year spell, which began shortly before the Reds’ first FA Cup triumph in 1965, when he joined as club secretary following jobs at Stockport County, Crewe Alexandra, Scunthorpe United and Brighton and Hove Albion. "In close and constructive partnership with chairman John Smith, he oversaw a modernisation of the club’s administrative operations with the objective of freeing managers to focus on their top priority: winning on the pitch. "He and Smith were closely involved in player recruitment during an era when the Reds repeatedly achieved masterstrokes in the transfer market. "And the pair drove forward improvements at Anfield, including a new Main Stand and floodlighting – under which so many special nights would unfold – in the early 1970s. "It was a set-up that helped to deliver overwhelming success as Liverpool became a dominant force – and trophy-gathering machine – first at home and then on the continent."

He saw his side come from behind at half-time to secure a point through Adam Webster’s header. As against Crystal Palace on Friday and in the recent draw at Stamford Budge, the point was the least they deserved. Potter said his side knew they were well in the contest even when they trailed to a goal out of the blue by Hakim Ziyech. He said: “They scored from a little bit out of nothing but the boys’ understanding is good. They are intelligent. “They know they are in the game. They know they are performing well. “It is just about keeping that going, try and enjoy the second half, maintain the positivity and see what we can do. “I thought we had a good start and overall I am just so happy for the players. “They put everything into the game. “Great personality, great spirit on the pitch. “I thought it was a fantastic atmosphere and a good game.”

#PLStories- Graham Potter says he is happy at Brighton amid Everton links #BHAFC #EvertonFC

Graham Potter says he is happy to be working for “one of the best run clubs in the Premier League”. The Albion head coach has again been speculatively linked with Everton after Rafa Benitez was sacked yesterday. But there appears no reason for Albion fans to be concerned about him heading to Merseyside. Potter underlined that when asked about Everton today in his press conference ahead of tomorrow’s visit from Chelsea. Potter said: “It’s not nice when somebody loses their job. “I only met Rafa when we played Everton so I don’t know him that well but he came across as a real gentleman. I wish him well. “I can’t comment on speculation, on things that are out there in the newspapers or wherever. “I am focused on my job here. Repeat – happy here, very happy here with, in my opinion, one of the best run football clubs in the Premier League, with a fantastic owner, chairman, CEO, sports director, great people at the club, a nice environment to work in, an ambitious club. “I just get on with my job here and do my best.” Potter has guided Albion into the top half of the Premier League, helped by a recent win at Goodison. But he is keen to point out that progress has been a collective affair. He said: “The reality is I am at a really good football club who help me. “I am not here because I’m that good, it’s because I am at a good club. “I have good support, I have good people around me, I have people who allow me to do my job, that give me support, that give me trust. “These things are important. “There is an organisation around the club. “The reality of it is we are not as good as people think. #PLStories- Brighton release statement on exit congestion when leaving Amex Stadium #BHAFC

ALBION have released a statement as fans complain of a “scary” situation when leaving the stadium after Brighton’s match against Crystal Palace on Friday. The club said it is aware of “congestion and delays encountered by a number of supporters” leaving the north east corner of the stadium after the match. They apologised for “any inconvenience caused” and said the club monitored congestion from their control room and directed police and staff to the area as quickly as possible to help ease it. Fans described being “hemmed in the north stand in an uncomfortable crowd for far too long” and said there were also problems with crowding outside. The club’s statement read: “The club is aware of the congestion and delays encountered by a number of supporters leaving the north east corner of the stadium after Friday’s match against Crystal Palace. “We wish to apologise for any inconvenience caused, and to thank fans for their patience. “Working with the police, the club’s operations staff were monitoring the congestion on CCTV monitors from the stadium control room at all times, and were able to direct staff and police on the ground to ease the congestion as quickly and as safely as possible. “When special stadium egress measures such as those for Friday's game are implemented, staff must manage an ever-changing and dynamic situation. As usual, all plans will be reviewed and, where necessary, refined for future matches.” Firstly thank you for those who attended the game tonight. I am aware of some issues that occurred in the north stand area on egress. We will sit down with the club review CCTV and look to see what the cause was. — PC Darren Balkham (@SuspolBHAFC) January 15, 2022   A fan, who walked around from the west stand, said: "It was a total farce. We left the WSU headed for the coach park, but went around the north stand instead of going around the south as instructed, only to meet a huge crowd around the east side that wasn’t moving and getting busier and busier. No instruction, just confusion." Another fan who was stuck outside the east stand said it was a “very scary and dangerous situation for children and the elderly”. On the night, PC Darren Balkham, Brighton’s liaison officer said: “Firstly thank you for those who attended the game tonight. I am aware of some issues that occurred in the north stand area on egress. We will sit down with the club review CCTV and look to see what the cause was.” Have you got a story for us? Bissouma is away with Mali while rumours circulate of interest from other clubs. Potter was asked about him after the win over West Brom. He replied: “We’re comfortable with where we’re at, we know the situation. “From my perspective, I’m just trying to help him when he comes back from the AFCON to perform to his best. When he does that he is a top player. “We understand the way the market is, the way football is, we understand where we are in the football pyramid. #PLStories- Graham Potter praises team efforts in FA Cup win versus West Brom #BHAFC

Graham Potter said he was happy with Albion’s comeback from a goal down to beat West Brom 2-1 in the FA Cup third round this afternoon. Albion fielded a strong side but found themselves one nil down before substitute Jakub Moder levelled the scores with a cool near-post finish 81 minutes in. Brighton were denied by former keeper David Button on several occasions. But Neal Maupay secured the victory in extra time to continue his strong form and take Albion into the next round of the cup. The opening stages saw West Brom put Albion under pressure, with Potter’s side taking some time to find their rhythm with a slightly rotated team. Danny Welbeck was played in by Pascal Gross but saw his effort saved by David Button one-on-one. Meanwhile Enock Mwepu came off in the first half with a suspected hamstring injury and was replaced by Alexis Mac Allister. Neal Maupay also had a glorious chance when he was poked through by Welbeck, but the Frenchman was denied by Button on the verge of half time to keep it all square. It would not take long for West Brom to ruffle some Albion feathers, with Karlan Grant slipping a ball into Callum Robinson who slotted past Scherpen just two minutes into the second half. Albion were given a life line back into the game 69 minutes in when Cedric Kipre was sent off for two yellow cards in the space of a couple of minutes, the second for a pull on Trossard’s shirt. Two Albion substitutes combined when 17-year-old Evan Ferguson played a ball into Jakub Moder, who finished expertly at the front post past David Button. Cucurella’s introduction also made a noticeable difference on the left-hand side. Ferguson almost scored a first senior goal when he was played in and dinked just over, with the ball landing on the roof of the net. Evan Ferguson looked sharp on his senior debut Albion continued to apply the pressure to West Brom with David Button making a number of smart saves from Albion’s long range efforts to take the game into extra time. But Albion's one man advantage would pay dividends, Jakub Moder found space on the right-hand side and turned provider with a pass into the area which was well left by Leandro Trossard for Neal Maupay, who continued his good recent form with a smart finish into the near post eight minutes into extra time. Evan Ferguson also had a goal pulled back for offside after a pass through from Moder again, but the youngster strayed well offside. The closing stages of the match were straight-forward for Potter’s men, who were left with an abundance of space against West Brom’s tiring legs. Potter applauds Albion's travelling support who were in fine voice Potter said they knew it would be a tough match but he was happy to progress in the cup. He said: “It was hard work, we thought it would be and knew it would be because of West Brom’s quality and style of play. They’re very competitive so we had to compete with that, which we did. “We conceded against the run of play I thought from pretty much their only chance and the response was good. But in the end, really nice to go through and I’m happy to go through. “We will try our best in the FA Cup, it was important for us to go through today, we wanted to win. We picked a team with that in mind, to win. “As you can see from results in the competition, it’s not straightforward but we had a good mentality. The away support was fantastic and we’re delighted to go through.” The fourth round draw for the FA Cup takes place after tomorrow’s games at 4.50pm.
Enock Mwepu Brighton

#PLStories- Enock Mwepu gives insight to his passes and goals for Brighton #BHAFC

And it is one which has helped him contribute to three goals since Christmas Day. Mwepu does a few different things in various areas around a football pitch. But, as he starts to grow and express himself, we are seeing more of what he dubbed the ‘Ninkumona’ pass when he developed the skill as a young player in Zambia. Premier League fans have seen it in full effect on two of the recent goals he has helped create for team-mates. Mwepu is suddenly joint top of the Albion assist chart with three in the league. As often in football, ‘assist’ is an imperfect stat. Alexis Mac Allister’s delivery helped Dan Burn score at Everton just as much as Mwepu’s flick. And there was plenty still for Leandro Trossard and Mac Allister to do when they scored against Brentford and Everton respectively. But the disguised passes left them in room – and they knew they would be spotted, even though he was looking the other way. Mwepu told The Argus: “Ninkumona means ‘I’ve seen you’. “In Zambia I used to assist a lot playing in the under-17s, under-20s. “I named it that. If you see the goal against Brentford and also in Cardiff (by Jakub Moder), such passes are the ones that show the Ninkumona. “It’s the sort of pass that comes from nowhere, where people don’t expect it. “Those are the moments when I look at the movement of my teammate and I try to make that pass and it just astonishes everybody. “It was from way back when I was in the under-20s, even younger.” Mwepu delighted fans with his subtle little lay-off of Trossard’s low cross to tee up Mac Allister at Goodison. It looked better the more you watched it. He said: “When I saw Leo have the ball, I got in my position and so many people said I didn’t even look at Alexis. “But before Leo played the ball to me I saw he was in a good position to shoot so when the ball was coming, I just had to lay it off. “I had to think about how to lay it off to him and that was the only way I could do it - and I think it worked!” Mwepu accepts he is flying the flag for his country, along with Leicester striker Patson Daka. The arrival of both – in the run-up to an election - saw the nation’s president and main political rival issue well-wishing tweets. Mwepu says he does not feel additional pressure and responsibility because of it. He added: “I think for me it is just pride. “Even the president wrote me a message, it is pride that I represent the country “I think everyone is happy at what I have achieved and that is something amazing for me.” Predecessors from Zambia have not been such big hits in the Prem so what does Mwepu see as a key reason for his early impact in a tough league? He said: “I think it is the discipline aspect and the mentality. “I am very disciplined in what I do. “I always want to act professional and I always have the right mentality in most of the things that I do. “I try to inspire the Zambians who think they can also achieve great things in football and other aspects. “I jut try to be that icon for them and show them that they can achieve all they want to achieve.” PREMIUM: HOW POTTER AND HUGHTON HAVE RUNG CUP CHANGES Next for Mwepu is the FA Cup. He admits playing in the final – as he watched his favourite team Liverpool do on TV back home - would be a dream. DANNY WELBECK LIKELY TO FACE WEST BROM IN FA CUP (Later he laughs as he says he still watches that goal he scored at Anfield every day.) But cup football has already been important for Mwepu this season, with that performance at Cardiff and a first goal at Leicester. LORENT TOLAJ ON TARGET AGAIN FOR ALBION He said: “For me those games were really important. “We were trying to progress as a team and unfortunately we lost at Leicester. “But for me it gave me more minutes. “I think the confidence was there because of those games.”

#PLStories- Graham Potter confirms Promising Brighton midfielder Taylor Richards has joined Championship side Birmingham City on loan #BHAFC

ALBION youngster Taylor Richards has joined Birmingham City on loan until the end of the season. The 21-year-old attacking midfielder becomes the latest young player to make the move to the Championship. Head coach Graham Potter said, "Taylor has been with the first-team squad for the first part of the season, he has benefitted from that time and he has made great progress during that time. "He has played in the Carabao Cup ties and also made his Premier League debut, but we feel it is now important for him to play regular football during the second half of the season and he will get that opportunity with Birmingham, a club I know well." He scored 11 goals and contributed five assists in 48 appearances during a highly successful spell at Rovers in League One. Richards, who joined Albion in 2019 from Manchester City, has also represented England at under-17 level. He made his Premier League debut as a substitute in the home match against Everton earlier this season, and has made five first-team appearances for Albion.

#PLStories- Brighton boss Graham Potter warns of West Brom threat #BHAFC #WBAFC

Albion have been warned not to get too far ahead of themselves with thoughts of FA Cup glory. They kick off their campaign away to Championship high-flyers West Brom tomorrow. The Baggies are unbeaten at home in the league with seven wins and five draws. Seagulls boss Graham Potter said: “It’s a great club, West Brom. “I had three-and-a-bit years there so I know the people of the area. They are great supporters and back their team. “From an on-the-pitch perspective they are going through a bit of a transition with a new coach, a new style of play, but they are still up there competing to be in the Premier League and I think they will get better the longer they work together. “I am impressed with West Brom as a club. “They are a football club that have probably had too many head coaches recently, so they are going through a little bit of a transition with Valerien (Ismael) and how that style develops will take a little bit of time to see the full potential of everything. “But not so long ago they were in the Premier League. “They have still got a few of those players and will add a few more to supplement their ideas. “They are giving a few young players a chance as well, so they are moving in the right direction.” Albion won 3-1 after extra-time in a replay at the Hawthorn three years ago on their way to the semi-final. With no obvious relegation worries as things stand, Potter was asked whether they can give the cup “a really good go” this term. GRAHAM POTTER HAPPY WITH BRIGHTON STRIKER OPTIONS He said: “We will have a really good go at beating West Brom, because we’re in a good moment. “But we play a side who I am sure want to progress. “We will respect our opponent, we will try our best to go through. “It’s West Brom at the Hawthorns in the FA Cup, it’s by no means an easy game.”
Leo Ostigard

DEFENDER Leo Ostigard has been recalled from his spell with Stoke City and is moving to Serie A side Genoa on loan for the rest of the season. The 22-year-old made 13 Championship appearances for the Potters, scoring once in a 3-1 victory at Swansea City. Albion's pathway development manager David Weir said: “Leo has made excellent progress during his loan spells in the second tier in Germany and here in the Championship, with Coventry and Stoke, but this gives him the chance to play at the top level. “It is an excellent opportunity to play in the top division of Italian football, against some of Europe's top teams, and we will be monitoring his progress out in Italy.” Ostigard signed for Albion from Molde in 2018, before spending the 2019/20 campaign on loan with German second division side St Pauli. That was followed by a successful 2020/21 campaign with Coventry City, where he helped Mark Robins’ side maintain their Championship status having returned to the second tier after an eight-year absence.

#PLStories- Brighton confirm new deal for promising young goalkeeper Carl Rushworth #BHAFC

ALBION have confirmed that goalkeeper Carl Rushworth has signed a new contract with the club until June 2025. The 20-year-old is currently on a season long loan with League Two Walsall, where he has kept eight clean sheets in 28 games in all competitions. Technical director Dan Ashworth said, "Carl has continued to impress us with his development since joining the club in 2019 and he fully deserves this new contract. "He has trusted the pathway we have put him on, starting with a really positive loan with Worthing, followed by a year with the under-23s and is now testing and proving himself in League Two with Walsall. Carl Rushworth, credit BHAFC/ Paul Hazlewood "This season was about Carl showing what he has learned so far and building on that. We’re pleased to see that he is flourishing." Albion's first-team goalkeeping coach Ben Roberts said: "Carl has been a breath of fresh air since joining the club from Halifax Town, and relished every challenge that has come his way. "He is a consummate professional on and off the field, with a real dedication to his craft. He epitomises what we look for from the modern, in-possession goalkeeper, and look forward to supporting his development in the years to come." Rushworth is currently on loan at Walsall The keeper came through the ranks with Huddersfield Town, before joining Halifax Town in 2017. He signed for Albion in January 2019 and spent the 2019/20 season on loan in the Isthmian League Premier Division with Worthing. A campaign with Albion under-23s followed, and he capped that by winning the club's Men's Young Player of the Year Award. He signed for the Saddlers at the beginning of this season, and his form with Matt Taylor’s men was rewarded with a call-up to the England under-21s squad in October.

#PLStories- Graham Potter sends message to Brighton after great week #BHAFC

The Seagulls picked up seven points in eight days, culminating in a late rearguard action to protect a well-deserved lead at Everton. They go to West Bromwich Albion in the third round of the cup on Saturday. Head coach Potter said: “They have put a lot in over a week. “It has been a heavy week so we will need a couple days to recover and refocus and recharge for an important game in the FA Cup at the weekend. BRIGHTON PLAYER RATINGS IN 3-2 WIN AT EVERTON “We’re in a good moment and good place but the guys will take the time to recover and be ready.” Solly March, who scored in the third round last season, Shane Duffy and Pascal Gross would appear prime candidates for playing time at the Hawthorns, along with back-up goalkeeper Jason Steele.
Dan Burn

#PLStories- Brighton’s Dan Burn enjoys trips to Chelsea and Everton #CHELSEAFC #BHAFC #EVERTONFC

And it is not just the usual suspects doing the goalscoring damage. Alexis Mac Allister scored two and Dan Burn converted a set-piece to secure the 3-2 win at Everton. That first ever success at Goodison followed victory and a draw from trips to Anfield within the last year. It was the first time the Seagulls had won without a goal from Neal Maupay, Leandro Trossard or Danny Welbeck since success at Liverpool the previous season. Steven Alzate hit the winner that night. Back at Anfield this season, Enock Mwepu scored so far his only Premier League goal. He added two assists at Goodison on Sunday to move on to three for the campaign. In fact, all but one win since Liverpool last term has featured a goal by either Maupay or Trossard. You need to add in Welbeck, or Pascal Gross, at home to Leeds last term to make the sequence stretch all the way from Anfield ten months ago to the other side of Stanley Park. No Albion player scored twice in a Premier League game throughout 2021. Mac Allister did it in the first fixture of the New Year. (Only two opponents scored twice against the Seagulls in 2021, Nicolas Pepe and Phil Foden, before Anthony Gordon emulated them on Sunday). But Graham Potter was keen to also mention the set-piece strike when he spoke via Zoom after the game. It has been rather bewildering how few goals Albion score from set plays. They do not have much height up front in general play. But there are some potentially dominant characters who can rumble forward for corners and free-kicks. Not least Lewis Dunk and Shane Duffy, who nets for the Republic of Ireland. There is also the potential for decent delivery from players such as Gross and Mac Allister. Three of Albion’s six wins to date have featured a headed goal from a set-piece – versus Watford, Leicester and now Everton. But rarely do their ploys work as well as that which saw Mac Allister deliver, Mwepu help the ball on and Burn score from close range. Burn told BBC Radio Sussex: “We haven’t got many from set-pieces this season. “I don’t score many headers so it was nice to get one. “It gives us confidence. Now every set-piece we get, hopefully we will think we are going to score.” BRIGHTON URGED TO REST AFTER TOUGH WEEK Albion now have four set-piece goals, more than only three teams - including Everton on three. The Seagulls have conceded six from set plays while only two sides have let in more than Everton, who were breached for the eighth time on Sunday. Toffees manager Rafa Benitez said: “We were practising specifically these kind of corners and how to defend them. “We made mistakes. We know how and what we have to do but it’s not the time to point figures. We have to accept the mistake as a group.” Burn was not complaining. The tough week was a personal triumph for him. Yes, there were challenging moments against Romelu Lukaku. Couldn’t the Chelsea striker have upset Thomas Tuchel a couple of days earlier? But Burn got better as that duel went on and enjoyed his tussle with returning Dominic Calvert-Lewin at Goodison. Burn’s opening 45 minutes of 2021, at home to Wolves, were among his toughest for the club. His opening 90 of 2022 might have been his best. He said of his tussles with the big men: “You don’t really play against strikers like that in the Premier League. “It was more when I was coming through League One, League Two and stuff so it was a bit of a throwback. “I have enjoyed it. It has been a good battle this week.”

Albion won the game through Alexis Mac Allister, who opened the scoring just three minutes in after latching on to a cushioned Neal Maupay header. The Argentine helped double Brighton’s lead when he swung in a corner which was flicked on by Enock Mwepu to give Dan Burn an easy header at the far post. Albion saw out a dominant first half despite a fortunate penalty miss from Dominic Calvert-Lewin. But Rafa Benitez’s side came out with a point to prove, with Everton academy graduate, Anthony Gordon, clawing one back with a deflected shot early in the second half. Alexis Mac Allister would ease nerves once again with a superb half volley 71 minutes in, before Gordon applied the pressure again with a tidy finish at the near post just five minutes later. Albion players mob Alexis Mac Allister after his second strike of the game, picture by Richard Parkes Albion held their nerve and saw out the game to secure a first win at Goodison Park in the Premier League, having previously lost on all four previous visits to Merseyside. Graham Potter said: “It’s a fantastic three points. It is a great start to the new year and a great end to a really big week for us. “Obviously three points against Brentford, a point and good performance against Chelsea and a good performance here today which historically is not an easy place to come to. “I thought we played well first in the first half, then the goal that we didn’t want changes the atmosphere of the game in the ground and you have to see that out, and we did that quite well.” Albion take on West Brom away in the FA Cup on Saturday, with Valérien Ismaël’s side sitting fourth in the Championship. #PLStories- Brighton boss Graham Potter open minded over striker’s future #BHAFC

ALBION boss Graham Potter is "open-minded" when it comes to the future of striker Jurgen Locadia. The striker has found game time hard to come by this season, having only played 187 minutes in four appearances in all competitions this season. Locadia spent last season out on loan and was expected by many to leave the club on the permanent deal during the summer but ended up staying and becoming part of the squad. The manager admitted that the club will do what it is best for Locadia in the January transfer window. Jurgen Locadia joined Brighton and Hove Albion in 2018 He said: "Like all the players who have been limited in game time, you've got to look at what is best for them when the window opens. "Jurgen has been great since he's come back, working hard, working for the team. "We're open-minded and we will see." The 28-year-old joined Albion in January 2018 for a reported fee of £15 million, but has struggled to establish himself at the club and has only scored three league goals since the transfer.

#PLStories- Graham Potter predicts ‘big future’ for promising young academy striker #BHAFC

ALBION boss Graham Potter has predicted that young striker Evan Ferguson has a "big future" ahead of him. The 17-year-old has been in good form for the academy side, having scored nine goals in only 16 appearances this season. There have even been calls from fans for the Irishman to be given a chance in the Premier League side to help with the club's forward line. Ferguson has made his debut for the first team this season in the Carabao Cup and has been named on the bench in the Premier League squad in three different games. Evan Ferguson has been in fine form this season However, he is yet to make his Premier League debut, but Potter believes that the experience of being with the first team is good for the promising youngster. The Albion manager said: "It's great for him, he's a young guy, but he's got a big future I think. "I've been really impressed with him in training, he's got really good movement, you can see his qualities, his goals, they are not by accident that's for sure, he knows where to be in the box and around the defenders. "The more he is with us, the better he will get. "The guys in the academy have done a fantastic job with him, now it's about the next stage. "We need to take it at the right pace for him, but while he's in the first team it's a great experience for him.

#PLStories- Graham Potter raves about Marc Cucurella making an impact in Premier League #BHAFC

It wasn't quite a two-horse race in the man of the match stakes when Albion drew at Chelsea. There was a third runner to keep an eye on - runner being the operative word. Former Chelsea midfielder Andy Townsend gave the nod to Romelu Lukaku in the 1-1 draw as he offered co-commentary on Amazon Prime Video. Hearing that was not necessarily a surprise for those of us who were not watching the match on TV. After all, aren’t these choices often made a few minutes from the end of the game, not right on the final whistle? Presumably Townsend had made his selection when it seemed Lukaku had scored the only goal of the contest. When you realised he actually made the call after Albion had secured their well-deserved point, it became harder to justify him not going for their driving force Yves Bissouma. In theory of course, the fact Danny Welbeck headed in a cross should not really affect your judgment of 90-minute performances by Lukaku and Bissouma. But that is sort of how it works. However, there was another very strong contender. And he had chipped in a pinpoint cross for his second important intervention in front of one goal or the other in as many games. No one talks much about Marc Cucurella these days. Certainly not in the regular Zoom sessions us reporters have with Graham Potter before and after games. And that speaks highly of how he has settled into his new league and new club. There has not been a huge amount to ask. No dips, no dramas, no absences. He just keeps going. We might have seen him at his best on Wednesday as he returned to West London for the first time since an eye-catching debut at Brentford on September 11. Raiding down the left flank, of course. But also tucking around as part of a three in defence which allowed Tariq Lamptey to play as a wing-back when Albion had possession in what was a pretty daring set-up, showing massive but justified faith in Dan Burn and Joel Veltman. And then the precision in added time with a sort of scooped, wedged cross on to the head of Welbeck, who did the rest. So now really was the time as Potter appeared on our laptop screens from the depths of the old East Stand at Stamford Bridge. Your assessment of the progress and adaptation made by Marc Cucurella, please. Potter told The Argus: “He has been fantastic. I can’t speak highly enough of him. “As a character he has been top since he has come. “A breath of fresh air, great enthusiasm. Great desire to play football, to run, to run off the ball, to tackle, everything you want. Supporters must love him.” But has he progressed in any particular aspect? “It’s just adapting to the country, adapting to the league. “I think his first game was away at Brentford. “It was a bit of a ‘welcome to English football’ type thing. But he has adapted. “That’s why he came here. “He wanted to take that challenge, he has got the personality, he has got the quality.” It was indeed a welcome to England moment, although the old-fashioned whack he took after about five minutes was from his compatriot Sergi Canos. When Albion met Brentford again last week, Cucurella came up with that other key moment in front of goal as he somehow got back to head off the line. Potter said: “Playing in the team will help him. “The more he understands the team, the more we understand him, the better he will get.” One reason Cucurella is not talked about so much in our post-match media sessions might actually be his pace. It gets him back in position before he needs to pull off eye-catching tackles. There was one notable occasion at Chelsea when the home side burst away on a counter in the second half with Cucurella well forward. However he got back quickly and there was no need for anything spectacular. He just got back goalside of his man, slowed him down and made him play a pass inside. Not headline-grabbing or highlight reel stuff but effective defending. Can it take him into the national team? Such is the standing of the Premier League right now, any player performing well, week in and week out, must have a chance of international recognition for any country, surely? His one cap came came when the under-21s were promoted en bloc to fulfil a friendly fixture due to Covid concerns among the seniors ahead of Euro 2020, a decision which delayed Robert Sanchez's debut. "For now Cucu is the fourth or fifth option," said Jordi Gil, who covers Spain for Barcelona-based Diario Sport. "Ahead of him are Jordi Alba, Gaya and Marcos Alonso. "If any of those are injured, they will bring in Reguilon, so it's difficult. OUR BRIGHTON REVIEW OF THE YEAR 2021 "For now he has been called up once by Luis Enrique but without playing. "But we will see. In March there are friendlies against Albania and Iceland and he could look at a few players then. "That's the thing about Lucho (Enrique). With him, you never know!"
Thomas Tuchel

#PLStories- Chelsea boss fumes with referees after being denied penalty against Brighton #CHELSEAFC #BHAFC

CHELSEA manager Thomas Tuchel has hit out at referee Mike Dean for denying Chelsea a “100 per cent penalty” and also a possible goal for Mason Mount against Albion. Tuchel felt Christian Pulisic was definitely fouled in the box after a challenge from Albion defender Joel Veltman in the second half, while Mount rolled the ball into the empty net only to see play brought back for a foul on the Dutchman. He told media after the game: “We have a 100 per cent penalty against Christian Pulisic, a 50-50 challenge from Mason Mount right before their equaliser. Antonio Rudiger was lucky not to be given a red card “Why does he even need to whistle before the ball is over the line? We have VAR to check. Is he so sure or does he want to keep the tension up? “And the penalty, it’s a joke, honestly it’s a joke not to intervene from VAR.” Albion proved full value for their draw amid a madcap encounter, with ex-Arsenal striker Welbeck popping up with the leveller with just his seventh touch having climbed off the bench. Albion manager Graham Potter did not think that Chelsea should have had a penalty. He said: “I’d have to see it back, live I didn’t think it was. I guess that’s why they’ve got VAR. “If it was 100 per cent I think it would be given, I didn’t think it was at the time but I was quite a way away to be honest.” However, Albion were equally denied by the referee as Antonio Rudiger arguably could have seen red for a two-footed challenge on Tariq Lamptey. There was also an elbow from Romelu Lukaku on Neal Maupay which left him with a visibly swore nose in the build-up to the Chelsea goal.

#PLStories- Graham Potter hails team after late goal steals the show against Chelsea #BHAFC #CHELSEAFC

ALBION boss Graham Potter has praised his team's efforts after they earned another point on the road thanks to a last-minute goal. It is becoming a recurring theme in Potter's team to score a late goal and deny their opponents' victory as they have done it against Crystal Palace, West Ham, Southampton and now Chelsea. At Stamford Bridge, Danny Welbeck was the hero as his header snatched a point from the jaws of defeat to see Albion climb back into the top half of the Premier League table. Brighton and Hove Albion striker Danny Welbeck scored the goal against Chelsea Potter however does not think the team's late heroics are down to luck. He told media after the game: "I thought it was a fantastic performance from the players, it was full of courage and full of quality against a top side. "To come here and be ourselves is a big challenge and I thought we were and that is a credit to the players, they were fantastic tonight." The manager admitted that the performance was one of the best away outings the club have had since he joined the club. He said: "We performed well against Liverpool twice away, we have won and drawn there and that is not easy to do. "Tonight was up there that is for sure, we have celebrated a point but I think it is more the performance and the courage that was shown as a group. "I hope it is something we can take forward."
Danny Welbeck

#PLStories- Danny Welbeck happy after late goal earned Brighton point at Chelsea #BHAFC

ALBION striker Danny Welbeck has admitted he is happy to be back with a bang after his last gasp goal against Chelsea. The Seagulls looked set to be beaten by the Blues at Stamford Bridge but Welbeck's 90th-minute header earned Graham Potter's side a valuable point. Despite going behind in the first-half Albion were giving a good account of themselves and improved in the second half and were rewarded for their good work with Welbeck's goal. Welbeck said: "We know the ability in ourselves and we could have produced a bit more in the first half from the chances we created. Brighton and Hove Albion striker Danny Welbeck heads in the equaliser against Chelsea "Obviously in the second half, we kept going and got the goal in the end." The striker is only recently back from injury and is happy to be the one to get the goal that earned Albion the point. Welbeck said: "It is nice to get a goal late on that means something for the team and it has been a while since I have been out on the pitch so it is nice to get back and get back amongst the goals. The striker and his teammates will now prepare for the next match against Everton on News Year's Day and will have plenty of confidence after picking up four points from their last two games. Welbeck said: "There are a lot of positives, we got three points against Brentford and another one tonight and it gives us a good base to go into the game against Everton. "It is one we are looking forward to."

#PLStories- Brighton boss Graham Potter agrees with Jurgen Klopp on subs #BHAFC

Graham Potter wants more help with protecting his playing resources in the pandemic. The Albion head coach has repeated his preference for an increase to five substitutions in Premier League matches. He is carefully monitoring his squad ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Chelsea. Potter withdrew goalscorer Leandro Trossard midway through the Boxing Day win over Brentford due to hamstring tightness. Yves Bissouma will be available after a ban as Albion tackle the second of three games in a week. With Covid still casting a shadow over Prem action, Potter would like the option of making more changes in a game, as was the case during the Restart fixtures. He said: “Our position was always five subs. That was what we voted for. “I was a little surprised that Jordan Henderson is talking about player welfare and even the clubs don’t think about player welfare so what chance have you got? “Our stance was always that and then it is up to the league to decide.” Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been clear in his views on subs but believes he does not have support from most of his Prem counterparts. Klopp said: "You need 14 votes to change it and there’s something wrong. We talk about an issue that some players and clubs definitely have but it’s decided by other teams. That is a real problem. “The best and most intense league in the world is the only league in Europe and maybe the world with still three subs. That is not right. We should change it (but) I don’t see a chance to change it, to be honest.” The Premier League yesterday announced 103 new coronavirus cases among club players and staff, the highest weekly number recorded since testing figures began being circulated in May last year. The league has also confirmed it has reverted to emergency measures following a series of postponements. Increased testing to daily lateral flow and twice-weekly PCR tests have been introduced. Lateral flow testing was previously carried out twice a week. BRIGHTON READY TO MAKE LEANDRO TROSSARD CALL AT CHELSEA Danny Welbeck, who had hamstring surgery and was out for three months, is in contention for playing time at Stamford Bridge after half a game against Brentford. Potter added: “We were planning not to play Danny for so long but in the end he managed the 45 and it’s great to have him back on the pitch.”
Neal Maupay

#PLStories- Neal Maupay reveals reason for subdued reaction to Brighton’s 2-0 win over Brentford #BHAFC

Neal Maupay has revealed why did not celebrate his superb goal against Brentford. The striker found the top corner against his old club to secure a 2-0 success at the Amex. Maupay told Sky Sports: "They are the club who gave me my chance four years ago. Nobody wanted to sign me in France. “They called me and asked me to come over to England. “I didn’t know anything about England. “I respect them so much. Everything they have done for me, everything they have done for a lot of players.” Victory ended a run of 11 without a win, most of which have been drawn. He added: “We haven’t won in a long time. Everyone was talking about it. “It was a good performance overall from the team and we are really happy to get that win finally. “I think it’s crucial for us. When you don’t win in a while people start talking. “All of a sudden you’ve got a bit more pressure, even though we just tried to stay focussed on our goals. “I think that will give us some rest. BRIGHTON 2 BRENTFORD 0 - HOW IT HAPPENED “It’s a busy period, a crazy time. “It’s a good night for us but we need to recover quick and get back to work.

#PLStories- Graham Potter admits uncertainty about playing squad before Brentford game #BHAFC

Graham Potter is hoping for for a healthy Christmas and New Year – starting with his squad as they prepare to face Brentford. The Albion head coach wants no unpleasant surprises ahead of the Boxing Day evening clash at the Amex (8pm, Sky). Two Premier League games have already gone from Sunday’s programme with Liverpool v Leeds and Wolves v Watford postponed after requests from the away teams. Albion will train tomorrow, then allow players home for lunch and family time. Potter is set to welcome back up to five senior players while the return of Shane Duffy from a ban is balanced by Yves Bissouma’s one-match suspension. He said: “I think we'll have a couple not available but obviously we have a couple more days of testing to go so you never know. “That was certainly our experience last week because last week we said four and by the time the game comes around we had more than four.” Potter is happy to play on, despite talk of a possible postponement over Christmas. Managers and head coaches met to discuss player welfare yesterday. Potter said: “I don't really think about it in terms of our situation. “I think that's short-sighted. I think you've got to think what's the best thing, the right thing. PREMIER LEAGUE FIXTURE DEBATE HEATING UP “The people to make that decision should be the league, the health experts. “Some people will think they are better off in the moment, others will think that's a shame. “You just have to trust there is integrity, support it, and do your best to get on with it as best we can.” Potter outlined his plan for the squad ahead of the Brentford game. He said: “We will train in the morning, get the guys in. “As a father of three young lads, I am quite happy for a little bit of a break on Christmas Day. GRAHAM POTTER FEELS FOR FANS OVER KICK-OFF TIME “A chance to get out of the house. A nice excuse for me – although not too long. “They will have the afternoon with the families and lunch. “We will report on Boxing Day for the game. “We might stay over in a hotel for some lunch and a rest to prepare for the match. That’s the plan for the game.”

#PLStories- Graham Potter plays down a need for defender in January #BHAFC

Graham Potter has played down any January move for a defender. Albion will be without Lewis Dunk into the New Year - though the hope is not for too long - and have seen Adam Webster suffer a disrupted season. That comes on top of the £50 million sale of Ben White last summer although Shane Duffy’s return from loan at Celtic has been a success. Potter was asked about any plans to add a defender next month when he spoke at his media conference ahead of the Brentford game. Joe Rodon of Tottenham rivals Dan James as the player with whom he has been speculatively linked ever since he moved from Swansea City to take over as Albion head coach. However, it appeared the question was also being asked in relation to a recall for one of the defenders out on loan. Dependent on the terms of the specific deals, that could be Jan Paul van Hecke, who has helped Blackburn’s recent surge up the Championship. Or potentially Matt Clarke or Leo Ostigard or even Alex Cochrane, best known as a wing-back but now operating on the left of a three for Hearts. Potter said: “It’s not an area we’re looking to strengthen because of the players we have but you never know what the window does. "It’s not completely disregarded, but it isn’t a priority. “The loans, you’ve got to look whether it’s right for them to be recalled, whether it’s possible for them to be recalled. "Sometimes the loan is there until the end of the season, sometimes you’ve got an option to bring them back in January. “In that situation I can’t see anything changing really.” GRAHAM POTTER REVEALS HOPES AND PLANS FOR BRIGHTON V BRENTFORD Albion are not big fans of making loan signings of their own. Potter added: “It’s something we’ll discuss as a club. “As a general rule, it’s not something we’re overly keen on doing, because obviously that means the guys we have aren’t getting game time. “That isn’t best for us, generating future development. PREMIUM EXCLUSIVE: HOW CALDE AND ALBION'S FOREIGN PLAYERS TACKLED A FOOTBALLING CHRISTMAS “But you’ve always got to keep looking, what’s the best solution, be open-minded. Albion have laid on a range of extra travel options, which can be seen at brightonandhovealbion.com. Head coach Potter said: “I feel for the supporters. “I’m not sure it is the best time if I am being polite. “It is a lot for them in terms of the challenges they will have in getting to the ground. “I understand the club has done a really good job in terms of help in trying to help get them there, travel plans, but clearly it is not the best. “As a supporter you want to be there at 3pm or midday. “Get a bit of air, have a day at the football, but it is not to be. GRAHAM POTTER'S BRIGHTON V BRENTFORD PRESS CONFERENCE “But I’m sure that the guys that are there are the ones that will support us, they always do. “They will get behind the team but it’s not a great time and I feel for them in terms of the time of the kick-off.”

#PLStories- Graham Potter on Christmas fixtures as Managers meet to discuss player welfare #BHAFC

It is more than a decade now since former Albion boss Gus Poyet told The Argus he could not understand the Christmas schedule. "I love Boxing Day but why play on the 28th?" he asked in typically animated style at the club's former training base at the University of Sussex. The answer appears pretty simple. Everyone wants a home game over Christmas, including the clubs drawn to play away on December 26. So you almost create a second Boxing Day. As it turned out, Albion won that unwanted fixture 5-2 at Wycombe with Glenn Murray scoring four times. But the bigger picture is that concerns over playing too many games persist – and are increased in current circumstances. Premier League managers and head coaches discuss player welfare today. Albion boss Graham Potter said: “Traditionally, since I’ve played, we’ve played on the 26th and the 28th. “I don’t think we’re playing any more games than that this year but what we’ve got this year is a pandemic which means the squads and players are even more under pressure. “Already you’ve got an issue and then it’s compounded by a virus that is spreading through the population quite quickly. “Then you’ve got the issues of isolation and trying to be fit. GRAHAM POTTER'S VERDICT ON 8PM BOXING DAY KICK-OFF “There is more and more pressure on the players, so in an ideal world we probably haven’t got the balance right. “But we’re not in an ideal world.” Potter has accepted the fact Albion’s appeal for a postponement versus Wolves was unsuccessful. He said: “We put the request in because we had consecutive days of Covid issues, but we had to play and you have to get on with it and deal with it. “I think everyone is trying their best in very difficult circumstances. “The way it is, sometimes it’s like a refereeing decision, it goes your way or it doesn’t. “Everybody is doing their best. “I don’t think anyone is acting without integrity, put it that way.” Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been clear in his criticism of the schedule. He said: "I think it would be better with one game, absolutely, but obviously what I say is not too important. “If there are two games then we will play two games. But it would be helpful if there was only one, true.”

Welbeck has been missing since the draw at Crystal Palace in September. Maupay and Gross were absent when the Seagulls lost to Wolves last week. Adam Webster could also return from injury depending on how he trains for the rest of the week. GRAHAM POTTER'S BRIGHTON V BRENTFORD PRESS CONFERENCE “We need to just monitor him. #PLStories- Brighton’s chief executive and deputy chairman Paul Barber welcomes Premier League call to play on #BHAFC

Albion have welcomed a decision to play on over Christmas – and backed fans to play their part. Premier League clubs voted NOT to postpone any of the forthcoming fixtures, despite rising concerns over Covid and the workload being placed on players. Postponement and reduced capacities were both discussed when the 20 clubs meet via Zoom yesterday. But it remains business as usual for now – with the situation remaining under review. Albion chief executive and deputy chairman Paul Barber said player welfare was paramount as discussions took place. He said: “It’s a difficult balancing act. There are lots of Covid cases across the Premier League but, at the same time, we have fixture congestion already building up. “The danger of postponing games when we don’t need to is the fixture congestion goes later into the season, which could be even worsen. “In terms of player welfare, balancing what’s right at this moment with what could be right in the future was one of the difficult parts of the debate. “I’m happy we have decided the right thing, which is to carry on playing while we can, look after our players and staff as best we can and try to minimise the disruption to supporters as well.” A return to football behind closed doors was discussed – and has now happened in Wales. But Barber backed fans to protect themselves and others with their behaviour when at games and travelling to and from venues. He told TalkSPORT: “I think everyone was slightly fearful of that because cases are rising and we have seen what has happened in Wales. “I think the difference between this situation and what we were facing last time when we were behind closed doors is vaccinations have really taken hold. Lots of people have been vaccinated. PREMIUM: Why Albion know Dan looks like the man for Newcastle “People are much more aware of the virus. “They are careful when they are travelling to and from the games. “They are careful when they are in the stadiums. “It’s difficult to enforce mask-wearing in the stadium bowl but we are encouraging it. “Hopefully people will be respectful of each other and keep each other safe so we can keep stadiums full. “That’s really important. Lots of livelihoods depend on matches going ahead with fans in the stadium and that’s what players want as well.”

So we are definitely in a fine place.” Frank says he was not surprised that the decision was taken to carry on playing, despite the rise in cases. He added: “No, because what I suggested was just one round, to break that circuit, clean the training ground, limit the contact between players and staff. Manchester United were forced to postpone their match against Brentford on Tuesday due to the outbreak. "  Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick Albion are also managing Covid-19 cases at the club as Graham Potter confirmed there were "three or four" cases in the squad. This saw a depleted Albion squad take on Wolves in a 1-0 defeat in the Premier League last night. #PLStories- Brighton boss questions possible inconsistencies over Covid-19 postponements #BHAFC

ALBION boss Graham Potter believes it will be difficult for the Premier League to continue with the current trend of only some games being deemed worthy of postponement due to coronavirus infections among players. Potter revealed Albion were unsuccessful in their request for Wednesday evening’s clash with Wolves – a 1-0 loss – to be rearranged following a Covid-19 and injury crisis at the club. The depleted Seagulls were without a host of influential players for the game, with top scorer Neal Maupay and Pascal Gross the latest men to join the growing list of absentees. Brighton’s scheduled meeting with Tottenham on Sunday was postponed due to a Covid outbreak at the north London club, while Brentford versus Manchester United and Watford’s trip to Burnley were called off in similar circumstances on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively. Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Alexis Mac Allister “We asked the question because of our situation,” he said of a possible postponement. “You haven’t really got time to be disappointed (with being turned down). It was about preparing the team, preparing for the game.” Speaking of the apparent lack of consistency in decision-making, he continued: “You obviously have to think everyone is doing things in the best intentions. “There will be frustration with that. “It would be better if it was more transparent but at the same time you’re talking about medical information so I don’t know how transparent that can be. “I think the path we’re on, I’m not sure how long we can stay on it for. “We all want football to continue, want life to continue as best as we can but clearly health is the most important thing. “We’ve got some issues ourselves and this week has been a little bit disturbing in terms of how quickly we’ve been affected. “If that carries on then we’ll have to have some serious thought (about action being suspended).” Albion's winless run in the top flight stretched to a club-record 11 games after Romain Saiss’ first-half volley earned the visitors a deserved victory.

Tottenham are scheduled to travel to the Amex Stadium for the club's Premier League fixture against Albion on Sunday. This is now in doubt as Spurs' match against Rennes tomorrow night was called off due to a number of covid cases being reported at the club. A spokesman for Spurs said: "We can confirm that our UEFA Europa Conference League Group G home fixture against Stade Rennais will not take place tomorrow after a number of positive COVID-19 cases at the Club. "Discussions are ongoing with UEFA and we shall provide a further update on this fixture in due course. "Additionally, following discussions with the Health Security Agency (formerly Public Health England) and DCMS advisers, the Club has been advised to close the First Team area of its Training Centre at this time, in the interests of the health and safety of players and staff. "All other areas of the Training Centre remain operational." Albion drew their last game in the Premier League against Southampton after Neal Maupay's late equaliser cancelled out Armando Broja's opener. STRIKER Neal Maupay has delivered his verdict on Albion's draw against Southampton. The Frenchman, who scored the equalising goal late on was happy to see that the team did not give in a stayed in the game until the very end. Maupay said, “My performance wasn’t top and we struggled in the game but we never give up, that’s one of our big strengths. "Everyone fought to the end, even the lads who came on. Albion striker Neal Maupay battles for the ball, credit Liz Finlayson “In the first half we couldn’t match their intensity, they were winning all the 50-50 battles. But if you don’t fight in this league you’re not going to win and we were better in the second half. “I was very happy with the finish. It’s good to score last minute but I should have scored earlier when the keeper saved." Maupay has also suggested that Albion need to not worry about injured players, although he hopes they are back soon. #PLStories- Graham Potter gives update on Leandro Trossard after Saints injury #BHAFC

GRAHAM Potter has given an update on Leandro Trossard after suffering an injury during the Premier League fixture against Southampton. The forward who is celebrating his 27th birthday was stretched off against the Saints in the 85th minute after receiving treatment on the pitch. Trossard suffered an injury to his elbow, but according to manager Graham Potter, the injury was not a bad as first thought. Potter said: "It was an elbow, we don't think it was as bad as first thought. "But again we have not had a massive amount of information. "The early diagnosis is a bit more positive, we will have to see how it goes over the next day or so." The forward had to leave the pitch, leaving Albion with only ten men on the pitch. However, similar to Wednesday night it seemed to spur Albion on as they grabbed a 98th-minute equaliser through Neal Maupay.

#PLStories- Graham Potter full of praise for comeback spirit of players against Saints #BHAFC

GRAHAM Potter has praised the spirit of his players after they came from behind to earn a point against Southampton. Albion were not fully at the races as Southampton took the lead through Armando Broja in the first half. Despite the game looking like it was going to end in defeat, the ten men of Albion fought back and equalised in the 98th minute to grab a point from the game. Neal Maupay was the man again to be the hero after he intervened with Jakub Moder's volley, to score the goal himself. Albion were down to ten men after Leandro Trossard was forced off with an elbow injury. Brighton and Hove Albion players celebrate the late equaliser against Southampton Despite another game going by without a win, Potter was proud of the way his players pushed back in the game and gained another result. Potter said: "If it happens more than once, it can’t be luck. There’s a great spirit with the players. We weren’t at our best at all, it was a really scrappy game. "We pushed and pushed, and it was fantastic for Neal Maupay to get the goal. "Stuff has happened with injuries and the guys have had to adjust and reset. The character of the team is fantastic. "A win’s a win, still three points. Consistently, we're still in there and fighting for points. The league is so competitive, nobody gives you anything. As always, we can continue to improve and try to get points."
