#PLStories- Brighton boss admits team were not at best during draw with Southampton #BHAFC

ALBION manager Graham Potter has admitted that his side were not at their best during the first half of the match against Southampton. The Seagulls fell behind during the first 45 minutes of the Premier League fixture against the Saints after Robert Sanchez was punished for a poor clearance by Armando Broja. There was a big improvement from the players during the second half and managed to scrap a draw after Neal Maupay's late equaliser. Potter was happy with the improvement that he saw from his players in the second period of the match. Brighton and Hove Albion players celebrate Neal Maupay's equaliser The manager told the press after the game: "I think we have to be honest, we were not at our best in the first half. "Southampton were a better version of themselves than we were, that is not a criticism of the players, these things happen and I take responsibility for that as well. "We adjusted things in the second half and I think we were a little bit better, the game was more even and we probably edged it. "The second half we went down to ten men and we just kept going and created some opportunities and created some pressure and created some danger and in the end it was great to score. "Great to get the point." The draw sees Albio collect one point from St Mary's and stay in ninth place in the Premier League table.
Ralph Hasenhuttl

#PLStories- Ralph Hasenhuttl reveals hard to digest draw against Brighton #SAINTSFC #BHAFC

SAINTS boss Ralph Hasenhuttl admits it is "hard to accept" his side did not come away with three points against Brighton & Hove Albion. Saints looked on course for their fourth Premier League win of the campaign, with the other three having all previously finished 1-0. But they saw their slender advantage scuppered deep into second-half stoppage time, Neal Maupay popping up to equalise and earn a 1-1 draw for the visitors. "It’s horrible, the feeling I think tomorrow morning will be even harder," Hasenhuttl told the Daily Echo. "We are not the first team that has conceded a goal from them in the overtime, but we know that it was absolutely not necessary. "You cannot be happy about what you have done in the 95 minutes before when you concede such a goal. "When you are one up it is always a possibility to get the equaliser, as long as you don’t score the second goal then there is always a chance to come back and this is what happened today. "This is the reason why we are very, very disappointed today." He added: "This is absolutely a situation where we had a fantastic game played, maybe the first 35-40 minutes. "Dominated nearly the whole game. We lose (two points) at the end and we feel we are not the winner today. "This is awful. This is definitely hard to accept." Brighton played all 10 minutes of stoppage time with just 10 men due to an injury forcing off Leandro Trossard after the Seagulls had made all their substitutions. But they still battled back for a point. Asked how disappointed he was with the way his side approached the final 10 minutes, Hasenhuttl referenced an injury to goalkeeper Alex McCarthy, who played on despite a hamstring complaint. Hasenhuttl said: "This is the issue when you have no goalkeeper you can play the ball back to. "They give pressure, even with one man down. It is not so easy to play out then. "We had a few good moments where we were coming in the opposite half, but we have to keep the ball in there. "We had two big ball loses in the overtime. One from Moi (Elyounoussi) and one from Prowsey (James Ward-Prowse). "And then, like always, I think it is not the first time they turn a game around in overtime and they did it again. "We don’t want to discuss if we deserved to get the win today or not. We didn’t take it and this is hard for us to take." He added: "The performance was much better than, in the end, the result. But this is football. "Sometimes in the end it is not fair or when I say not fair, when you are so stupid in the end, then we don’t deserve the three points in the end. "But the performance, I cannot say that it wasn’t okay, it was absolutely okay. "We have to learn from such moments. We were discussing this also in the half-time that it is never over until the last whistle is blown, especially against Brighton because we know that they have this momentum in this season, all the time at the end. "This is the third time they have got an equaliser in the overtime. "As long as you are one up, the chances are always there and they believe in these chances. They did it. "We had a big chance to beat them for the first time here at home and we didn’t do it. This is hard to take."

#PLStories- Graham Potter will continue to take his time with Tariq Lamptey #BHAFC

ALBION boss Graham Potter will continue to tread carefully with Tariq Lamptey despite the youngster’s dynamic performances in the last two matches. Full-back Lamptey is still building up his strength and fitness a year after suffering a serious hamstring injury that sidelined him for nine months. The 21-year-old gave Leeds a torrid 75 minutes before being withdrawn in the 0-0 draw at the Amex last weekend and then climbed off the bench to set up Neal Maupay’s late equaliser in Wednesday’s 1-1 draw at West Ham. Albion fans are hoping for Lamptey to get more minutes on the pitch, but Potter says the hectic December schedule means he cannot risk the Chelsea youth product from the start in every match. “We’re going through a period where we’re going to play lots of games in a short space of time so that’s the only thing that’s going to stop the regularity of Tariq,” said Potter. “We all know his qualities and what he brings to the team. It’s just the close proximity of games will challenge him and us in terms of how much he plays and when he plays.” Lamptey is likely to return to the starting line-up when Albion travel along the south coast to face Southampton on Saturday.

#PLStories- Brighton manager confirms that Aaron Connolly could make return to squad #BHAFC

ALBION manager Graham Potter has played down injury fears ahead of the weekend's match against Southampton. Three Albion players will miss the game after picking up injuries against West Ham last night. Adam Webster, Adam Lallana and Jeremy Sarmiento all picked up injuries and needed to be substituted in order to receive treatment. However, fans can rest easy as the boss has played down concerns that the squad would not be able to deal with the added strain, suggesting that he is prepared to call upon some of the younger players at the club. Brighton and Hove Albion manager Graham Potter Potter has hinted that Aaron Connolly could make his return to the matchday squad following the injury to Lallana. Potter said: "We were hoping to get some minutes into him with the under 23s, but it looks like he will be with the group come the weekend. "We are still in the process of checking on everyone and recovering. "We will make some decisions tomorrow - if we need some of the under-23s then, of course, we will use them. "but at the moment, it doesn't look like we will need to.”

#PLStories- Graham Potter confirms that Adam Lallana will miss Saints return with Brighton #BHAFC

GRAHAM Potter confirmed three of his Brighton players who started Wednesday night's draw at West Ham would be unavailable to face Saints due to injury. They include former Saint Adam Lallana. The midfielder came through the youth ranks at Saints before playing 265 times for the club, scoring 60 goals, as well as spending a spell as captain, before leaving to join Liverpool for a fee of £25million in 2014. But the 33-year-old will not return to the St Mary's pitch with the Seagulls for Saturday's Premier League contest (3pm). Lallana, as well as Adam Webster and Jeremy Sarmiento, were all forced off against the Hammers as Brighton battled back to earn a 1-1 draw thanks to Neal Maupay's stunning late equaliser. Boss Potter said: "He and the two Adams (Webster and Lallana) both suffered and they and Jeremy will certainly not be involved against Southampton. "They won't be available for the weekend. "Adam was a slight calf, Lallana his thigh, Jeremy his hamstring. "It was a bit of muscle bingo there, which is disappointing for us, but we've got a group and we've got a squad to adjust and adapt. "Clearly it's not the best to lose players."

WEST Ham manager David Moyes has praised Albion ahead of their visit to the London Stadium. Albion will travel to the capital tomorrow as they look to end their current run of nine games without a win. Graham Potter's side have just drawn against Leeds at the Amex stadium despite heavily dominating the game. Albion are yet to lose to the Hammers in the Premier League, having won three and drawn five of the games between the two. West Ham manager David Moyes knows the threat that Brighton and Hove Albion pose to other teams David Moyes is wary of the threat that Albion can cause other teams in the Premier League. Moyes told the media: "Every team who plays Brighton understands that they can cause you problems, play with a really good style and have made a good start to the season." The Scottish manager has also lauded Potter as a reason behind the club's improvement this season. Moyes said: "I think Graham Potter's done a really good job. They've gone about their work really well. If you asked me last season, who I'd tip to improve, I'd say Brighton. "I think just overall they're a well-run football club, and Graham's a really good manager." The match between the two will kick off at 8pm, and will be televised on Amazon Prime's streaming service.

#PLStories- David Moyes thinks Brighton are very lucky to have Graham Potter #BHAFC #WHUFC

WEST Ham boss David Moyes feels Brighton fans should count themselves “really lucky” to have Graham Potter in charge. Following Saturday’s goalless draw with Leeds at the Amex Stadium, there was booing from some of the home support as the Seagulls saw their winless run in the Premier League extended to eight matches. Boss Potter was left “a little bit perplexed” by the negative reaction, later suggesting those fans who did vent their frustrations could have found themselves somewhat caught up in the moment. Brighton and Hove manager Graham Potter Albion head to the London Stadium on Wednesday night sitting ninth in the table. Moyes believes Potter deserves full credit for the way he has continued to move the club forwards. “They are really lucky to have Graham Potter as manager and you shouldn’t forget that,” said Moyes. “He is a top manager, has got a really good team. “We all get booed at times in our career. "You just have to move on and I’m sure Graham knows what he is doing more than the people who booed.”

#PLStories- Brighton boss Graham Potter reveals positives against Leeds United #BHAFC

Graham Potter said there were "too many positives to mention" after Albion’s draw with Leeds. The Seagulls were held 0-0 despite dominating much of the play. Potter highlighted the specific tactical test posed by Leeds and how his team went about breaking them down. He said: “It was one of those when the ball didn’t go for us. We did everything but score. “I think we played really well, showed great personality. “Great courage against a team who make it difficult for you in terms of how they defend. “Man for man, they leave one of your centre-backs on the ball. “You have to construct your attacks from there so you need to be patient, you need to find the right moment, which isn’t easy. "It takes courage but I thought the lads did it really well and created some really good chances.” Potter had been asked a question specifically about Tariq Lamptey’s threat down the right. He said: “Tariq contributed to that in a fantastic way, so did Leo (Trossard) on the other side . “Too many positives to mention to be honest. Really, really happy.” Potter was pleased with how Lamptey’s team-mates got him the ball in good areas. GRAHAM POTTER UNHAPPY WITH BOOS AS BRIGHTON DRAW WITH LEEDS And he said sometimes that might require patience and backwards passes which fans did not like to see. He added: “With Leeds you have to know how to get the ball to your one-v-one players. “I thought we did that well. We used our centre-backs, used our keeper. “Sometimes you have to go back to go forward. “It’s hard for people to understand that, I understand that, but that’s the reality of how you have to attack sometimes against Leeds.”

Robert Sanchez is ready to come bouncing back from his first red card. The Albion goalkeeper is expected to return to the XI as they face Leeds tomorrow (5.30pm). That is despite Jason Steele emerging with flying colours from his Premier League debut at Aston Villa. Sanchez has had time on the training ground both with Albion and Spain since his dismissal against Newcastle. Seagulls boss Graham Potter said: “He has reacted really well. “It’s a football action that can happen so there’s no blame for Rob – no negativity for that. “It’s part of his experience and development as a player so we’re all behind him and he will come back stronger for it.” Sanchez recently turned 24 and has so far made 38 Prem appearances, the equivalent of one full season. Potter said: “He’s quite a level-headed guy who keeps things in perspective. “Obviously he’s lucky because Ben Roberts works really well with him and he’s got the support of his team and the support of everybody here. “We know his quality. The sky’s the limit for him but he’s still a young goalkeeper and you can’t short-cut that process. #PLStories- Brighton boss Graham Potter supports LGBTQ+ community campaign – Stonewall’s Rainbow Laces #BHAFC

Graham Potter says he hopes a Premier League player ‘comes out’ out as gay. The Albion head coach believes the game has made progress in terms of increased inclusivity across the board. He has backed Stonewall’s Rainbow Laces campaign, which encourages people to speak up on behalf of the LGBTQ+ community. Albion’s match at home to Leeds is their designated Rainbow Laces fixture. Potter said of the campaign: “It’s vital, as a game, we should welcome everybody regardless of who they love. “It’s a fantastic initiative and it’s something football needs to carry on working with because we have to carry on being welcoming for all. “It’s an issue we speak about a lot regardless of sexuality, the colour of skin, religion, it should be a game for everyone. “I am pleased that football is taking a step, there’s things we could do better.” He added: “It’s educational, conversation, honesty, openness around the things that challenge people. “The more that gets out in the open the better.” Potter was asked whether a Premier League player would come out at some point. He replied: “I hope so because that’s a part of the challenge. “We’ve taken some steps but not enough. “Historically and culturally it’s a very masculine, heterosexual environment. “Thankfully the world is changing and people feel freer to be who they are regardless of their sexuality, but it’s not easy. “We’ve had some stories recently where people have taken those steps. “Not in this country but I believe there was a story in Australia. #PLStories-Graham Potter reveals excitement on Leeds game at the Amex #BHAFC #LUFC

Simon Grayson walked into the press conference room at the Amex and, in a break from the norm, asked the first question. He was manager of Leeds United at the time and his side had just grabbed a 3-3 draw in a hectic finale. Looking up at the muted TV screen to his left, which was showing Sky Sports News, he asked reporters present: “How did Rhinos go on?” He was informed by one of the reporters from Leeds that the city’s rugby league team had won and replied: “Been a decent night, then!” Grayson then proceeded to take questions on a game with the round ball which had seen Ross McCormack score deep in added time to earn Leeds a draw on their first ever visit to the new stadium. That was a cracker of a Friday night fixture, played just 48 hours after Albion had tested Kenny Dalglish’s Liverpool in the League Cup. The bold, or barmy, decision to play those two games so close together probably caught up with Albion. They came from 2-0 down at half-time to lead in a pulsating second half spent swarming towards the North Stand. [embedded content] But McCormack scored his second of the game as time ran out. That goal was probably the highlight of Leeds’ trips to the Amex from their point of view. It is rivalled by Paddy Kenny’s penalty save from Craig Mackail-Smith a year later. That was the game in which Leeds twice came from behind to force a 2-2 draw. [embedded content] Kenny denied them by saving not only the spot kick but also a late sidefoot effort by Andrew Crofts. Mackail-Smith scored twice in that game, the first of them from the spot. There was some debate over who scored Leeds’ second out-of the-blue equaliser. It has gone down next to the name of Michael Brown, who was fortunate not to be shown a second yellow card earlier in the game. But the ball actually took a flick off Lucciano Becchio to curl it past the dive of Tomasz Kuszczak. It was a significant goal because it remains Leeds’ last at the Amex. Albion have won five out of five since then, scoring 11 goals and conceding none. Leo Ulloa’s clever flick kicked that off by securing a 1-0 win over Oscar Garcia. A 2-0 success the following year included Inigo Calderon’s famous goal with his face as the ball bounced in off him. That was one of three successive home wins under Chris Hughton to guide the Seagulls away from the Championship relegation places. It was 4-0 by half-time the season after that and a pair of penalties completed a 2-0 pre-Christmas success in the promotion campaign. Pascal Gross drilled home from the spot last season. That was followed by Danny Welbeck’s superb second. Welbeck’s finish was every bit as good as, and not dis-similar to, Albion’s first goal against Leeds at the Amex, when Mackail-Smith finished calmly after a dragback when the ball came into him. They took an unbeaten Prem record into the fixture with Newcastle and extended it to nine games, though not in the way they would have liked. Then they went to Villa Park last week, a venue where they had never won before fans, and guess what happened. Now they look to extend a good run against Leeds. Graham Potter got a good look at the current Leeds side last Sunday when he attended their 2-1 defeat at Tottenham. He was very impressed by their first-half display. Potter said: “Every team brings its own something to the league, that’s what makes it so interesting. BRIGHTON'S ROBERT SANCHEZ READY TO BOUNCE BACK “The thing with Leeds is it’s so authentic, so clear and they’ve had an amazing journey with Marcelo there. “Promotion and a big club like Leeds United with that support and belief behind them, they’re always going to be a fantastic opponent in the Premier League. #PLStories- Graham Potter will weigh up Neal Maupay return to face Leeds #BHAFC #LUFC

Graham Potter says Albion will look at their attacking work after a blank at Aston Villa. But he has warned the solution is not as simple as just bringing back Neal Maupay. The four-goal top scorer is in contention for a return to the starting line-up for the home game against Leeds. Albion had 63% of possession but struggled to create chances in a 2-0 defeat at Villa Park on Saturday. Maupay has been on the bench for the last three games, including an impressive 2-2 draw at Liverpool in which the side attacked with menace led by Leandro Trossard. There are already calls among some fans for Maupay to be restored as a genuine No.9 after an attractive but relatively toothless display at Villa. WHY BRIGHTON TOOK OFF TARIQ LAMPTEY AT ASTON VILLA Head coach Potter told The Argus: “We have to look at how we attack. “Of course Neal is always in contention. BRIGHTON PLAYER RATINGS IN 2-0 DEFEAT AT ASTON VILLA “He is an important player for us, as are all our players. “We have to be disappointed today (Saturday), be frustrated today. “We have to train this week and push on. “It’s nice to think one person fixes all the problems or provides all the solutions. “But it would be unfair on anybody to put them in that position. “We have to do better as a team.” Albion have played some good football at the Amex this season although their tally of six goals in as many games includes just one from open play. Trossard was again their main striker at Villa but the system was less effective than at Anfield. Potter said: “It wasn’t so effective because we lost. “Whatever you do isn’t so effective if you don’t win.”

#PLStories- Graham Potter feels Brighton was in control of the game for most part against Aston Villa #BHAFC

Graham Potter said Albion must be critical of themselves after their 2-0 defeat by Aston Villa. But he was pleased with much of what they did until Ollie Watkins’ late strike turned the match. Albion had 63% of possession but only two efforts on target, by Leandro Trossard and Tariq Lamptey in the first half. Potter said: “I thought up until 83 minutes we did pretty much everything you can here apart from score in terms of controlling the crowd. “We knew the environment we were going to face and how difficult that is. “I thought we controlled the crowd, we controlled the game. “I thought we attacked better. I thought we created better chances. LEWIS DUNK REACTS TO BRIGHTON'S DEFEAT AT ASTON VILLA “Probably that feeling going up to the first goal was we are going to score, we are going to score. “Then we leave ourselves exposed a little bit and the turnover happens and 1-0 down. “The last seven minutes are disappointing.” Watkins capped a counter attack for the first goal after a low Albion cross had been cleared. Potter added: “We have to be critical of ourselves. We gave ourselves a chance to win the game but, ultimately, if you don’t score, you don’t win. “We need to do a little bit better. I think we can be better. “But that’s something for us to work with and keep trying to work with and keep trying to improve.”

#PLStories- Brighton boss Graham Potter shares his experience of living on the streets #BHAFC

Graham Potter accepts he did a sort of sleeping rough light at St Peter’s Church last Friday night. He didn’t get the total depressing experience and the weather was unusually mild for November. But the Albion head coach hopes his outing with Bruno and Billy Reid has done the job that was intended, which is increase awareness of those who brave it every night. Potter and colleagues slept out in support Off the Fence, who run Project Anti-Freeze. He said: “The reality is I spent one night on the streets, packed up my stuff, got in my car and drove home. “I have no idea what it is like to be homeless. “Even after one night there, it doesn’t bear thinking about. “It is the reality for a lot of people with the nights coming in and winter arriving and it is cold. You see how difficult it is. “It might just be toothpaste, or a change of clothes, or a fresh, clean, dry pair of socks. “Something that can make a difference. “It doesn’t cost much but it can erase a need. “If you can raise awareness and make things a little bit better for people, that is the best we can do.” Potter gave some insight into what his night was like. He said: “All the things you can think of. We were lucky it was quite mild so we didn’t experience the cold, which they will experience in the next few weeks. “It rained but not too much. You’re uncomfortable, of course – you’re sleeping in a cardboard box on concrete – and there’s the noise of the city on a Friday night and you have half an eye on who’s coming past. “You can imagine if that’s your reality all the time, you’re a bit scared about what can happen at night so you have lots of things to consider. “It’s not something I would be rushing to do again, as you can imagine, although I will do to support the charity.” Potter recognises that a Premier League manager doing what he did will raise awareness of a cause in a way that most people cannot. ASTON VILLA V BRIGHTON - STEVEN GERRARD'S WARNING He is not totally comfortable about that but said: “That is the reality, I suppose, because of the profile of the Premier League and a head coach in it. #PLStories- Brighton boss Graham Potter wants to make difference as manager beyond football results #BHAFC

GRAHAM Potter believes that shared experiences with his colleagues and players mean more to him than individual results. This Saturday's game at Villa Park marks the manager's 100th game as Albion boss since he was appointed in May 2019. Potter replaced Chris Hughton, who had been the manager to take Albion in the Premier League and keep them in the top flight for two seasons after promotion in 2017. Potter has admitted that results do bring him joy in the short term, he puts the pleasure of working day-to-day with players and staff above everything else. The 46-year-old said: "Football is about winning, it is a results business, we know that. "But I started doing this job because you can make a difference, you can help people. Ultimately that's what it's about for me. "I will look back on my life and I won't necessarily look back on wins or results, I will look back on the people that I have worked with. The challenge is then to combine that with what the club wants, which is to win enough football matches. "The result is a really important part of it, don't get me wrong – my life is a lot better when we've won! It's how you get that result though, that's why I refer to the people as the most important bit. "I look back at my times with Ostersunds, with Swansea and the people here, they will be more important to me than anything else." When he was asked about what was his favourite result as Albion's head coach, two matches at the Amex stick out for the Enghlishman. Potter said: "I still say the first game after lockdown against Arsenal was a massive result, if you looked at the fixtures we had – Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool at home, those are the games where you need your supporters and nobody was going to be there. "So to get that result [against Arsenal] was really important. If supporters had been there the roof would have come off. "For the players and the club, the 3-2 win over Manchester City was another big one. To beat a team of that quality, with the crowd there, was really good for the team." The manager appreciates the way fans have supported him during his time at the club. He said: "I always think the support has been positive generally. I keep off social media and don't read newspapers – the dissenting voices are always the loudest. "I am not naive enough to think that I have universal support because I don't think that exists, especially in this game. "But generally, the people I have met have been supportive, they can see what we're trying to do. "They want the results to get a little bit better, which is understandable, but they're really positive, they are appreciative of what we're trying to do and how we're trying to move the club forward. "There will be some because we're not winning enough who will want change to something else. The last time we had a crowd in before the pandemic, there was a bloke shouting at me, 'it's time to go now Potter' that's how it is. "Generally though, the supporters have been brilliant." Potter has taken charge of Albion 99 times since his appointment and has won 29, drawn 33 and lost 37 with an average of 1.21 points per game. He and his Albion team will take on Aston Villa and their new manager Steven Gerrard in his century match as Albion manager and will be hoping to earn his 30th win at the club.

The main thing everybody should focus on now is the Brighton game. “We have very little time to prepare in terms of having the full group. “Thankfully we have some players on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday that we can try and get a head start with and start getting some information over to them. “Brighton will be a tough game. “They are going well, they have got an exciting young manager and they are probably really satisfied with where they are right now. “But it’s a game we will go into and be aggressive and we will be looking to take maximum points for sure.” Albion picked up their first ever win at Villa Park with a 2-1 success behind closed doors last season. Saturday’s game is likely to be a very different proposition with a raucous atmosphere expected. The Seagulls led on their two visits before fans in recent seasons but came away with a draw and defeat. They will be looking for ways to exploit a Villa side who lost five in a row before sacking Dean Smith. Gerrard suggested there are defensive weaknesses. GRAHAM POTTER IS HAPPY WITH BRIGHTON, SAYS PAUL BARBER He said: “One thing I would like to improve on is the structure of the team from a defensive point of view. “Out of possession, our distances, our shape and what we do to regain the ball. "That is very important to me.”

#PLStories- Brighton boss Graham Potter reveals his charity experiences #BHAFC

This is Graham Potter and his staff as you have never seen them on a matchday. The Albion head coach, his assistant Billy Reid and first team coach Bruno joined The Big Sleep Out on Friday night to raise awareness and raise vital funds for the homeless in Brighton and Hove. Potter said: "We had an easy version of sleeping rough but it still gave us an insight into the challenges the homeless community face on a daily and nightly basis. "Having experienced just one night out on the street, I cannot imagine what it would be like suffering in this way with no idea of what the future holds, or where the next meal might be coming from. "There is a ridiculous stigma attached. These are some of the most vulnerable members of our society, and they need our help and support. "Many are suffering from illness, poor health and it is heart breaking in 2021 that we still see people living on our streets. "There are some amazing charities across the UK, and here in Brighton and Hove, who do some amazing work. It's getting tougher for those organisations, and as we move into the depths of winter when the nights will get colder, with temperatures going sub-zero, I would urge those of you who can, to give them your support this winter." The event at St Peter's Church was organised by Off the Fence, who support the homeless community. Money raised from the event will go towards some of the charity’s work such as its Anti-Freeze Project, which offers a range of care including food, sleeping bags, clothes, showers and laundry services at its day centre and emotional support for the homeless. #PLStories- Bruno Saltor speaks about his legacy at Brighton and Hove Albion #BHAFC

AN ALBION hero said he never could have imagined the legacy he has left with the Seagulls after coming to England as an adventure, but says there are still challenges “every single day”. Bruno Saltor joined the Albion on a free in 2012, making the switch from five seasons of top flight Spanish football with Valencia and Almeria, to a team who were beginning their second season in the Championship. The move was a risk for the then 32-year-old, who joined a growing Spanish contingent who had put faith in the eccentric Gus Poyet. That summer, Albion also brought in Andrea Orlandi and David Lopez who joined Vicente and Iñigo Calderon, who were already at the club. Albion’s senior player development coach told The Argus the move required adapting in almost every facet of his life. He said: “I came as an adventure. Not just myself, family wise as well. Not speaking any English, adapting to the culture, adapting to the food, adapting to everything. Bruno in the 2015/16 season, the season before he became captain. Picture by Liz Finlayson “It’s been a challenge every single day and that’s what I and my family love. Every day you are still learning with the language, still learning different ways to cook, different ways to see life. “It’s been an incredible journey but I never would have expected to get where I am right now. It feels like home, as I said not just myself but my family as well, we love Brighton.” Bruno’s last match before retiring was in the 18/19 season when Albion hosted Manchester City, scraping survival in their second ever Premier League season. Mural of Bruno in Church Street Albion’s club captain of three years, passed on his role to current captain, Lewis Dunk, and said in his post-match speech, “once a seagull, always a seagull”. One month later, it was announced he would move into a new role as a senior player development coach. Potter cited Bruno’s influence both “on and off the pitch” and said he was delighted the Spaniard was staying. It seemed a perfect match for the new coach to have a veteran who knows the club inside and out alongside him. Meanwhile, Bruno said how the “fit” of Graham Potter and the club is ideal. Bruno now plays a key role off the pitch. Paul Hazlewood/BHAFC The 41-year-old said: “Graham is another human being where he’s really aware of the society that he lives in. It’s so important the fit of Graham Potter as a person with Brighton and Hove Albion values. It just goes together really well. “Graham has always been trying to help players develop themselves, understanding every single player. Not just as a football player, but as human being as well. “After that he just gets involved with the society where he lives, the community that is Brighton.” Have you got a story for us? #PLStories- Ecuador boss tells Brighton attacking midfielder Jeremy Sarmiento to play with freedom #BHAFC

Jeremy Sarmiento has been told to play with freedom for his country. The Albion attacking midfielder was largely praised by observers – with one headline-making exception - as he made his first start for Ecuador. He played 76 minutes and was a bright spot of a somewhat laboured 1-0 win over bottom side Venezuela in the South American qualifying group for the World Cup. The three points keep Ecuador on course to reach Qatar. Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo, currently on loan at Beerschot, was also in the starting XI.   La ovación más grande hoy fue para Jeremy Sarmiento, harta pelota y tiene apenas 19 años.Que ganas de verlo junto a Estrada y Mena el próximo martes contra Chile.TALENTO PURO. pic.twitter.com/PJHZ2mPL6q — Alfredo Pinoargote Quiroz (@alfredjoe80) November 12, 2021   Ecuador boss Gustavo Alfaro said: “Jeremy made a good impression on me. “We had a chat (the day before the game) and he told me he was very happy and enjoying his time with Ecuador. “I asked him to feel a sense of freedom and I asked him, at the age of 19, to never lose his generosity, his capacity to run, his humility.” Alfaro said he had no doubts over giving Sarmiento his full debut. Despite widespread praise, Sarmiento’s selection was questioned by well known TV journalist Arturo Magallanes. But Renato Paiva, head coach of leading club Independiente del Valle, made headlines as he launched a stinging counter-attack on Magallanes and supported Sarmiento.   Buena victoria ayer, estoy feliz de ser parte de este gran equipo!! #PLStories- Brighton manager reveals his goals as a coach #BHAFC

GRAHAM Potter believes he is not a flag bearer for young British coaches. As many as 70 per cent of the Premier League’s managers are not from the UK as clubs have hired coaches with from abroad rather than to younger unproven British coaches. When asked if he felt pressure of being on of the most prominent young British coaches, Potter admitted he had not given it much thought. He told UCFB: “I think the most important thing is that you realise if you want to be a coach it is about helping people, trying to improve them and trying to help the team. “I know you have to get enough results and enough wins that keep you in a job, but in terms of whether I provide any inspiration or am a flag bearer for anybody else, I’m not sure.”
Leandro Trossard

#PLStories- Joel Veltman, Leandro Trossard assess Brighton points tally #BHAFC

And their rection to a 1-1 draw versus Newcastle proves that. Veltman was at right-back for a Seagulls side pegged back by Isaac Hayden after Leandro Trossard’s opener from the spot. Albion could have spent Saturday night in fifth place. They instead go into the final international fortnight of 2021 with 17 points from 11 games. Veltman was asked for his reaction and said: “Most of all, it’s disappointment. “You play a good first half, I think, but not a good second half. “They were smelling they could get something out of it. “It’s still 1-0 for us. They didn’t create really big chances but one set-piece was enough for them. “If you are going that high you have expectations. “We want to go higher as well and keep the level up. “With 17 points before the start (of the season) we could say ‘Great start’ and now we are a little bit disappointed so that’s strange. “But it’s also nice to see we are disappointed with 17 points.” Veltman was critical of Albion’s display. He said: “We were a little bit sloppy sometimes when we could just pass easily and we gave them hope. “When you make it 2-0, it’s a totally different game. “But it was still 1-0, sloppy passing and that was not good from our side. “They were pressing a little higher I think in the second half. “But still they were waiting for our mistakes and that’s what they did great, I think.” Veltman will not be a part of the Holland squad over the forthcoming two weeks. He is happy to take some time to rest ahead of s busy schedule. Head coach Graham Potter confirmed on Saturday his players not on international duty would be given some time to recuperate and be with their families. GRAHAM POTTER REVALS GOALKEEPER PLAN WITH ROBERT SANCHEZ SUSPENDED Veltman said: “The plan for us is now to take some rest, take some days off and I think we go again next week. “You were saying about the programme coming up. “It will be a busy one so take some days off, don’t think about football any more and next week we keep fighting again.” Goalscorer Trossard struck a similar theme to Veltman. He said: “If you had said at the start of the season that we would have had 17 points at this moment, everyone would sign up for that. “It is a good feeling as well, maybe not from today but in general the environment is good and everybody believes that we can achieve something this season. “We need to keep working and believing and maybe we can achieve something nice. I think we have a really good squad. Everyone is on their toes, everyone can play, and everyone knows that. “There is healthy competition. That is why we are up there. We support each other as well and that is how a team needs to perform.” Trossard will take some convincing that 1-1 was a fair result. Asked his reaction, he replied: “Maybe if you see the last 30 minutes it was a fair result. “But I think we could have been 2-0 up at half-time and then it is a bit easier for us. “They then need to do come on more and then maybe you can do something on the counter but that didn’t happen and we need to work on that.”

#PLStories- Graham Potter happy with performance against deep defending Newcastle team #BHAFC #NUFC

He said there was plenty to work on after a 1-1 draw. The head coach said: “I thought we played well, certainly first half really well. “It’s not easy to play against a team that are defending deep and have the quality attacking players they have that can hurt you on the transition. “I thought we did it really well up to about an hour and they scored. “Then we lost our way a bit and it’s something for us to improve on. “But the guys tried and tried. “It’s hard to control things for 90 minutes in a Premier League game. “In the end it’s a point and we move on. “It keeps the scoreboard ticking over and we have to keep trying to improve.” Potter believed the penalty award for his team and the red card for Robert Sanchez were correct calls though he said he had not seen them back.

#PLStories- Graham Potter assesses ‘false nine’ role for Leandro Trossard #BHAFC

It was a week which had you pondering an unusual question. Was Leandro Trossard a true ‘false nine’ at Anfield? Or just a nine. There is more tactical talk than ever for and among fans these days. So much so that you end up analysing the analysis. So many stats. Some in context, some not. Like the Crystal Palace analytics account on Twitter which trawled through the numbers before joyfully revealing that Marc Cucurella made an unprecedented zero tackles against Mo Salah. Let’s just forget that the most lethal forward in world football right now barely had a sniff of goal, shall we? Let’s call a pass to a midfielder being closed down around the edge of the box an assist. Which technically it was but it didn’t assist Jordan Henderson all that much much. Analytics are supposed to help us understand the game better, not worse. Put the numbers in context, Or, better still, actually watch the game. The stat about Leandro Trossard is that he is shooting more than ever in Albion shirt. Almost twice as much as two seasons ago and significantly more than last term too. Last Saturday he played at a venue where, it might be argued, many of us first saw what you might call a ‘false nine’ many years ago. That was Kenny Dalglish in the days before Ian Rush emerged. None of us know it was a ‘false nine’ then but we knew the problems Dalglish caused with his skills, low centre of gravity and ability to find his own spaces and create them for others. Without comparing Trossard to the Anfield legend, there was something of the King Kenny in the role Trossard played. So was he a true ‘false nine’ or false ‘false nine’? Albion boss Graham Potter said: “I think the ‘false nine’ has been jumped on a little bit. “I think it is just Leo playing in that position. “Leo’s strengths are he can run in behind the defence and he can drop in and link up, dribble, and play through balls. “When you consider he played against arguably the best centre-back in the world in (Virgil) van Dijk, to play that type of player with that profile can make a bit of sense. “It was also a combination with him, Solly (March) and Adam (Lallana) that made us attack quite well. “We attacked in a similar way against Man City in the second half. “It is an option for us. It doesn’t mean it is set in stone for the rest of the season but it is the same sort of thinking in terms of how the team wants to attack and using the best players for that strategy.” Trossard’s numbers in terms of goal attempts per game have increased season-on-season with the Seagulls. From 1.3 in 2019-20 to 1.7 last term to a current 2.6, albeit over only ten fixtures. Asked whether he has been encouraged to shoot more, Potter said: “I wouldn’t say necessarily explicitly more. He’s maybe in a bit more of a central position. DANNY WELBECK CAN GIVE BRIGHTON SOME GOOD NEWS “He is in a bit more of an advanced position so the opportunities come more. “I think it’s all about decision-making and that, in the final third, is what separates the top players with the good ones. “That decision making and execution in the final third when there is not that much time and space. “Leo has got the quality to execute and to decide and it’s about putting him in those positions as often as we can. GRAHAM POTTER RELISHES CLASH WITH OLD MATE “It is always about the team and the collective, because that is that starting point for everything. How does the team want to attack and defend? “Based on those thoughts you can look at the best players that can fill those positions in the best way. Trossard averaged three shots per game as main man in his final season with Genk. That number reduces to 1.5 (which is surprisingly high, perhaps) in international action with the all stars of Belgium.

#PLStories- Brighton’s Graham Potter reveals Aaron Connolly setback #BHAFC

Graham Potter expects Aaron Connolly to deal with the disappointment of missing out on international action. The Albion striker is not part of the Republic of Ireland squad to play Portugal and Luxembourg in forthcoming World Cup qualifiers. Potter and Republic boss Stephen Kenny both reported Connolly had a minor heel issue. There appeared a slight difference of interpretation as to why he was not in the Irish squad. But Kenny recognised he would probably be fit in time for next Thursday’s fixture against the Portuguese. Potter said: “He picked up a heel injury after the Leicester game. “It was only minor but we just probably felt the game at Liverpool came too soon. “It was only a couple of days’ recovery time so that was disappointing for him. BRIGHTON V NEWCASTLE - GRAHAM POTTER'S PRESS CONFERENCE   “I thought he did well against Leicester, worked hard for the team. “I imagine he will be frustrated and disappointed not to play for his country because he wants to do that. “But, at the same time, he will respect the decision of Stephen. “That’s life. You have to accept the coach makes these decisions and that is what Aaron does.” Kenny was at Leicester and watched Connolly in Carabao Cup action. He said today: “It was great to see him get 90 minutes in because he has not had that often over the last fair period of his career. “He has had a heel issue since then. “He missed the league game, he hasn’t trained at all. “He is unable to train at the moment so, on that basis, he has been left out.” Kenny said he had been in touch both with Potter and Connolly. He added: “I spoke to Graham in midweek. I have a good relation with Graham. “He hasn’t been training for Brighton. “I spoke to Aaron yesterday and he didn’t feel he was really right. “Technically he could possibly be available next Thursday for selection.”
Adam Lallana

#PLStories- Adam Lallana thanks Liverpool fans after 2-2 Brighton draw #BHAFC #LFC

Adam Lallana has highlighted the tactical switch which helped Albion produce an “outstanding” second half at Anfield. The former Liverpool man was applauded by home fans after he said a belated farewell following the 2-2 draw. Lallana played a major part in the contest as his pass sent Leandro Trossard in to equalise. He also spoke about the job he was given against his great mate Jordan Henderson at half-time with Albion 2-1 down. Lallana said: “At half-time we said to believe and second half was outstanding. Brave, getting on the ball, controlling the game. On another day we could have won. “We played the ball round the back and frustrated them. “We changed tactically and I went man to man on Hendo because he was controlling too much first half.  LEWIS DUNK PROUD TO HEAR BRIGHTON FANS AT ANFIELD “We were fantastic. Credit to the subs that came on. (Tariq) Lamptey showed great impact and (Alexis) Mac Allister controlled it at times.” Lallana started th game further forward than in recent outings as Yves Bissouma and Enock Mwepu came into the XI. He said: “When he (Mwepu) and Bissouma are in they have agility that others don't possess. “Biss was still finding his feet. He will be tired after that workout. “We have a great group and the manager refers to that. “I was lucky enough to win the title at Liverpool and you don't win it with 11. “You need 18 to 22 players. We are slowly building that. “It's been a tough week - City, Leicester and Liverpool - but we can take a lot of confidence.” Lallana applauded those home fans who remained after full-time and received a great ovation in return. He said: “Very humbled by it. I had an outstanding time here and was unfortunate to leave without saying goodbye properly so it’s nice to come back to a welcome like that.”

The away section were in great spirits as their side came from 2-0 down to secure a Premier League point. They could not repeat their win at Liverpool behind closed doors last season. But they were desperately close to another famous victory. Skipper Dunk said of the fans’ presence this time: “It’s different. It makes it harder for us because they can be noisy. “But our own fans in the end were the ones singing. “That is the way we want it to be and that’s the way we made it. “Disappointed we didn’t nick it in the end. “But if you look back at it in a couple of weeks and we got a point at Anfield, we’ll take it.” Dunk was delighted with his side’s efforts after the game seemed to have got away from them. He sad: “It was a very good performance in the end. “Obviously it was a very tough first half an hour. LIVERPOOL 2 BRIGHTON 2 - HOW WE REPORTED THE ACTION “We knew they were going to start quick and we weren’t quite with it. “But we found our feet and were probably the better team in the end – and could have been disappointed with not winning it. “But to be 2-0 down and get a draw at Anfield is a great feat.”

#PLStories- Graham Potter hails incredible Brighton performance after draw 2-2 at Liverpool #BHAFC

Graham Potter praised an "incredible" Albion performance as they stunned Anfield. The Seagulls came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 and were close to taking maximum points at Liverpool. Enock Mwepu and Leandro Trossard scored to secure a point. Albion boss Potter said: “It was a wonderful game, one of the best games I have been involved in I think. I can’t think of another one better. "And the guys in the second half, an incredible performance. "I didn’t think we were too bad in the first half, we were just punished by a really good team. "They had some really good moments and that can happen here especially. "We survived the third goal when it gets disallowed and from there we have a bit of belief, a response to score and then the second half was a wonderful performance." Albion momentarily thought they had gone 3-2 up when Trossard rounded Alisson to cap a great move – but he was a yard offside. Potter said: “It was a fantastic move, great goal but it’s offside so that’s life. “But take nothing away from the performance of the team. The way they played, showed togetherness and trust in what they were doing. “Resilience, character, all the things you want - and also quality.”

#PLStories – Graham Potter reveals strategy for Brighton against Liverpool #LFC #BHAFC

ALBION boss Graham Potter believes that his side needs to be balanced when they take on Liverpool in the Premier League. The Seagulls travel to Anfield on Saturday and will hope to finish a tough week on a high. The match will be a tough task for the Seagulls, as former Reds and Albion defender Mark Lawrenson believes that if they attack Liverpool they would be committing footballing suicide. Graham Potter, however, thinks that the club needs to be balanced in their approach as going to defensive against Jurgen Klopp's men could be just as dangerous. Potter told the Argus: "Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and that is the world we are in and, I respect that opinion. "We have to be balanced clearly because the opponent is of a high level, and that is normal in football, and you have to try and get the balance right between defence and attack. "If you just do one thing like defend then, it can also be suicide as you can never get out of your own box and you can never do anything, and in the end and their quality beats you. "So I think we have got to offer both, but in a balanced way." Brighton manager Graham Potter Albion have been good defensively this season, keeping four clean sheets in the Premier League alone. This has been down to the good form of goalkeeper Robert Sanchez and defenders Lewis Dunk, Shane Duffy, Dan Burn and Joel Veltman. The defence has provided the backbone for the positive start to the season that has seen Albion climb up the Premier League table and are now sat in the fifth position ahead of their tie with Liverpool. Although, with Dan Burn out of the match against the Reds, Potter will have to find a way to fill the gap he leaves in the defence. Speaking about the absence of Burn, Potter said: "He provides a bit of flexibility on the left, is naturally left-footed, can play on the left of a three, can play at left-back, left wing-back. "So we lose that position, but we have other guys who can do things in a different way. We just have to find that solution." The positive is the timely return of Adam Webster, who made his return to the pitch in the Carabao Cup defeat on penalties against Leicester City. While shaky at first, Webster grew into the game and could provide a good option for Potter to call upon for the clash against Liverpool.

#PLStories – Brighton boss Graham Potter confirms Dan Burn will miss game against Liverpool #LFC #BHAFC

ALBION boss Graham Potter has confirmed he will be without defender Dan Burn for the trip to Anfield this weekend. The 29-year-old hurt his knee after a hard fall in the Carabao Cup defeat to Leicester City on Wednesday night. The player went for scans on Thursday to discover the extent of the injury, and it turns out the knock will keep Burn out of the match against Liverpool. Potter said: "He had his scan, and he won't be available for the trip to Anfield. "We don't know the full extent yet, we are still waiting to hear back on that. It was his knee, it was not as bad this morning, but we just need to wait and hear." Adam Webster could be in line to replace Burn, the 26-year-old made his return from injury in the cup game. Potter said: "Adam's [Webster] close to starting. We just need to consider he played 60 last night and see how he recovers."

ALBION boss Graham Potter is happy with his side's performance against Leicester City, despite their exit from the Carabao Cup. The Seagulls came from behind on two different occasions as they battled against a strong Foxes side. Albion were hardly outplayed during the game either as Leicester's goals both came from errors from Potter's players, rather than them being outclassed by the Midlands side. Speaking after the game, Potter said: "Really positive team performance, I thought lots of individuals performances were really positive. "Overall it optimises the spirit of the team and group, with people coming in and helping the team and playing with personality "Disappointed that we went out, but happy with the guys." Albion lost the game on penalties after Neal Maupay and Enock Mwepu missed their spot-kicks, whereas the Foxes kept a perfect record throughout. Potter will now have to pick his team up again and get their focus on their big match away to Liverpool at Anfield in the Premier League on Saturday. The manager will be hoping to avoid his side losing three games in a row in a single week, after their defeat to the Foxes and to Manchester City on Saturday.

#PLStories- Brighton boss urges strikers to take their chance in League Cup #BHAFC

Brighton boss Graham Potter hopes Aaron Connolly can use the Carabao Cup tie at Leicester to show why he should be given more game time in the Premier League. Potter is expected to utilise his squad again for Tuesday night’s last-16 clash, with Alexis Mac Allister, Enock Mwepu, Yves Bissouma and defender Adam Webster also likely to be in the frame. Republic of Ireland forward Connolly, 21, scored both goals in the 2-0 win over Swansea in the third round but has since featured only as a late substitute in the 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace. Potter accepts team selection is never an easy topic to address with players when they are not involved, but expects all of his squad to be ready whenever needed. “Anytime the guys get to play is an opportunity, that is the life for professional footballers,” said Potter. “Of course everybody has opinions and it is easy to speak and talk, but actually the best way to do it is to let football speak and what you do on the pitch. “We were really pleased with Aaron in the last (cup) game. It was nice for him to get some goals. “We have been picking up points in the Premier League so it is not so easy (on the bench), but that is how life is. “You have to wait your chance, be patient, you have to keep working, to keep focus on yourself and make sure that if the opportunity comes that you are ready and you can take it.” Brighton were beaten 4-1 at home by Manchester City in the Premier League on Saturday but nevertheless have enjoyed a fine start to the new campaign – which in itself gives Potter another selection dilemma. “It is a bit more of a difficult conversation if you are down the bottom of the league and you haven’t got any points, but we have been fourth in the Premier League, so clearly the 11 who are playing are doing okay,” the Albion boss said. “So sometimes it is the life of a professional footballer, sometimes is not fair, sometimes the coach makes a different decision, and there is competition because it is the highest level. “All you can do as a player is not let the coach’s decision affect your response really. “Make sure you are ready, make sure that when you are on the pitch you are doing your best and that you make it difficult for the coach not to play you. “All you can do is be honest, articulate your thoughts to the player, and then the response is their responsibility.”

#PLStories- Graham Potter hoping Brighton’s league cup run continues #BHAFC

GRAHAM Potter wants Albion to progress in the League Cup when they take on Leicester City tomorrow evening. The Seagulls were dumped out of the league cup in the third round last season by Aston Villa, but they have a chance of making it into the final eight teams of the competition this year. Potter's team will travel to the King Power Stadium tomorrow and will be hoping to put in a better performance than they did against Manchester City on Saturday. In his pre-match press conference, Potter said: "It is not something I have given a massive amount of thought to, we want to win the game, in cup competitions, there is no point thinking anything other than the next match you play. "We are ambitious, we understand that a cup run can help the positivity and something that the supporters will like and enjoy. "We will do our best in the game, and we want to be competitive, and we want to win as I am sure Leicester will want to as well. We go tomorrow and we will give it a go." Albion have beaten the Foxes already this season in the League, but Potter does not think that will count for much when the teams take on each other. Potter said: "I don't think the past counts for much, it will be two completely different teams, Brendan will make changes, and we will too. "It is at their place, they will look to be dominant at home, and we need to be ready for and that we will have to compete and do our best. "We will do our best. It is a great game for us and a good opportunity for the guys, we are looking forward to it."

#PLStories- Brighton boss Graham Potter gives positive injury update before league cup match #BHAFC

ALBION boss Graham Potter has delivered a positive injury update on his squad ahead of their Carabao Cup tie against Leicester City. The manager confirmed that there were no new injury concerns and that Adam Webster would be involved in the match against the Foxes. The defender returned to training last week and made the bench against Manchester City on Saturday but did not come on as a substitute. Potter said: "We have 20 plus players who are fighting every day to play, and they are supporting each other, and this is an opportunity for guys who have not played as much to play. "Whenever Adam is available, it is a timely occasion, he is an important player for us. If you back to the Watford game, he was probably our most effective attacking player, he gives us a different dimension. "He is competing for his place, and he needs to build up his minutes, and he will be involved tomorrow, which is good news for us." Tariq Lamptey has also only recently returned to action following his own injury issues. The full-back has made a couple of cameo appearances in the last couple of weeks and impressed against the Citizens. Potter said: "We have a plan with Tariq, and we have had a plan, it depends on how much involvement he has and he played quite a bit against Manchester City. "So with a view to Liverpool, we will make the call about him. We don't have any fresh injury problems, and we just need to make the decision about who's playing in the squad."

We weren’t even too bad, I don’t think, but we lost the ball in some dangerous positions and the quality they have, they looked like scoring every time we lost it. “I think we have got to be careful where we lose the ball and it just shows the quality they have really. “Every time we lost it, they had five options going forward and seemed to be ahead of us, wherever that was. “I think in the second half we put in a performance and gave it a good go.” Alexis Mac Allister eventually rewarded the hosts’ second-half improvement by converting a penalty. BRIGHTON 1 MANCHESTER CITY 4: HOW IT HAPPENED  March said: “I think the first 35 minutes of that second half we were the better team. “We were putting pressure on them and getting in half decent positions. “Maybe if we got a goal a bit earlier we could have put on a bit more pressure in the last ten, 15 minutes. “But I think we ran put of steam in the last ten minutes and that was why they got their fourth goal. “We created a few half-chances but one of those needs to go in against a team of this quality. “It wasn’t to be.”

#PLStories- Graham Potter praises Brighton after defeat to Manchester City #MCFC

Graham Potter had no complaints about his team’s efforts against Manchester City – or the goal which opened the first-half floodgates. Robert Sanchez and his defenders claimed the keeper had been fouled before Ilkay Gundogan tapped in for the opener n City’s 4-1 win. Potter suggested he did not think there was a foul. The Albion head coach said: “It happens. It wasn’t the best goal from our perspective. When it was live, my instinct was it was a foul but I have not seen it back.” But Potter enjoyed his side’s response from 3-0 down at the break. He said: “Performance-wise I am so proud of the players. “We were playing against a top team who deserved to win. “But our players gave everything. “They did everything we asked them to do. SOLLY MARCH VERDICT ON BRIGHTON V MANCHESTER CITY “They were together, they had spirit, they had quality so we are disappointed to lose but our performance was something to be proud of.” Asked whether confidence would be dented less thanks to the second-half improvement, Potter said: “It’s not dented at all. I can’t be prouder of the team. “I can’t be prouder of the performance. “In the second half I thought we were the better team until the 85th minute.”

#PLStories- Brighton’s Graham Potter excited by Kaoru Mitoma hat-trick #BHAFC

Albion could consider a January recall for Kaoru Mitoma – red-tape permitting. The Japanese wideman scored a superb second-half hat-trick for Union St-Gilloise as they went top of the league in Belgium. It did not go un-noticed at Albion’s training complex. Mitoma has yet to start a league game after going on loan to USG following his move from the J-League. But that could well change as they visit Eupen tomorrow evening. Mitoma went on as sub with his side 2-0 down to Seraing and having just been reduced to ten men. His treble, coming in from the left, helped them to a 4-2 win. Albion have personnel detailed to keep close tabs on their array of loan players. So clearly his performance would not have passed them by, had it been good or bad. But Graham Potter was asked whether, on a more basic level, his feats had been talked about at the club this week. Albion’s head coach said: “It has been mentioned. It’s fantastic – fantastic for him, for Union as well. “We are delighted. They are pushing at the top. Long may that continue. “He is an exciting player.” Mitoma’s stunning treble came as Albion were drawing a blank at Norwich. While clearly it was only one half-game in a league which falls below European elite level, it was an emphatic proof of the 24-year-old’s potential. PEP GUARDIOLA WARNS BRIGHTON AHEAD OF PREMIER LEAGUE CLASH He hopes to break into the senior Japan squad, which would help in the process of securing a UK work permit. Asked whether the paperwork was the only reason Mitoma was in Belgium, Potter told The Argus: “As I understand it, that’s the challenge. “At the moment he is enjoying his football there and it is important for him to take that step. Then we see what we can do in terms of the red tape, so to speak, the regulations and then we will make a decision in January.”

#PLStories- Pep Guardiola reveals knowing Brighton style of play very well #MCFC

Pep Guardiola has warned Albion face a different challenge against Manchester City tomorrow. But he was a man of few words when asked about Graham Potter’s side. Guardiola faced the media today in the run-up to his side’s return to the Amex. Albion came from two down to beat City 3-2 at the end of last season. But Guardiola said there would be no revenge mission among his squad. The City boss said: "Absolutely not. In football you win or lose.” He added: “Last season we were champions and we play to prepare for the final of the Champions League. “Now we are fighting to be champions. There is a big difference.” Asked as a follow-up whether Albion had changed at all since that night, Guardiola said: “I think they are the same.” Guardiola has been fulsome in his praise of Seagulls head coach Potter in the past. Today he said: “I enjoy watching Brighton, it’s an exceptional team.” Albion have had 22 yellow cards this season, the most in the Prem, although 13 have come in away games. BRIAN HORTON REVEALS WHAT HE LOVES ABOUT THE WAY BRIGHTON ARE PLAYING FOR GRAHAM POTTER Guardiola was asked whether City would target that disciplinary record. He said: “I know the game we are going to face tomorrow and the players know it as well. “There is a referee for a reason.”

#PLStories- Brighton announce Glenn Murray and Fern Whelan as ambassadors #BHAFC

The pair will represent Albion at a selection of home matches, as well as other club and Albion in the Community events, alongside current ambassadors Bobby Zamora and Alan Mullery. Murray played for Albion from 2008-11 and 2016-21, scoring 111 goals in 287 appearances for the club. Whelan joined Albion in 2017 and made 23 appearances for the club before retiring in 2020. Albion chief executive and deputy chairman Paul Barber saidP “We’re delighted to welcome Fern and Glenn as ambassadors. Both bring a real understanding and knowledge of the club, our values and the role we play in the local community. “Glenn played an important role with the men’s team over the last 15 years prior to hanging up his boots and Fern helped establish the club in the Women’s Super League. We’re really looking forward to working with them.” Whelan recently started her new role with the PFA. In April, Fern and her partner Aileen Whelan, who plays for the club, became proud parents after Fern gave birth to their son Jenson.
Adam Lallana

#PLStories- Albion’s Adam Lallana welcomes Tariq Lamptey on return from injury #BHAFC

ADAM Lallana has praised defender Tariq Lamptey after he made his Premier League return on Saturday. The right-back made his first Premier League outing since last December against Norwich as he entered the field as a second-half substitute for Joel Veltman. While he is not yet back to his best, it is good to see the promising defender back on the pitch. Adam Lallana congratulated Tariq Lamptey on making his return on Instagram. The 33-year-old said: "Buzzing to have Tariq back...one of life's good guys and some player. "Far from our best yesterday performance-wise, but will take the point. Some monster games coming up. We'll be ready. Lamptey replied to Lallana, he said: "Thank you bro, really appreciate it. Buzzing to be back." While Lamptey did not amaze on his return, he put in a very solid performance for the Seagulls. He completed 94.7 per cent of his passes, as well as playing one accurate cross and one accurate long ball. It was clear to see that the defender lacked some match fitness as he gave away two fouls in his 32-minute cameo. The 21-year-old will be hoping for more game time in the coming weeks, as Albion take on Manchester City and Liverpool in the Premier League as well as a League Cup match against Leicester City. It is Lamptey's second appearance this season after he got 45 minutes under his belt against Swansea City in the League Cup last month. Graham Potter will have to manage the defender's playing time, as to not cause any reoccurrence to the injury that kept him out for ten months.
Pascal Gross

#PLStories- Pascal Gross gives Brighton verdict after goalless draw at Norwich #BHAFC

Pascal Gross says Albion must improve in the final third after their blank at Norwich. The Seagulls followed their 0-0 draw against Arsenal with the same result at Carrow Road. They were not content with their attacking work, although they had enough chances to win the game. Midfielder Gross said: "We could create more chances. The last pass or last shot was missing something. “If not, we probably win the game. And it wasn’t the case, unfortunately. “A clean sheet in the Premier League is always good. We are solid defensively. AUDIO: BRIAN OWEN REVIEWS BRIGHTON'S DRAW AT NORWICH - AND THE RETURN OF A FAVOURITE “That is something we can build on. “Better in the last third and you get more points.” HOW BRIGHTON DREW 0-0 AT NORWICH CITY Gross was among those who felt Albion should have had a penalty when Tim Krul appeared to clip Neal Maupay. He said: “He passed the keeper. It’s a tap-in into an empty net so there is no reason for him to go down.”
