• Ryan Giggs revealed Alex Ferguson’s strategy to protect him from media
Ryan Giggs at 19 was already a Manchester United superstar and his reputation was preceding him onto the world stage. He already had a premier league medal and won PFA Young Player of the Year twice in two years. As he was about to clock up 100 appearances for United, the winger spoke about his experience at the club and how Alex Ferguson was micromanaging him to ensure he stays away from media.
Ryan Giggs said “Manchester United are one of the biggest clubs in the world and its right to describe their tradition as magnificent. Thankfully we’ve been able to add to it. I have been happy about his (Alex Ferguson’s) softly softly approach to me and the media from the start. He is the manager of the club and I don’t really think about the media, not because I don’t want to co operate but because I want to concerntrate on football. I appreciate everything he has done. Playing in Europe will be a brilliant thrill, my ambition is to win European cup with Manchester United this season.”
