#PLStories- #MikelArteta heaps praise on #CalumChambers and #Willian after Burnley clash #ARSENALFC

What did you make of Calum Chambers performance given that it was his first Premier League start since December 2019? I'm extremely happy with him. He deserved completely his chance to start the game because of the recovery he's done, the preparation he's done to get to the level he's at at the moment and the way he trains and behaves every day. I think it was a really good game for him, for the needs that we had on the pitch and I think he had a really good performance. That was Willian's third assist in three games. What did you make of his contribution? It's always a difficult game to play here for the forwards the way they play here, but I thought he had some really good moments in the game. There were some moments where we struggled because we played their game for 25 minutes in the second half which they do that really well to weight the game where they want. Video Loading Video Unavailable Click to play Tap to play The video will auto-play soon8Cancel It's pretty difficult to get out of it when the ball is always stopping, when there are free kicks and goal kicks and throw ins, but it's their game, but the moment we got control and we can use the spaces and he can have short relationships with his teammates I think he's very efficient. The team's heads seemed to drop for about 25 minutes after you conceded that goal. Is that something you can try to address is some way? It can happen individually for the player that made that, but it cannot happen to a team. It's true that in the second half the way they started in the second half the way they were really direct, it stretches the structure that becomes a really open game you don't have any composure in the game, or we didn't have in that moment, and understanding that the pitch was really difficult to play, then is when we lose that. But I didn't have the feeling that they didn't have the belief that we could win the game and I think the answer that they had in the last 15 minutes was the answer, but it wasn't enough to win the game. Does it almost feel like the message isn't getting through sometimes? No it is getting through, but sometimes we have just moments in the game. If you compare the game to the game we played a year ago here [at Turf Moor] it's a different world and we completely deserved to win the game and a year ago we probably deserved to lose that game but the results are still the same, but a lot of things are very different. I'm honestly really disappointed that we didn't win the game for the reasons that I already explained.
Willian Chelsea

#PLStory- #Willian has decided to stay in Europe when he leaves Arsenal #ArsenalFC

Willian has revealed that he would like to remain in Europe when he ends up leaving Arsenal. The 32-year-old arrived at the Emirates Stadium on a free transfer last summer after his contract at London rivals Chelsea expired and enjoyed an impressive debut, recording multiple assists in a 3-0 win over Fulham on the opening weekend of the new Premier League season. However, the Brazilian has not been able to build on that showing, registering just two assists across all competitions since and is still awaiting his first goal in Arsenal colours. With that said, he was hailed as a 'gamechanger' by Gunners manager Mikel Arteta during Thursday evening's Europa League comeback win over Benfica. But what are the attacking midfielder's plans for when he does leave Arsenal? Well, a return to Brazil has been ruled out as Willian has already decided he wants to remain in Europe and hasn't closed the door on playing in the United States before retiring. "Look, I always say that sometimes we make plans but sometimes the plans change," Willian told UOL, as per Sport Witness. "Today, in my head, I don’t have this objective. I have neither the desire nor the objective to play in Brazil. "I intend to stay in Europe, anyway. Leaving Europe, going to another market. United States, I don’t know, another market. But we make plans, sometimes things can change. "So today I reply to you that I don’t have this thought of playing in Brazil again." (Photo by Stuart MacFarlane/Arsenal FC via Getty Images) Willian also opened up on swapping west London for north London last summer, a decision that wasn't easy to make as he didn't necessarily push to leave Chelsea. "It was difficult to make that decision, it wasn’t easy. Because, as you said, the rivalry between the two clubs is very big. It wasn’t an easy decision to leave Chelsea for Arsenal," Willian added. "It was well thought out, a thoughtful decision, talking to my wife and even the agent many times. They convinced me to go there that it’d be a really cool project, that it’d be really good for me to be able to go there. "That I’d be a very important player in the squad. That they wanted to change the philosophy of the club, to make it possible for Arsenal to fight again in the Premier League, to play in the Champions League again. But it really wasn’t easy to make that decision, it had to be well thought out. "Look, I think some fans asked this question. But the majority understood because I didn’t leave the club with a fight, I left the doors open. "Everyone knew the conditions, I really wanted to stay. We ended up not finding an agreement, I ended up asking for three years, Chelsea wanted to give two, and everyone knows this story. That’s why I ended up leaving."
David Luiz

#PL Stories- #DavidLuiz insists #Willian will bring joy to Arsenal fans #ArsenalFC

David Luiz has predicted that Willian will bring joy to the Arsenal supporters and is confident that his compatriot can be a success at the club. Willian joined the Gunners on a free transfer from Chelsea, making the move 12 months after Luiz also crossed the divide, but has struggled to make an impact and has been widely criticised. Luiz endured similar struggles at Arsenal but has shared the advice that he has given his Brazilian teammate, backing the winger to become an important asset. “The person Willian, few people know him. But those who know, can’t not say that they love him. Because everyone loves him as a person”, David Luiz told ESPN Brasil. Video Loading Video Unavailable Click to play Tap to play The video will auto-play soon8Cancel “The player Willian everyone knows. And everyone knows Willian’s potential. And he doesn’t have to prove anything to anyone after so many years at the high level. And he’s a moment which it’s not so pleasant at the individual level because things are not happening. "But he’s an experienced, intelligent guy, who knows what he should know, what he must do every day. You don’t see Willian murmuring to train, you don’t see Willian not training. He’s always dedicated, he’s looking for the best, to improve, to grow. You don’t see Willian with an ugly face on the bench. All those things. “So he’s a guy who will go through this, he will go through this moment and he’ll still bring a lot of joy to Arsenal, to this club. Because there’s this turbulence, just as I had in the first months. I’s not easy, you change clubs, from one rival to another, you have all the cannons facing you. Supporters on the other side, who cheered against you, are like, ‘I’m not going to like this guy who came from the other side’. “You end up feeling, in a way, just a little until you adapt. My first months weren’t easy, and that’s what I try to pass on to Willian. ‘Calm down, things will work out, things will happen. Just keep working because you’re you, there’s no way to change. "You’re a great person and you’re a great player. Calm down. Things are going to happen’. That’s what we try. Everyone already loves Willian here, so I know that things will happen in the best possible way soon.”

#PremierLeagueStories – #MikelArteta talks about controversy of #Willian travelling to Dubai during international break #AFC

Mikel Arteta has provided an update on how Arsenal plan to deal with the fallout from Willian’s trip to Dubai. The 32-year-old was not called up by Brazil over the international break and travelled to Dubai, with the club reportedly unaware of the trip. Arsenal were only alerted to it after a picture emerged of the Brazilian standing alongside Nusret Gokce - more commonly known as‘ Salt Bae’ - at his Nusr-Et restaurant in Abu Dhabi. UK law dictates that people who travel to Dubai are not required to self-isolate, but Willian will have to return a negative test for COVID-19 before he is able to train again. Arsenal have also launched an internal enquiry into the issue. While neither the player nor the club have made any public statement on the matter, Mikel Arteta was insistent that it would be dealt with in house. That's been dealt with, explained and we move on.” Arteta did reveal that the pair had spoken and said that the situation is something he wants to be able to move on from quickly. “I had a conversation with him and explained what I was expecting,” he said. “There are a lot of personal factors at the moment from our side we need to be their shoes. Sometimes they're making decisions based on the needs, different moments or what people are expecting from them. “Whether they're right or wrong that's something we have to discuss but it's been dealt in the right way and let's move on.” If he is able to play on Sunday, Willian will be hoping to kickstart his season. The Brazilian has failed to score or assist since the opening day of the Premier League and has largely underwhelmed since his switch from Chelsea. Former Arsenal player Paul Merson claimed the 32-year-old looks 'lost' since the move, and called on Arteta to get more from him.
