Willian’s contract expires at the conclusion of the season and he is on course to bring an end to his seven years in the capital. Agreeing on new terms has so far proved to be problematic given the fact he turns 32 in August and the Blues have a contract policy in place where they only offer players over the age of 30 a one-year deal. Amid talk of a move across London to join either Arsenal or Tottenham, Frank Lampard opened up on the current situation regarding the attacker and said that he was still hopeful that he can get a deal in place where the Brazilian will remain at the club.

Frank Lampard said “I haven’t given up hope on it, The club is still in discussions with him. We want him to stay at the club. But I also appreciate the fact that this contract for Willian is a big deal for him because of his age and where he’s at. I’ve been there before myself and I respect that. But the way he’s playing at the minute shows his worth to the squad and the group and it’s something that I hope we can get to. Whatever way with Willian he’s been a great servant to the club and if we can get it I will be happy. If not I will certainly wish him well because I’ve got a lot of time for him as a player. In the short-term we can see what he’s doing for us. It’s ongoing.”
