#PLStories – Sean Dyche confident that Burnley squad is strong enough to survive in Premier League #BurnleyFC

BURNLEY boss Sean Dyche believes his squad has what it takes to bounce back from their poor start to the Premier League campaign. Dyche’s men find themselves in the drop zone after picking up three points from their opening seven fixtures. The Clarets brought in several fresh faces over the summer including Ivory Coast winger Maxwel Cornet from Lyon. And Dyche insists the squad is better equipped to handle the challenges of the top-flight this season. “I look at the squad, it’s a strong squad,” said the Burnley boss. “We’ve added players who can affect that. We need them fit obviously. “I think it’s a strong squad and I believe absolutely 100 percent in the players we’ve got. The performances are about a level of consistency. “We’ve ironed out a few things but I didn’t think (Norwich) threatened us too much on that side of things but we’ve got to add quality going into their box. “There were a lot of good signs from the defensive side of things.” Summer signing Nathan Collins made Premier League debut over the weekend in place of the injured Ben Mee. Dyche was pleased with the young defender's performance and is hopeful the club’s transfer business will pay off in the coming weeks and months. “I think we limited them to very little,” he added. “I’m pleased for (Collins) and I’m pleased for that unit. “We’ve just got to affect it at both ends, affect the attacking side of things, they’re the details we need to work on. “Maxwel has shown strong signs of affecting things and that will be interesting when we can get him back fully fit. There’s more to come.” The Clarets are back in action on Saturday, October 16 when they head to the Etihad to take on Manchester City (KO 3pm).

#PLStories – #ThomasTuchel reveals personality of #RalphHasenhuttl as a funny person #ChelseaFC #SaintsFC

CHELSEA boss Thomas Tuchel is looking forward to meeting up with "very funny guy" Ralph Hasenhuttl when Saints visit Stamford Bridge tomorrow. The pair previously worked in the Bundesliga at the same time when Hasenhuttl's Leipzig faced off against Tuchel's Borussia Dortmund. Speaking to the Daily Echo last week, Hasenhuttl revealed he also watched the Ryder Cup in Paris with Tuchel in 2018, when the now-Chelsea boss was in charge of PSG. Asked about his relationship with Hasenhuttl, Tuchel said: "We meet each other now regularly because we played against each other in the Bundesliga and now here and we met once in Paris for some days, we meet of course in coaches’ meetings. "He’s a very friendly, very nice guy, very humble, very entertaining also, a very funny guy. "The teams he trains have always the same philosophy. It’s high intensity, it’s very aggressive, it’s about ball recoveries and this is on a very high level. "They have a very fast team, a very aggressive team, they had good results against both Manchester teams, so this is what we are expecting, a good team with a good coach and a nice guy, but that does not count for 90 minutes." Tuchel added: "We have developed some ideas and some solutions of course to deal with this high pressure. In general you need to be absolutely aware of it. "You don’t have time to think when you’re on the ball, we need to anticipate situations, we need to be very good in the timing and distance of our passing, if we want to escape high pressure in our own half. "It can also be a possibility to use long balls to escape high pressing, but then you need to have a good position before. The most important thing is that we are aware and that we don’t judge teams by their name or their ranking or their previous results, but we talk about what we see and their behaviour and we need to be aware of an aggressive and an intense team. "We want to also have the answer to the pressing from Southampton with counter-pressing and to give them a taste of their own medicine, also because it is a part of our game."
Tino Livramento

#PLStories – #ThomasTuchel reveals Chelsea tried hard to keep #TinoLivramento before transfer to Southampton #ChelseaFC #SaintsFC

THOMAS Tuchel insists Chelsea did "everything" to try and keep Tino Livramento at the club this summer. The highly-rated academy product opted to leave his boyhood club to join Saints, in a deal reportedly worth an initial £5million. Teenager Livramento, who never made a senior appearance at Chelsea, has proven to be a revelation at Saints, starting every Premier League match so far. He looks set to face his former club tomorrow, when Saints head to Stamford Bridge. Discussing Livramento, Blues boss Tuchel said: "He was highly rated, we did everything to keep him here, to show him his future and his possibilities to compete also for a position in our team. He decided to go, that’s his decision, sometimes you have to accept it, there are no hard feelings. "He was of course competing with Reece James and Azpi (Cesar Azpilicueta) in the right-wing-back position. I think it was an ideal position for him to fight and the group is not too big so there was a big chance also to make it all the way. "If Tino decided to go, it’s fair enough, he does very well, we wish him all the best. Of course we saw the potential, he decided to go another way and fight for his place in Southampton and that’s how the business is."

#PLStories- #GrahamPotter confirms #YvesBissouma and #TariqLamptey in squad for Crystal Palace match #BHAFC

Graham Potter has confirmed that Yves Bissouma will be in the matchday squad on Monday night match versus Crystal Palace. The Malian midfielder sustained a knee injury against Leicester but was “desperate” to continue, which he did with the blessing of Albion’s medical staff. Bissouma was withdrawn with ten minutes to go in place of Enock Mwepu as a precaution. Bissouma will be back in the squad on Monday. Albion boss Potter hinted before the Swansea match that he was hopeful that Bissouma would be involved against Palace and confirmed that the situation is the same today. He said: “Probably the same [situation] but we will see how he is and hopefully he can train on Saturday.” Meanwhile, Potter said that Pascal Gross and Tariq Lamptey will be back in the squad for Palace on Monday, but will be assessed over the weekend. Tariq Lamptey will also be in the squad on Monday. Seagulls’ boss said on Lamptey: “We’re delighted with his 45 minutes against Swansea last night and we’re delighted that he came through that well. He looked good and strong, but it’s another step for him [to be starting a PL game]. Potter added that Gross’ situation is different to Tariq Lamptey but said he came through last night with no problem. He said: “He’s somebody we will monitor over the next couple of days and then we will see how he is on Saturday and then work out what his involvement will be, but he will be back in the squad [for Palace]. Gross' free kick that smashed the bar. Potter said he will be in the squad for Monday too. Potter confirmed that Webster will not be back for Monday, with his return looking more likely after the international break. While Alexis MacAllister will train on Saturday after a “sore” knee to the back last night, and Mwepu will be given time to rest to see how his groin is.

#PLStories – #RalphHasenhuttl reveals his admiration for new signing #Lyanco #SaintsFC

RALPH Hasenhuttl eases early expectations on big character and “long-term project” Lyanco, and insists: “He will definitely make a lot of games with us, a good signing for the future.” The 24-year-old Brazilian centre-back arrived from Italian Serie A side Torino towards the end of the summer transfer window, in place of Jannik Vestergaard, but don’t necessarily expect to see him in immediate action. He has already looked to make himself a fan favourite with regular social media posts of him enjoying life at his new club, although supporters will want to see his passion matched by on-pitch performances. Saints manager Hasenhuttl has so far opted for Jack Stephens and Mohammed Salisu as his two centre-back positions, while Jan Bednarek has been reduced to an appearance from the substitutes bench. But he is willing to learn and all the rest he has to learn, he will. Very good character and yeah, big personality and very happy to have him here. “Ori is at the moment our translator, my Italian is not that good but I try to speak with him, especially in a football business there is some words I don’t know. preparative 🙏🏼🦍❤️🤍 @SouthamptonFC pic.twitter.com/AFg8hLcymF — Lyanco Vojnovic (@Lyanco) September 8, 2021 “But yeah he will learn English and he will definitely make a lot of games with us, a good signing for the future.” Lyanco made 23 appearances in Italy’s top-flight last season, with his last match coming in a 0-7 demolition at home to AC Milan in May. He has experience playing in a central-defensive trio at Torino and after Hasenhuttl switched to a similar shape during the Manchester United draw, perhaps when the Austrian boss next opts to move to that formation will be when Lyanco gets some action in a Saints shirt.

#PLStories – Southampton manager #RalphHasenhuttl reveals what needs to change to improve the points tally #SaintsFC

SAINTS have picked up two points from their first three fixtures of the 2021-22 Premier League campaign, but manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has seen more positives insisting: “The way we played or we created chances and scored goals was good, I think.” The Austrian manager has previewed Saturday’s clash with David Moyes’ West Ham, who, after qualifying for the Europa League last season, are now second in the table with seven points from three. The Hammers secured that qualification and defeated Saints 3-0 on the final day of last season, with Pablo Fornals hitting a brace. Michail Antonio, who was on loan at Saints between 2009-2010, has stolen the show with four goals and a flurry of forward action already this campaign as Moyes’ rejuvenated outfit cannot be stopped by opposition defences. Read more Ralph Hasenhuttl opens on strict transfer policy under Gao Hasenhuttl: Theo Walcott and Stuart Armstrong out West Ham Ralph Hasenhuttl concerned amid international quarantines They've already put ten goals away this season, but have not kept a clean sheet themselves either. Speaking ahead of the clash, Hasenhuttl said: “Yeah, I spoke last season about that (Moyes’ West Ham turnaround). We lost against them in the final game. “We know the strength they have, they have very good individual qualities in the team but also a clear and very efficient way of playing football – this is the reason why they’re so successful.” Striker Michail Antonio is one of many stars in the Hammers side who is bang-in-form (Pic: PA) On the other hand, Saints were handed a tough start to the league season on paper and it has proven to be so, managing a draw with Manchester United and rescuing another with a last-minute penalty at Newcastle. Only Adam Armstrong, Moi Elyounoussi and James Ward-Prowse have got on the scoresheet for Saints so far this season – after Che Adams’ strike was ruled to be a Fred own goal – and someone will need to step into the breech and provide regular strikes. Having conceded six in three also, Hasenhuttl reflected on his team’s performances, saying: “The way we played or we created chances and scored goals was good, I think. Our game with the ball was very good. “Our game against the ball also, but the amount of goals we conceded in the first three games was above the average we try to have, so far. “And this is what we have to change, this is a tricky topic for the last weeks – it’s getting more and more difficult in the Premier League to have clean sheets, you see it every weekend. James Ward-Prowse's last gasp spot-kick secured a point at Newcastle (Pic: PA) “Teams are getting stronger and it’s not so easy. A few chances are enough for the opponent to score and this is what makes it so difficult but, especially in the last game, we normally should’ve won it and we had the bigger chances. “Conceding in the end a goal, what is absolutely to defend. And this is what we have to discuss.” Saints vs West Ham kicks off at 3pm on Saturday 11 September, at St Mary’s – in the first domestic action since deadline day and the international break.

#PLStories- Brighton’s #MoisesCaicedo joins Beerschot on loan as #Graham Potter provides insight #BHAFC

Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo has joined Belgian top-flight side Beerschot on a season-long loan, subject to international clearance. The 19-year-old joined Albion from Independiente del Valle in February. He then went on to make three appearances for the U23s last season. Caicedo was then handed his senior debut in the Seagulls 2-0 win over Cardifff last week, where he set-up Andi Zeqiri for their second goal. Albion head coach Graham Potter said:  “This loan will gives Moises the chance to play regularly, something we believe will be of huge benefit to him at this stage in his career. “As with all our players heading out on loan, we will be keeping a close eye on how he progresses this season and we wish Moises all the best for the season ahead in Belgium.”

Percy Tau has agreed a permanent move to Egyptian club Al Ahly on undisclosed terms. The transfer will be formally concluded once the transfer window reopens in Egypt and is also subject to international clearance. Albion head coach Graham Potter said: “I have really enjoyed working with Percy. He is very professional and extremely popular with the rest of the squad, but at this stage of his career he wants to be playing regularly and we fully understand that. “This move gives him the opportunity to do that and he is joining one of Africa’s top clubs. On behalf of everyone at the club I wish him well for the future.”
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

#PLStories- #OleGunnarSolskjaer thinks Saints’ goal was a foul and should have been chalked off #MUFC

OLE Gunnar Solskjaer claimed Saints’ opener should have been ruled out for a foul during the press, saying: “We can’t go from one extreme from volleyball or basketball last year to rugby now.” Jack Stephens stole the ball off United’s Portuguese dynamo Bruno Fernandes with a forceful challenge that then saw Moussa Djenepo, Adam Armstrong and Che Adams link up for the opener. Although Mason Greenwood would eventually peg back the home side and see the points shared evenly, the Norwegian boss insists he was left disappointed by the lack of decision and his side’s reaction. Speaking after the match, he said: ”We should do better, if you don’t get a foul you should make sure you block the shots, put your body on the line and make sure they don’t get a strike on target. Read more Greenwood grabs leveller for United as Saints take a point Ralph Hasenhuttl pleased with changed Southampton formation Southampton FC to give fans refunds after ticket and turnstile issues “That being said it’s a foul, he’s gone straight though his hip with his own hip and his arm across him. “I’m a bit, not worried, but we have to look at it and we can’t go from one extreme from volleyball or basketball last year to rugby now. “I like the lenient way it’s more men’s football but that is a clear foul. “That being said, early on with the fans as well it gets the crowd going when you fly into tackles and that was part of the thinking early on.” The refereeing in the Premier League so far this season has allowed for more leniency and a better flowing game, while also introducing new rules to keep refs on the lookout for players ‘buying’ fouls. As such, you won’t see as many fouls awarded when a player has left a deliberate trailing leg, for example. Saints’ boss Ralph Hasenhuttl thinks it goes both ways though, saying: “I actually seen a lot of other things where we didn’t get given a foul so if you want to hang it up on this one situation I don’t see this. “I was always fan of let things run and yeah, this is the Premier League. “It’s not for me to say, but in this moment we have been the team getting the benefit for an aggressive attack. Because we play an active passing style I am always happy when not every single touch is immediately a foul. “This is what the Premier League was famous for, for a long time.”

#PLStories- Nottingham Forest cancel Burnley friendly amid Covid-19 cases #BURNLEYFC #NFFC

Burnley’s upcoming friendly against Nottingham Forest has been called off due to a 'small number' of positive Covid-19 tests in the Forest squad. The game - which was meant to take place at the City Ground on Saturday afternoon - has been cancelled as a precautionary measure to protect players and staff at both clubs. The Clarets are now looking for a different opponent for Saturday as they prepare for the new Premier League season. “The situation is unchanged since yesterday when we had to cancel the Villa friendly with some players having to self-isolate,” said Forest boss Chris Hughton. “Therefore, it is the right decision to cancel the fixture in the interests of players and staff from both clubs and our own supporters. “It is disappointing that we have not been able to get a run-out against Premier League opposition but Sean Dyche and Burnley Football Club have been very understanding for which I am grateful." Burnley will wrap up their pre-season preparations against La Liga side Cadiz at Turf Moor on Saturday, August 7. The Clarets kick-off their sixth successive top-flight campaign with a home fixture against Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday, August 14.

#PLStories- Burnley goalkeeper #BaileyPeacockFarrell signs season-long deal at Sheffield Wednesday #BURNLEYFC #SHWFC

Burnley goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell has signed a season-long loan deal with League One side Sheffield Wednesday. The Northern Ireland will spend the 2021/22 campaign at Hillsborough for the chance to get regular first-team football under his belt. Peacock-Farrell signed from Leeds United two years ago and made his first appearances for the club last season, starting eight games in all competitions, including four in the Premier League, deputising for Nick Pope. With Pope on his way back to full fitness and free agent Wayne Hennessey brought in as competition earlier this month, Sean Dyche has decided to grant Wednesday’s request to take Peacock-Farrell on loan, with Will Norris also part of the club’s goalkeeping ranks. There had been interest from Championship clubs in the ‘keeper who has won 23 caps for Northern Ireland. He is the second Burnley goalkeeper to leave on loan in this window, following Lukas Jensen in making a temporary switch, after he signed for League Two side Carlisle United. Goalkeeping coach Billy Mercer, formerly of the Owls, said: “It’s a great opportunity for him to go and play a lot of games at probably the biggest club in that league who be looking to challenge for promotion. “Having brought Wayne in to complement the group we already had we have plenty of cover, so we felt it was the right club at the right time for him to go and play some games. “Hopefully he will get as many games as possible and come back and be pushing for the No.1 spot.”

#PLStories- Burnley boss #SeanDyche on transfers and Oldham victory #BURNLEYFC

SEAN Dyche continues to scour the transfer market as he looks for strength in depth ahead of another Premier League campaign. After securing a 2-0 win at League Two Oldham Athletic in what was Burnley’s first friendly in front of fans, the Clarets boss noted: "We are probably one or two short” when it comes to squad numbers. Dyche has been able to add defender Nathan Collins on a four-year deal from Stoke City for a reported £12million, as well as goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey on a free transfer from Crystal Palace. But with only two senior wingers, and ongoing speculation about Dwight McNeil’s future, Burnley are light in wide areas, while further defensive and attacking options would be beneficial. Dyche has goalkeeper Nick Pope and long-serving defender Kevin Long to come back from injury, while Chris Wood is competing with the New Zealand football team at the Tokyo Olympics, and Matej Vydra comes back into the fold after his involvement in Euro 2020 with Czech Republic. But of his current crop, Dyche was satisfied with the performance against Keith Curle’s Latics. “They had 90 minutes on Tuesday at the training ground and a heavy couple of days, so I thought there might be a little bit of lethargy which I thought in the first half there was - more mentally as well,” said the Burnley boss. “The team that came on second half, there was a lot of sharpness to it and they looked clear-minded and overall it was a good end to a good week.” Jay Rodriguez opened the scoring with his third goal in two friendlies after coming on at half-time, before youngster Lewis Richardson scored his first senior goal for the club a minute later. “He’s a young talent, so we’ll how he goes. He’s maturing and getting more used to it,” Dyche said. “He had moments last season when he was in amongst us. “I know we were stretched with injuries but we know he’s in the background, working hard at his game and he’s done well this pre-season, working hard amongst the young players in the main first team group. “These are good games for the young lads as well, mixing with the first team lads.” It was not Burnley’s first friendly of the summer, but the first chance for fans to be able to watch. Indeed, it was a first away day since February 2020. And that was another positive for Dyche. “It was terrific. I think we all want that,” he said. “To see our own fans away from home in a pre-season game has got to be a good sign. We hope so, anyway, and it was great to see the fans there.”
