Russell Martin, Southampton’s manager, spoke about Yukinari Sugawara’s performance and adaptation since joining the team. Despite dealing with a few challenges, Sugawara has shown great resilience.
Russell Martin said “He did not have his family here for the first couple of months as well and the way that he just dealt with that was impressive. I think he’s been fantastic.”
Martin discussed Sugawara’s recent struggles with game time due to an injury and international commitments with Japan, which have affected his energy levels. He also praised Sugawara’s impactful performance when he came off the bench against Everton.
Russell Martin said “The only thing that sort of disrupted his season a little bit was he took a knock against Leicester just after the international break. He’s ready for the Premier League and he’s done great for us. He’s been so unlucky not to start but he came on and made a big impact (against Everton), so now he needs to continue doing that.”
