Just days after Manchester United’s Dennis Irwin openly declared that they would love to bring Nottingham Forest’s Roy Keane to the club, it seemed that Tottenham Hotspur was ready to splash the cash to bring the Irishman to North London. Terry Venables was ready to splash out £3 million to bring the 21-year-old Cork ace to White Hart Lane but insisted that Spurs would only make a move if and when Nottingham Forest were relegated.
Keane had an escape clause in his contract for such eventuality but Spurs would face stiff competition from Manchester United and Blackburn Rovers and some of the big Italian Serie A clubs as well.
