The FA Executives were set to decide later that week whether to hold a full-scale investigation into the transfer of goalkeeper Mark Bosnich to Aston Villa. And although at that point of time it did not look like that even if Villa were found guilty in any capacity they would face a points penalty.
But the FA had not ruled out any possibility as yet. FA chief executive Graham Kelly had already heard details of the players’ union allegations directed at deals made with Aston Villa and Notts county by former player Graham Smith who was an agent of many players who had moved on a free transfer that window.
