Manchester United striker Eric Cantona was fined £1000 after being found guilty by the FA of spitting at Leeds supporters following two sides match at Elland Road a month earlier. A disciplinary commission also warned the Frenchman about his future conduct after the incident, which happened when Cantona was heading towards the dressing rooms after the 0-0 draw.
Cantona did not appear in person at FA headquarters and the matter was dealt with through correspondence. Cantona moved from Leeds to Manchester United for £1.2 million in December, just a few months after helping Leeds to secure the championship.
FA Spokesperson said “Having given consideration to the matter, the commission is satisfied that he is guilty of misconduct. The commission also did take into consideration that he was subject to provocation prior to the incident”
