Tottenham players took to social media in their masses on Monday to wave goodbye to Erik Lamela. The Argentine’s move to Sevilla was confirmed as part of the deal that saw Bryan Gil become a Spurs player. His move to Spain brings to an end an eight-year spell for the 29-year-old in north London in which whilst having not quite managed to hit the heights expected of him, he still managed to achieve a cult status. Lamela departs having made 255 appearances for Spurs, scoring 37 goals. Once his move to Spain was confirmed, the Argentine took to Instagram to issue an emotional goodbye statement.
Erik Lamela said: “Spurs fans … What can I say? It was a very long journey together, maybe more than I thought, but this club has my heart. I feel the shirt the way you fans feel it. Many good memories over the years and I thank my teammates for these years together. I thank the people who work at the club who have always treated me excellently. I thank the fans for cheering me on in every game, I will miss you all . I will carry this club with me forever.”
A number of the current Spurs squad members and now Lamela’s former teammates replied with their goodbyes and well-wishes. Here is a selection of the best:
Sergio Reguilon said: “We will miss you brother.”
Eric Dier said: “Good luck brother!
Giovani Locelso said: “All the best friend!! You will be missed”
Lucas Moura said: “I’m going to miss you, brother. All the success in the world for you. May god bless you in this new challenge.”
