Graeme Souness was set to cast sentiment aside to Liverpool strived for another step towards Premier League survival. The Reds’ boss was making his first return as a manager to the tee side club knowing that a win for his team will plunge his former club deeper into relegation trouble.
But he stressed that the upcoming clash was clearly a case of looking after number one.

Graeme Souness said “I’ve not been back there many times as a player. I can recall only two occasions. It is always special going back to aplace where you played and I’ve got some great memories of Middlesborough. I’ve got a soft spot for them no doubt nut we are desperate for points. It is a club that I have a lot affection for but there is no room for sentiments.”

Souness played at Ayresome Park before moving to Anfield as a player in 1977/78 season and hoped that both of those clubs remained in the top flight in the upcoming season.
