Former United frontman Danny Welbeck has claimed Ben White is thoroughly deserving of his place in the England squad amid interest from Manchester United. White’s Brighton teammate and former United forward Welbeck has claimed that White is an excellent player ahead of England’s opener against Croatia on Sunday.
Danny Welbeck said: “Ben has got so much ability. For a defender his range of passing is fantastic. Physically he’s so strong, he’s fast, there’s countless things I can say about him on the pitch. Off the pitch he’s so laid back, he’s always preparing himself well. I can see why Gareth Southgate has called him up and I am so happy for him to get that recognition he deserves. He’s had a really good season. It’s not easy for an attacker coming up against him and this is only the start of what we can expect from Ben. Now he needs to keep his head down and keep working hard and know that if he can get to this stage at this age, he can go a lot further with hard work.”
White made his international debut in last week’s 1-0 defeat of Austria at the Riverside Stadium, making a crucial goal-line clearance in the closing stages to help secure a clean sheet for the Three Lions.
