Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish has ‘all eyes on next week’ after another starring performance for England. Grealish was England’s best player in the 1-0 win against Romania on Sunday, capping off a brilliant week for the Villa playmaker. The 25-year-old strengthened his claim to start the Euro 2020 opener against Croatia at Wembley after being named man-of-the-match.
Jack Grealish tweeted: “Another W, all eyes on next week”.
England boss Gareth Southgate was asked about Grealish’s chances of starting the opening group game when speaking to ITV after the match.
Gareth Southgate said: “We have a lot of competition in those areas of the field and he has had an important contribution to win the penalty. He is in the frame with several others.”
Mason Mount is likely to be Grealish’s biggest challenger if the Villa star is preferred in a central role while competition out wide comes from the likes of Marcus Rashford, Phil Foden, Raheem Sterling, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka. Grealish earned widespread plaudits following his introduction to England duty earlier this season – he made his debut against Denmark in September before going on to impress against Wales, Ireland, Belgium and Iceland.
