Arsenal striker Ian Wright revealed the real reason he was determined to clean up his act – his long-standing girlfriend Debbie. The pair were planning to get married later that year but first Wright had pledged to stay out of trouble on the football pitch. Wright had just served a three-match ban after TV cameras caught him throwing a punch at Tottenham’s David Howells.
Ian Wright said “She told me off so hard for getting myself into trouble. She told me it was my fault. I tell you, man, I’d rather face the three men at the FA than have to face Debbie in that mood again.”
