Howard Kendall wanted Gary Ablett to go out at Hillsborough and prove that the decision to sell Martin Keown to Arsenal was not just a sound business deal but an astute football decision.
Howard Kendall said “Gary has proved in the past that he can be an outstanding partner to Dave Watson. They showed that in the early part of the season when Martin was injured.” I’m looking for them to develop that partnership again.”
Kendall had named new arrival Kenny Sansom was in the side for the clash with in-form Sheffield Wednesday, he said: “I’m confident he will do a good job.”
