Alan Shearer, Rovers and England’s hotshot striker confirmed his wellbeing with a stunning hat trick. He has now scored eight goals in six starts since a nine-month absence following the surgery. His hat trick though was only enough for Blackburn to take a point away from Elland road in a thrilling 3-3 draw.

He struck midway through the first half, poached another a minute after the half time and then hit the third. Gary Mcallister was the Leeds star, he scored from the spot, swung over a corner to gift John Newsome a goal and had a shot deflected in off Tim Sherwood.

Kenny Dalglish said ‘‘ Everything Alan Shearer had before is there – and more’’
