Former Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has revealed that he enjoyed the ‘hatred’ between Chelsea and Tottenham when he played for the Blues. The two clubs met on Sunday in an important clash at the top of the Premier League, with both sides able to go top of the table with victory but the match ended in a goal less draw. Hasselbaink scored 11 goals in 19 games against Spurs during his time in the Premier League and spoke of the special atmosphere he would experience when playing against them for Chelsea.
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink said “It’s mad, When you play these type of matches, the dressing rooms, the fans, when you come onto the pitch – you just feel that hatred, that not liking each other. Those are the matches you wanna play. This is the match for Chelsea – this is really the one that the fans look to and the one they really wanna win. I actually don’t know why with the history, but I felt it. I felt it was so important. I enjoyed it a little bit, yeah. Good old days. The thing is, sometimes, you play against clubs where you’re always going to do well against and Spurs was one for me. I don’t know why, but I always did well against Spurs. As a footballer, you always have those teams and Spurs was one of them.”
