In what was a huge double blow for Arsenal, Ian Wright, their main striker was handed a three-match ban and George Graham, their manager was fined £500. The news came on the back of a year where Arsenal’s disciplinary record was alarming. Ian Wright’s punishment was for assaulting a Tottenham Player whereas Graham was punished for verbally abusing the referee.
George Graham said that he continued to believe that media and pundits treated his team unfairly and they were criticized for something that was blown out of proportion. But 37 bookings against the club’s name in just 20 league matches that year showed a different picture.
