Manchester City had agreed to pay £600000 for Rosenborg’s Norweigian international Kare Ingebrigsten. The free-scoring midfielder who had already been on a trial at Maine Road was expected to join in a fortnight. City had originally hesitated about buying him but his parent club was not willing to send him on a loan so they decided to enter the negotiations to buy him outright. Manager Peter Reid has started the talks with Rosenborg.
